A Pirates Life for Me

My dad's a Marine Corps vet from Vietnam. I think I have a small privilege to poke fun at the other branches. ;)

Anyways, enough about the military. How have you been, Ultimate? Other than dealing with your ex?

*blinks* just cause your dad served doesn't mean you can talk my friend...

Otherwise I am fine, I am hoping that everything works out great with him, if not we can go back to being friends because that's all we've been for like a million years...

But on all other fronts I am tired... I work tomorrow so I may or may not be on for much longer... how about you?

I'm doing alright, just rereading the Harry Potter series and realizing just how different the books are from the movies. Man, did Hollywood leave out a lot. Oh well.

I don't work, oddly enough, so I have a lot of time to myself. In fact, I'll be online for another two hours, before I head to bed.

How's the weather up there in Sin City? We just had a massive rain storm blow through earlier today. No idea how much water it dumped, but it was impressive. Wind was blowing the rain around like dust, the various large trees swaying like mad, threatening to topple. Man, did we need it.

Um... it just got done raining here so you might be getting some more... otherwise it's still fucking humid... I miss the dry heat. But the storm that came through last night was great.... I was out in my pool and just kind of danced around... it was very primal.. I loved it! Inspiring for me really.

Well, good for you. I'm sorry that I missed the rain while I was in Vegas. Left just hours before the National Weather Service in Vegas issued a severe thunderstorm warning using the Emergency Broadcast System. Never heard that thing used other than for tests.

Anyways, lets up that the storm that just left you will still have some left for us down here. Storms usually dry up before they reach the valley down here, what with the mountains surrounding us, the "heat bubble," and all that other stuff that prevents good storms from doing good.

yeah... our service announcements are rarely tests... usually flash flood warnings lol!

Yeah, we get flash flood warnings down here too, but I have yet to see one with my own eyes. Besides, most of the warnings are for other counties, not Maricopa, of which metropolitan Phoenix takes up a large amount.

30% humidity is fun.

I have made a bear with Tumble as of last January.

I have respect for all of the armed forces because I admire that they are willing to fight, which I admit I am not. I also have a respect for them based on what I've witnessed. I have retired some where between 50 and 80 American flags, this process involves burning them. I've watched vets just quietly go up to the fire when no one is around and spend a good 10 to 20 minutes reflecting and praying. It helps put things into perspective.

and I finish by saying nice banana wolf.

i was in the army for a short while, till i was ruled unfit for duty due to my back and leg. So i guess im a washout. but nontheless, the only miltary that can be laughed at is the coast guard, but only on occasion. BTW Khan, you sure do seem to have alot in common with blaster, both from phoenix, both 19, both star wars fanatics, both with fathers who were marines in 'nam. both who couldnt picture that character (cris i believe) as a samurai.

boy, it sure is uncanny.

Obviously they are clones then. That is the only explantion.

Hmm, you know, you have a point there, Renegade. You're the first person to notice that. How odd indeed. You know, maybe blaster is a long-lost brother of mine. There are some people out that are so similar that it's frightening.

And about the fathers who were marines in Vietnam, there were a lot of Marines. Did blaster ever say what his father did over there?

i dont recall. My uncle was a marine over at khe sanh.

Ahh, the infamous siege of Khe Sanh, eh? That was one hell of a fight, so I understand. The Marines had to do something that was best suited for the Army, and that was hold their ground against the VC. The Army is meant for holding actions, whereas the Marines take the ground that the Army then has to hold while the Marines go kick more ass. :D

Of course, I don't think the Army could have held on nearly as long as the Marines did. They don't call the Marines Leathernecks and Devil Dogs for nothing. :D

my other uncle was in the army, and my father was in the navy. My grandfather was at pearl harbor, and his father was in WWI. His brother fought in the easter rising, their father fought in some english war, (you know the kind where the officers were english but the cannon fodder were Irish.) all the way back. My ancestor Cathaoir Rua O'Dochartach led a rebellion against the english. my ancestors before him fought vikings and normans, and before that they just fought other irishmen.

Warriors are a family tradition.

They leathernecks because they used to where hats with leather backs over their necks.

Devil dogs are a difrent story I can't recall.

Damn. The only thing I know about my family history is that my grandfather on my mother's side is part Scottish. That's it.

Devil Dogs comes from a Battle during WWI. I believe it was the first battle that the U.S. was involved in. The Marines walked right into a forest filled with machine gun nests that had overlapping fields of fire. But that failed to stop the Marines. They just kept coming, and eventually overwhelmed the Germans. The Germans called them Devil Dogs from that fight.

aye, i cant remember the name of the forest though. Teutoburger perhaps? yes the germans did call them Teufelhunde meaning of course "Devil Dogs"

No, I think it started with a "M." Not sure though.

Beter story then leather necks.

Personaly I would fall back on, "They took tripoli with two people!"

Yeah, a sniper team. That's all they needed to take Tripoli. U.S.M.C. snipers are the best in the world. Don't even bother telling me that the Army has a training school, because I'm well aware of that. Just about every damn sniper program I've seen on TV talks only about the Army training school for snipers. They don't even bother mentioning the Marines. Damn those fools.

ahhh here it is "Belleau Wood." Teutoburger was where the romans lost three legions to Teutonic warriors. got my large forested areas mixed up

The british have some well trained snipers.

On a random note do we even have Snipes in America.

Snipes? Let me think....Nope. Whatever they are, I think they belong to Scotland.
