A Gallery: Delights & Splendors of Cascadia

This lighthouse - Dungeness - is located on the longest spit in North America. It juts nearly 5 miles into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and was the first light house on the West coast if memory serves.
I along with a group of 5 others spent a week volunteering as light house keepers a number of years ago here - we were docents for anyone who walked all the way out to the end of the spit and wanted to go to the top of the light house, kept the property tidy (yes - I polished the brass railing all the way to the top of the light), and various projects as assigned for the week.
It was a lovely week. Quiet and calm. Beautiful - a nature reserve. Stars so bright. And a historic home and light to be privileged to occupy briefly.

Interestingly, Dungeness in the UK is a nature reserve too. Will this mimicking never end :D:eek:?

“Our hearts are not pure:
our hearts are filled with need
and greed as much as with love and grace,
and we wrestle with our hearts all the time.
The wrestling is who we are.
How we wrestle is who we are.
What we want to be is never what we are.
Not yet. Maybe that's why we have these
relentless engines in our chests, driving us forward
toward what we might be."
