By the Shore
(for Benjamin Britten, December 4, 1976)

Waves are for counting,
as once before a time
an ebb and flow, a come and go
another and another day,
as waters rummage
rib to rib the place between
his mulchy bones; till
yes or no in a breath
will maybe come? if some
or other, or other or now
will wake or break
most any old thing, till
in the beginning the poem
is and done.

2010 Allan Brown

It's as though there is a prehistoric beast emerging from the sand ! It's amazing how the angle of a photo can make a picture convey a different image to that which you would see just walking by something.

one of my all time favorite beaches!
