Steve had driven down this road so many times in the past, he could have done it now blindfolded. There on the right was his old local. Where he and his friends had spent most of their own collage years. Coming up on the left, his old gym. Many hours of his young adult life spent there. Toning his body into the 6' 3'' muscular bulk it now was. And up ahead, the main campus halls. Where he had spent the first year of his time here...
It made Steve so proud now to be able to say that his only daughter, the pride of his life and apple of his eye had chosen to attend the same university that he himself had gone to. 20 years ago. So much had happened since those days he thought to himself as nostalgia crept up in him for his long lost youth. Marriage and a child obviously, although his wife had died many many years earlier when their child was but that. A child. he would have to accept now that, at the age of 18 and living independently for the first time ever, she had grown up at last, and become a fine young woman.
Since her mother's passing, it had just been the two of them. They had been as close a family as one could possibly get. They had always needed to keep each other company and supported each other of course, with only each other around. This was different now though. This university was so far away from the home they had both occupied, and they were both kept so busy by studies and careers respectively, that this was the longest time they had spent apart and the first time they would have seen each other in almost a year!
Steve knew of course that a father and daughter should not try to be so close. That a parent should allow their child to go free and live their own life. However, Steve could not help but feel resentful of that view. He was here now to take her home with him as her first year had come to an end, and the time they would have together over the break would not be wasted. They would bond over their time apart as only a child can with her father.
Checking the building name ahead he realized he had arrived outside her dorm. He parked the car and got out to wait for her...
