A Rising Storm

Tim went inside and walked around to see what he needed to secure. He had never been through a big storm, so, he really didn't know what to expect.

He unplugged his television and made sure that his laptop was not plugged in. He was pretty sure that they were going to lose power with the storm, but he didn't want to take any chances that there would be a power surge that would blow the tv and laptop out. Then he took his laptop and placed it on top of the upper kitchen cabinet. It was the highest place in his house. He hoped it kept it safe. He needed it for work.

Then Tim grabbed a cooler. He took some water out of the refrigerator and placed it in the cooler. Then he grabbed 2 bottles of Pinot Grigio that he had in the fridge and put them in the cooler. If they were going to ride out the storm together, they might want more than water.

He carried the cooler up the street to Pam's house. He noticed she had already closed the shutters. He walked up onto the porch and knocked on her door. When she answered, he smiled at her. "I am here to do whatever you need me to do."

Pam ran upstairs to fill the tub with water, just in case. She also gathered a bunch of candles and placed them around the house, along with lighters, in the event they lost power. Grabbing a cooler, she filled it with ice and placed some bottled water inside, making sure there was plenty for her, Tim and Murphy.

The doorbell was ringing, Murphy ran ahead of her and started barking with excitement, she answered the door so see Tim’s handsome, smiling face. “Welcome to my humble abode. Murphy, get down, I know you’re excited to see your new friend, but let him get in the door!”

Pam closed the door behind him and told him he could set the cooler next to hers. “ Actually, would you mind changing a light bulb for me, in the kitchen? Being on the short side, it’s a little hard for me to reach.” She asked with a smile.

Tim placed his cooler next to Pam's and then looked over at her when she asked about the light bulb. "Of course I will change the light bulb for you. I would be happy to."

He walked out into the kitchen and saw which light was burnt out. He unscrewed the bulb and waited for Pam to get him a new one. While he waited, Tim squatted down and rubbed Murphy's ears. The more time he spent with Murphy, the more Tim was convinced he needed to get himself a dog.

Standing back up as Pam came in with a lightbulb, Tim took it from her. As he did so, his fingers brushed her hand and there was a little spark that jumped through his body.

Reaching up, he replaced the lightbulb. "Okay, that task is finished. Is there anything else you need me to do for you?"

Pam watched Tim change the light bulb in the kitchen, she let her eyes take in his wonderful body, he looked to be very fit and athletic. “Tim, I can’t thank you enough. Hmmm, why don’t we take advantage of the electric while we still have it. I tend to make more food than I can eat, I grilled some chicken breasts and green beans last night, would you like to have some dinner with me?”

She watched Tim rub Murphy’s ears, they really seemed to have formed a special bond in a short period of time. When she had handed him the new light bulb, his fingers brushed over her hand, it made her body tingle, she wondered if he felt it too.

“So, what do you say? Would you join me for dinner? I just happen to be a great cook and I would hate to see the food go to waste.”

Tim smiled at Pam. "Sure Pam, I would be happy to join you. It would not be right for me to come to your house, replace a lightbulb and then just leave; especially when you tell me that you are a good cook. I would have to verify that and give my opinion as to the validity of your statement."

He gave Murphy one last good rub between the ears and stood up. "However, if I am joining you for dinner, I insist on helping you. So, tell me Pam, what can I do?" He looked into her eyes. They were mesmerizing. He had to admit that he was really happy to have met her, finally, and to be spending time with her, even if there was a bad storm coming.

He walked to the kitchen sink and washed his hands after petting Murphy. "Okay, how about I set the table, that is, if you are planning on eating at the table." He turned around from the sink and tried to squeeze past Pam as she was walking to the refrigerator; his hand brushing over her hot, round ass.

He was shocked.. .mortified. It was not something he did on purpose. His mind raced; should he apologize or should he just ignore it and move on? He decided to ignore it. Maybe she would think he didn't even realize he had done it.

“That would be lovely.” Smiling back at Tim, she pointed out where all the place settings were. “Well, I had a wonderful teacher, both my grandmother and my mom are amazing cooks.” These days I only cook for myself and it tends to not be the same, you know?” Pam watched as Tim gave Murphy some more love before washing his hands.

“You know….he’s got you wrapped around his paw, you know that? You’ve got a friend for life now.” Pam thought to herself how much she was enjoying Tim’s company, had she not been so wrapped up in her thoughts, she would’ve gone over and introduced herself a long time ago. He had a wonderful smile, it made his eyes crinkle at the edges when he smiled, and what eyes they were, the kind you could get lost in.

On the way to the sink, she could’ve sworn she felt his hand brush her ass, was she overthinking it? Was it an accident? She didn’t want to embarrass him by saying anything and chose to ignore it, but the smile on her face… priceless. “Okay, let’s get down to business.” I hope you brought your appetite.” Pam said with a smile.

He had decided not to say anything or to even acknowledge it. After all, it wasn't like he grabbed her ass. It was just the back of his hand just barely brushing her ass as they passed by. If he said something it would just make it an awkward moment. But, he had to admit to himself that she had a hot, round ass hidden under that sundress.

"Well, I don't know if I brought an appetite, this storm has me a little on edge, but it certainly smells delicious, so, I am sure that I will be able to make a little dent in what you made." He looked at how much food she had prepared. "Wow Pam, I thought it was just us having dinner. I didn't realize everyone from the neighborhood was coming back to eat with us." He laughed a little. "Well, at least if the power goes out, you will have some cooked food for a little while."

He moved over to the table and waited until Pam sat down before taking a seat. During dinner they talked about a variety of different things. Tim shared about taking a risk 5 years back and going out on his own and how that is ultimately what led him to Seaside Cove. "I can work from anywhere, so, why not be at the beach. I love the area, and now, I have met all my neighbors. It only took a year to meet the last one." He winked at Pam. "She is a nice person, though, so it was worth the wait, and, on top of being a nice person, she is one hell of a cook."

As they sat down at the table, Pam laughed at Tim’s comment about the amount of food she had made. “Yeah, I think I went a little overboard, but it’s rare that I have someone here for a meal with me, so I really go to town.” Pam told Tim about her passion for cooking and her dream of opening her own restaurant one day. She listened to him talk about how he came to Seaside Cove.

“Isn’t it wonderful to be able to work from home? Before the pandemic hit, I practically lived at the office, but since I’m the boss lady, I have the luxury of popping in whenever need be. I have a great team, so it all works out.” She felt herself blush when he called her nice and a great cook. “Would you by any chance like a glass of wine?”

"I love working from home. I don't have to worry about putting on a suit and making a commute to an office. Heck, if I don't have a meeting, I don't even need to get dressed. If I do have a meeting, the large majority are video conferences, so, I just put on a shirt and tie and normally I have shorts on."

Tim listened to Pam talk about being the boss lady. "It is great that you have a team that can handle things for you. Sometimes it is hard to find good people. I am lucky, I don't need to have anyone working for me. I have a relationship with my clients and they really only want to talk with me."

When Pam asked him if he wanted a glass of wine, he thought he would be a fool to turn down the offer of a drink from a sexy woman. "I would love to have a glass of wine with you Pam. I have a couple of bottles of Pinot Grigio in the cooler if you like that."

“It’s definitely a wonderful thing to be able to work from home.” That’s wonderful that you have such a great relationship with your clients, it’s hard to find good customer service anymore.” Pam listened to Tim talk more about his ability to work at home. If she wanted to, she could also do that, but she chose not to.

“I do have a great team, Karla, my assistant has been with me for years, I trust her completely. I was maid of honor when she got married, and I’m godmother to her youngest daughter. All of my agents work hard for their money and they do it well.” Pam leaned back in her chair and stretched, the dampness from the approaching storm caused her muscles to ache.

Pam smiled when Tim agreed to have a glass of wine with her. “How did you know Pinot Grigio was my favorite? How about I get the glasses and you pour?”

"Just a lucky guess." Tim got up and grabbed one of the bottles out of his cooler. He had put a corkscrew in the cooler just in case Pam didn't have one. Instead of asking Pam for one, he just used the one he brought. After opening the bottles, he poured the wine into the glasses that Pam placed on the table.

He sat back down at the table. Raising his glass while looking at Pam, "Cheers to a great cook." They clinked glasses and each took a sip of the wine.

Tim raised his glass again. "Here is to a storm that will change direction and go out to sea, leaving us alone." Laughing, he clinked glasses with Pam again before drinking some wine.

Then, Tim got up and started cleaning the plates from the table. He saw Pam start to get up. "No, you stay there. The cook doesn't need to clean. I have this." Tim did the dishes and asked Pam where to put the leftovers. Once he was finished, he moved back to the table and picked up his wine glass. "Thank you for a great dinner Pam."

“ Well, you guessed right, and here I thought you might be a mind reader.” Pam said, bursting into laughter. She went over to the sliding doors that led out into her screened in patio, the sky looked wicked almost, it concerned her and gave her an odd feeling. Pam headed back into the kitchen as Tim handed her a glass of wine.

“Cheers. May we laugh about this in the morning when the meteorologist is all wrong and we end up getting nothing.” She smiled at Tim as they clinked glasses. What wonderful company he is, she thought, in the few short hours she’s known him, she feels like they’ve known each other for years.

Pam started over towards the sink when Tim told her there was no way she was cleaning up. She smiled as she watched him clean up and put the leftovers away. “Tim, will you excuse me for just a moment?” I’m just going to change, I’m getting a bit chilly. I won’t be but a moment.” Going to her room, she pulled out a pale green, long sleeved, fitted tee and matching lounge pants, which showed off her wonderful curves.

Returning to the kitchen, she saw Tim giving some attention to Murphy, it brought a big smile to her face. “Ahhh, now that feels better.” Curling up on the sofa, picking up her wine glass.

Tim watched as Pam returned in an outfit that definitely showed off her sexy body. It took all of his willpower to keep from staring at her and having his eyes slowly wander over her body.

He grabbed his wine and moved over and sat in a chair that was next to the sofa. He did not want to sit on the sofa with Pam because he was afraid of getting too close to her and the way she might interpret his sitting close to her.

"It is going to be an interesting day or two, I think Pam. I sure hope we weather the storm. I would hate to lose my place here just when I am finally starting to like living here." He looked around Pam's house. "And I would feel awful for you after everything you have built in the community and with this lovely home, for you to lose it would be terrible."

Pam could feel Tim’s eyes on her as she walked back into the room, he made it quite obvious he approved of what she was wearing. She watched as he sat on the chair next to the sofa, thinking he must be shy, or perhaps he didn’t like the smell of her perfume. It wasn’t overwhelming, it was light and floral.

Leaning over towards the end table, she grabbed a small framed photo and moved closer to show him. “This is what my home looked like when I found it, it was just a tiny little bungalow that needed some TLC, I fell in love with it and saw potential. My late husband and I completely renovated it, to what it is today.”

She put the photo back on the table and took a sip of wine. “I sure hope so too, but honestly I’m kind of scared about this one. I’d hate for us both to lose our homes, but hey…at least we’re going through this together.” She said with a smile.

"Wow, the two of you did an amazing job with the house Pam. I am really impressed. You should be very proud of what you did." Tim stopped. He wanted to be careful about what he said. He wasn't certain how Pam was handling getting over the loss of her husband' it takes some people longer than others to get through the loss of a loved one.

"Yes, Pam. It is only the two of us here in our little town. we will get through it together. Hopefully, things will be okay after the storm is finished with us."

Tim noticed that Pam's wine glass was almost empty. He stood up and got the bottle. "Here, let me fill you up." He poured wine into her glass, and then topped his off as well.

"And no, don't say it or think it, I am not trying to get you drunk to take advantage of you." He laughed and smiled at Pam.

In his mind, he was thinking how he would like to get his hands on her wonderful body, but this was not the time to be trying to get her in bed. There was a terrible storm coming and he felt that they needed to support each other through that.

“Thank you, Tim, we were extremely proud of the beautiful home we turned that sad little beach bungalow into.” She could see by the look on his face that he didn’t want to push, for fear he would upset her. She placed her hand on his, “Tim, I’m okay, yes I get sad sometimes but I know that Eric wouldn’t want me sad all the time and not live my life. For the most part, I threw myself into my job, that’s why I have a successful business, but…. There is more to life than work. Somewhere along the way, I just seemed to push everything else away.”

She pulled her hand away and gave him a smile to show him she was okay. He topped off their wine glasses and mentioned that in no way was he trying to get her drunk. She couldn’t help but laugh along with him, it’s been awhile since she’s laughed this much.

Pam was happy to have Tim here with her and Murphy, she’d probably never admit it, but something about this storm had her spooked, more than usual. They needed to support each other through the next few days, for it seemed quite ominous out there already, and it was only just the beginning. A thought ran through her mind of how much she would love to explore his wonderful body, she quickly shook that thought from her mind… for now.

They sat quietly for several minutes. The newness of their friendship having reached a point where they were both trying to think of what to say. In a normal situation, with a woman as sexy as Pam, Tim would be flirting and trying to hit on her. This wasn't a normal situation. Pam had invited him into her house asking him to help her get ready for the storm.

"Listen Pam, before I have too much wine, what else is there that you need me to do to get ready for the storm. I came up here to help you and all I have done was change a light bulb. You have made me dinner and now we are drinking together. It doesn't seem that I have been much help."

Murphy, who had been lying at Tim's feet, jumped up and looked at the door. The wind had started to pick up even more, and it sounded like things were starting to blow around outside.

"Oh damn, I didn't take the chairs in off my porch. I am going to need to do that." He stood up from the chair. "Is there anything you need from me before I run back home. I really like those chairs. I hope they are still there."

The quiet in the room was almost deafening, Pam felt awkward sitting there in silence with Tim, it was probably just as awkward for him as well. “As a matter of fact, yes. I do have some Adirondack chairs and a lightweight table to slide into the garage, would you mind helping me slide them in? “Oh, and by the way, you’ve been very helpful just by being here with me tonight, it’s not often I have someone else to talk to, other than my employees.”

Something from outside, startled Murphy. Pam could hear the wind starting to howl, she dreaded looking outside to see how bad it was getting.

“Yes! You go do that and I’m just going to take Murphy out, who knows when I will be able to take him out again. I will just take him outside between our house’s and I can just run right back.”

"I am going to put your chairs and table in the garage first. Then I will take care of my chairs." Tim followed Pam and Murphy out of the house. He picked up the Adirondack chairs one at a time and carried them to the garage. Then he took the table into the garage. On the way out, Tim made sure that the door was securely closed.

As he started to make his way to his house, there was a loud bang as the wind was picking up and blowing things around. It spooked Murphy, and Murphy took off running toward the beach at full speed. Tim saw Murphy take off and went running after him. There was no way he was going to be able to catch up to Murphy. Tim just hoped that he would be able to keep an eye on Murphy.

Tim ran out onto the beach and saw Murphy in the distance. It was hard to keep going because he was running against the wind and the blowing sand. The storm was getting worse. There was no way it was going to miss Seaside Cove. In fact, it seemed like Seaside Cove was going to take a direct hit.

The rain started to come harder. Tim was drenched, but he couldn't give up on Murphy. It looked like Murphy had stopped. Tim kept fighting through the wind and rain and blowing sand. As he got closer, Murphy realized who it was and came over to Tim. Tim knelt down in the sand and rubbed Murphy's neck. They were both soaked. "Come on boy. We need to get you back home. I am sure your mom is worried about you."

Tim grabbed Murphy's collar and they started back. Tim realized Murphy had settled down and he didn't need to hold the collar any longer. They made it back to where Pam was waiting. She was drenched also. She had been standing out in the rain waiting and hoping. "You could have stayed somewhat dry on the porch. Now, I think all 3 of us need showers. Why don't I get the dirt and sand off Murphy in my outdoor shower, then we can both get showers while he starts to dry off."

“Sounds like a plan, follow me, I’ll show you where they go.” Tim followed her and Murphy out to the screened in patio and she opened the garage door for him. “ I’m going to get Murphy all harnessed up to take him for a quick walk.”

Pam put her jacket on and grabbed a small umbrella, she grabbed Murphy’s harness and leash and ventured outside. The moment they stepped out, they heard a loud bang from a garbage can that had hit the side of the house. It startled her and before she knew it, Murphy was off and running. She let out a loud scream and tried to go after him, but she tripped on a large rock and fell into the wet grass.

Tim must’ve heard her screams and came barreling out of the house, he checked on her to see if she was okay before running out to find Murphy. She could feel the hot tears sliding down her face as the rain pelted against her skin. After about 5 minutes, but seemed like an eternity, Pam saw 2 figures approaching her. He found him! She was never so happy to see somebody as much as Tim and Murphy. Pam nodded when he mentioned something about a shower.

Quickly, Tim took Murphy to his back yard and turned on the outside shower. Yes, It was raining, but they needed to get the sand off of Murphy. Tim used some shampoo to wash Murphy down then he rinsed him off. It didn't bother him that Murphy shook off while they were still in the shower; he was soaked and it wasn't possible to get any wetter.

Tim took Murphy back over to Pam's house and up onto the porch. He knocked on Pam's door and asked her for a towel to dry Murphy off a little before he went back into her house. When Pam brought Tim a towel, he dried Murphy off the best he could. It wasn't great, but at least he wouldn't drip all over the floor.

After turning Murphy back over to Pam, Tim stood outside the door. "I am going to go get a shower. I think you should too. Take a hot shower so you don't get sick."

Pam was feeling numb all over, from the storm, from her fall and from the thought of almost losing her dog. Tim had washed all the sand from Murphy’s fur and dried him the best he could. She was just grateful that he went out of his way to put his life at risk to run after him.

She watched Tim run home to take a shower after returning Murphy to her. Walking slowly upstairs and to the bathroom, Pam lit a few candles just in case she lost power. Waiting for the water to reach the right temperature, she peeled her soaking wet clothes off and stepped into the shower. The hot water cascading down over her cold, sore body.

After drying off and putting on some dry clothes, Pam headed back downstairs, she noticed that the lights were flickering a bit. “Shouldn’t be long now.” She quickly made a pot of coffee, really needing some after what just happened.

Tim walked back to his house. He was in no hurry. He was already soaked, so, rushing home wouldn't keep him from getting wet. Tim always enjoyed rain storms; sitting and watching them. This however was different; much, much different.

Tim stopped and picked up the chairs that had been blown off his deck. Carrying the chairs around to his garage, Tim put them inside and secured the door. He took one last look around before heading inside the house.

Once inside, Tim went upstairs to the bathroom and stripped off his clothes. He turned on the shower and while waiting for the water to get hot, he laid his wet clothes out to dry. He wasn't going to put them in the wash, because he had a feeling the power was going to go out soon. He stepped into the shower and under the water. The hot water felt good on his body. He just stood under the spray; letting it flow down over his body; taking away the chill.

While Tim was in the shower, the lights in his bathroom flickered, then they went out. "Well, I guess that is it for electricity for a while." He stayed in the shower for a little longer.

After getting out and drying off, Tim got dressed. He walked around his house trying to figure if there was anything else for him to do. It didn't seem so. It was just sit back and wait for the storm to go through.

While sitting on the sofa, sipping on her coffee, the lights flickered once and complete darkness. “Well, fuck me!” Pam said with a deep sigh. She waited for the generator to kick in, but nothing. “I know there’s plenty of gas in it.” Murphy started whining and pacing. Grabbing a flashlight, she looked at him, knowing she needed to step out and check the generator.

Pam could go by the way of her screened in patio to the garage and not get too wet, however there was debris flying everywhere, The moment she stepped outside, a gust of wind threw her backwards and knocked the wind out of her, and her world went dark.

Murphy was watching from the door, he started barking loudly and tried getting out to Pam, he nudged the door open and went over to her, she wasn’t moving. He barked some more, but nothing. Running out of the yard, he recognized Tim’s house and started scratching at his door.

Tim heard a scratching at his door. At first he thought it was just something blowing against the door. Then, he heard it again. Tim went to the front door and opened it and saw Murphy standing there. The dog barked at Tim and then took off toward Pam's house.

He had no idea what was going on. Why was Murphy out? What was he doing at his door? Tim decided to follow Murphy. He walked out of his house; making sure the door was closed tightly behind him. He ran after Murphy: again. This was becoming a habit. Then he saw Pam laying on the ground.

Tim ran to where Pam was, and knelt beside her. He shook her and got no reaction from her. Tim picked Pam up and carried her into her house. He laid her on the sofa. She was wet from laying out in the rain. He tried to get a reaction from her. If he was unable to, he would have to figure out a way to get Pam to a hospital. That would be a challenge.

Suddenly, Pam opened her eyes. "It is okay Pam. Everything is okay. Relax. I am here for you."
