A Rising Storm

Pam was laying on a white sand beach, the sound of the waves crashing along the shore, the sun shining. She had on a red string bikini, she thought to herself, “What a nightmare that was.” Suddenly she heard someone calling her name. Her eyes snapped open and it was dark, she could see that Tim was sitting by her.

She winced in pain when she tried to sit up, “Fuck!” How did you find me? I went out to try and check the generator and next thing I know I getting thrown on the ground.” I think I hurt my leg.” Pam saw that Tim looked worried. “I’m starting to get a complex, here…every time you turn around I get wet.” She burst into laughter and realized how weird that sounded.

When Pam said she thought she hurt her leg, Tim got up and moved down by her feet. He took her legs in his hands one at a time and ran them up and down. "Tell me where it hurts Pam. Which leg is it?"

Tim looked at Pam with wide eyes when she said that she got wet every time he was around. "Wow, I didn't realize that I had that kind of an effect on you." He smiled at Pam as he flirted with her a little. Then he took his hands off her legs. "If I do that to you just by being around you, I should probably not be touching you. You never know what might happen if I have my hands on you."

Pam looked at Tim and told him it was her left knee, it was throbbing. She had Tim pull up her soaked pant leg and sure enough it was swelling up like a balloon. His hands felt nice on her legs, they were smooth and soft, not rough and calloused. “I must’ve hit it when the wind blew me over.”

She could feel herself blush when he started flirting with her a bit. It had been quite a while since a man flirted with her, it awakened something in her. “Oh, is that so?” She teased back. “Well that may be a problem, because I think my knee may need an ice pack and I may need some help getting out of these wet clothes and into some dry ones.”

Pam laughed nervously…”Tim, I’m so sorry, I don’t make a habit of talking like that to men I’ve just met, my apologies if I made you feel awkward, I guess I’m just feeling a little vulnerable.”

"Oh, so you want me to undress you. I think I could handle that." Tim smiled at Pam and then listened as she apologized for what she said.

"Pam, there is nothing to apologize for. It was just some innocent flirtation, right? And if it was more than that, well, we are both adults and are responsible for our own words and actions. So, why don't we do this; I will help you into your bedroom. You can get yourself out of your wet clothes while I go and get you some ice to put on your knee. That is, unless you really want me to undress you." He paused, with a serious look on his face. Then he started laughing. "I am joking... maybe."

Tim helped Pam up the stairs to her bedroom and got her to a sitting position on the side of the bed. "Okay, now, I am going to go get ice from the freezer and put it in a plastic bag. You call me when you are ready, and I will help you back downstairs unless you want to lay in bed with the ice on your knee. That will be up to you."

He patted her shoulder and went downstairs to get the ice; taking his time, figuring it would take Pam a while to get changed.

“Well, now that is an offer I cannot refuse.” Pam smiling and winked at Tim. He was easy to flirt with.

She listened to Tim tell her there was no reason for an apology, it made her feel at ease. “Yes, you’re absolutely right, a little innocent flirtatious banter is definitely not a bad thing. We are adults, and yes, responsible for our words and actions.” She remained the eye contact with Tim, his eyes were absolutely mesmerizing, she could get lost in those eyes.

He helped her off the sofa and started up the stairs, he had his arm around her waist, Her body felt tingles as he helped her up to her bedroom. She was glad she had put battery operated lanterns throughout the house, as it was dark with the power being out.

Tim eased her down on the bed and joked about helping to undress her… perhaps. “ I think I’ll be okay, but I may need help easing these pants over the knee, it’s pretty swollen and painful. How about you go grab the ice and then come back up, would that be okay?”

While Tim was getting the ice, it was hard for him not to think about Pam getting changed. He thought about her getting undressed. Well, more precisely, he thought about undressing her. The ice in his hand snapped his thoughts back to the task at hand. He had to get ice for her knee. He didn't want it to swell up.

After putting the ice in a plastic bag, he put that bag in another zip-lock bag to make sure there were no leaks and headed back into the living room. He paused at the bottom of the stairs wondering if he had given Pam enough time to change; considering the fact that she had hurt her knee and could not move around real well.

Starting up the stairs, Tim called out to her. "Pam, I am coming" He paused flirtatiously. "up the stairs with your ice."

After Tim left the room, Pam leaned over and pulled out a fitted black v-neck tee. She pulled the wet sweatshirt over her head and tossed it into the laundry basket. The thought of Tim helping her undress made her mind race and her body tingle. She thought to herself, “It’s not like I asked him to strip me down, hell he’s just helping me pull my pants over my knee.”

As Tim was coming back up the stairs, she heard him announcing himself, but with a little tease in his tone, which made her smile. “It’s okay, come on in!” Pam was leaning back on her hands with her sore leg stretched out on the bed. “Thank you so much. Not too swollen, but enough to be somewhat uncomfortable.” She smiled as Tim handed her the bag of ice.

Looking up at him, she smiled. “You must think I’m a big baby, huh? The thing is, I’ve got a pretty high pain tolerance, but when it comes to my knee, I cringe. When I first move to Seaside Cove, I fell off my bike and screwed up my knee, I needed surgery to repair it and yeah…” Her voice trailed off. “So would you mind helping me?”

"So, you are going to lean back in your bed and ask me to take your pants off. Wow, and I didn't even know this was a date." He winked at her and smiled before reaching to help her ease the pants off and over her injured knee.

Tim took the wet pants and her wet shirt and laid them on the floor. "Do you need to change your panties, or are they still dry?"

Then, he took the dry pants that she wanted to put on and helped her into them making sure they went over her knee without causing too much pain and discomfort. Once he had her situated, he picked up her wet clothes off the floor. "I will help you down the stairs. Where would you like me to put your wet things?"

Pam laughed at Tim’s comment, thinking to herself, she wouldn’t mind being on a date with him right now. “Tim…I know we haven’t known each other that long, but…if we get through this, would you like to have dinner with me sometime?” Her heart was racing at what she just did, she never asked a man out before, it was always her being asked.

He eased the wet pants down her toned, tan legs. She winced a few times, but he eventually got them off. Looking deep into his eyes, with a smile, “No, my panties are fine, but thank you.”

“There is a basket in the bathroom, you can just put them in there.” Tim started to help her down the steps, but at the last minute he just scooped her up in his arms and carried her down. Pam let out a little shriek of surprise and smiled. Murphy popped his head up and came over to them to see what was going on.

Tim carried Pam down the stairs. It took a lot less time than having her hobble down each of the steps, and Pam would feel less pain, also. He carried Pam over to the sofa and set her down. "It's okay Murphy. Your mom is a bit of a cripple right now. I just wanted to get her down the stairs without her hurting herself more." Tim rubbed Murphy's neck as he talked to him.

Standing up, he looked at Pam. "Now that you are in dry clothes and you are back on your sofa, is there anything I can do for you or is there anything I can get for you?"

Murphy suddenly started barking and ran to the door. "It's okay boy, it is the storm. It's going to get worse before it gets better." Murphy looked at Tim and then back to the door and started barking; louder and more aggressively. Tim walked over and rubbed between Murphy's ears. "Is there somebody out there boy? Is that what you are barking at?"

Tim was hesitant to open the door, but the way Murphy was acting made him wonder if someone was outside. When he opened the door, two trash cans went flying by the door. There was debris everywhere and the rain was coming down he could barely see the house next door. There's nothing there boy." Tim closed the door and knelt down next to Murphy. "Why don't you go lay down by your mommy, boy. This storm is going to take a while to go away."

He stood up and walked to Pam. "So, as I had started to ask before, what can I do for you?"

After placing Pam down on the sofa, Tim asked her if there was anything she needed, not answering right away, she could think of a few things she wouldn’t mind having from him, but she dare not say what she was thinking, unsure of how Tim would react, they had only known each other for a day. Pam’s heart sunk a bit when Tim avoided her question about having dinner or something if they made it through this monster of a storm. Maybe he didn’t hear her, or maybe he was shy, or maybe he was old fashioned and liked to do the asking, she put it aside.

Murphy started barking loudly and pacing in circles, almost like he was spooked from something. The wind against the house was howling, the rain almost sounded like hail, it was so loud. Tim opened the main door and there was debris flying down the street, along with somebody’s garbage cans. “God, this storm is a beast.” Pam thought to herself.

“Tim, looks like we will be spending some time together, we might as well make ourselves comfortable. Would you mind lighting some more candles?” Pam handed Tim a flashlight and pointed to where the candles on the counter were, as well as the matches. After lighting a few more candles, Tim came over and sat on the sofa next to her, lifting her sore leg and placing it on his lap. Pam smiled at him, “Tim, I’ve told you about myself, I’d love to know more about you.”

Tim got up and started to light a few of the candles that Pam had set throughout the first floor of the house. "Yes, we will have to preserve the batteries. I should have brought batteries and flashlights with me from my house. Of course, I will be able to go get them once the storm passes. I am sure we will be without power for at least a few days."

After lighting some candles, Tim turned off the flashlight and handed it back to Pam. "Well Pam, I started my own business a few years back. I worked for an investment firm. I built up a good client base. Decided to go out on my own. Have done pretty well. Moved here a year ago. I have very little family. Was raised by a single mom who passed away a week before I graduated college. I am on my own and have enjoyed Seaside Cove for the last year. I don't go out much, but when I do I like to let loose. That is me in a nutshell."

Pam watched as Tim went around and lit some candles that she had set around the house, he shut the flashlight off to save the battery power. “Oh, don’t worry, I have plenty, I’m sure we’ll be fine.” She watched him walk back towards her, she wondered why such a wonderful guy, such as himself was not snatched up by one of Seaside Cove’s many bachelorette’s.

The pain in her knee seemed to be fading and the swelling started to go down. She listened as Tim told her about himself, about not having much family and not really one to go out socially, very much like herself in some ways. Her eyes twinkled when he mentioned something about when he does go out and letting loose. With a sexy grin, she asked, “Okay, I’m just going to ask…..care to share with me how you let loose?” If that’s too forward, I understand, I’m just a curious person, by nature.”

Tim sat down on the other end of the sofa from Pam. He looked at her stretched out with ice on her knee. It was amazing to him that this woman lived only two houses away from him and he had never seen or talked to her. He figured that it had a lot to do with how much he worked and how she was running her own business, also.

"Well Pam, I guess let loose means a lot of different things to different people. I am not that guy that you will see hooting and hollering and making a scene. When I let loose I come out of my shell. In case you haven't noticed, I am pretty reserved. I stay to myself and I have a small group of close friends. Sometimes it keeps me from making new friends. Sometimes it makes me look antisocial. I'm not antisocial, it is just that it takes me a while to feel comfortable with people. It is just my nature, but when I do make a friend. I would do anything for them. So, when I go out, my kind of letting loose is to open up. I tend to be much more outgoing and a bit of a jokester. My sarcastic side comes out. My friends call me Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, because when we are out together I am a different person."

Listening to Tim open up to her about how he lets loose, she could see a look in his eye as he spoke, a look of amazement, perhaps. The dim light of the candles was just enough to see his handsome face, she couldn’t believe they has never run into each other. Of course with his job, he probably had client phone calls all hours of the day, not much different than her schedule.

“Yes, Tim, you’re absolutely right, there’s no one way to define “letting loose. I find how you’ve just described yourself in a social setting, wonderful qualities in a person. I tend to be the same way as you’ve just described, when I’m out with friends. As a matter of fact, the first time I took my team out for a dinner and drinks, they saw a different side of me. They thought I was all business, they came to respect me for the respect I gave them every day. When I had to take some time off after losing my husband, they kept a tight ship.” So, I guess what I’m trying to say, I tend to be more outgoing also when I’m comfortable with someone.”

“Tim, do you believe that people come into your life for a reason? I’m really glad you’re here with me right now, I’m not gonna lie, this beast of a storm has me terrified.” All of a sudden there was a loud bang against the side of the house.

"It is great that you have a staff that was able to help you out during such a difficult time. It had to be awful for you and I am sure it is something that you are still struggling with. To lose the love of your life has to be something that you will never fully recover from, but it is great to see that your staff has helped you as much as they have."

Tim kept his eyes on Pam. "It seems like we are similar when it comes to being comfortable with others. Once we really get to know someone then we let loose; don't hide anything and have a great time."

As the storm intensified, it got even darker in the house. With the candles flickering, Pam's house took on an almost romantic feeling. "This storm is going to be awful. I almost wish I had listened to others and evacuated, but I am really glad I stayed since you are still here. I wouldn't want you to have to go through this alone."

“It really is, they are like a second family to me. It was pain, unlike any other, that I’ve felt. I went into shutdown mode for awhile, had I not found Murphy and the love and support from my friends and family, not to mention strength, I wouldn’t be sitting here today.” I do still struggle with it, and probably will the rest of my life…but I also know that he would not want me to be unhappy and not live a wonderful life.”

Pam could feel Tim’s eyes on her, not in a lewd way, more like in amazement. She smiled at him when he spoke of how much alike they were, when getting to that comfortable spot when getting to know someone. “I agree, I think we are extremely similar in that way.”

With the wind howling and the rain pounding against the house, their silhouettes danced on the wall behind them. The atmosphere felt romantic and content. “I have no doubt it’s going to be nothing short of disastrous.” Pam reached out and grabbed Tim’s hand and squeezed.“I’m really glad you stayed too, it means a lot to me.”

As they sat in the dark with the candles flickering, the sounds of things blowing around outside echoed through Pam's house. Murphy couldn't relax and sat right next to Pam with his head in her lap.

He felt Pam squeeze his hand tighter as the storm intensified and the house shook. "It will be okay Pam. We will get through this together. I am happy we have each other to get through this. Well, with the help of Murphy, of course."

Tim moved onto the sofa and sat near Pam. "Yes, we will be able to get through it. You just tell me what you need or what you want me to do and I will be happy to help you out." Tim patted Pam on her good knee and gave her a wink and a smile. "We will be just fine together Pam."

As the storm intensified, you could hear debris and whatever else was blowing around out there, the palm trees looked like they were going to snap down the middle. Murphy couldn’t relax, he would alternate laying by Pam and laying at Tim’s feet. “He has really taken to you, I’ve never seen him so attentive to someone he’s just met.”

She felt sparks when her hand touched Tim’s, she wondered if he felt it also. He moved over and sat down next to her, her anxiety from the storm was probably obvious and he wanted to assure her it would be okay.

“It’s got to be late, are you tired?” I do have a spare room if you need to lay down, or we can stay here.” Yes, we sure will be fine together.”Pam drifted into a thought, just for a brief moment to find herself very attracted to her new friend.

"No Pam, I'm not tired. Even if I was tired, I doubt I could fall asleep. There is too much going on to fall asleep right now. Plus, my anxiety level is pretty high. I have never been in a storm that is anything close to what this storm is right now, and I know it is only going to get worse."

Tim was not the kind of guy that let people know he was nervous. He held those feelings inside, so, it was surprising to himself that he had told Pam that he was anxious. He must really feel comfortable around her despite only knowing her for a couple of hours.

"If you want to go to bed, I can help you upstairs. Then, I will come back down her and ride out the storm. Just let me know if you want me to get you to your bed."

Pam listened to Tim open up to her about his anxiety from the increased activity of the storm. She admired a man who was willing to admit that, she found it an attractive quality when a man allowed himself to be vulnerable. “I’ve been through quite a few of them, but nowhere near as bad as this one looks. Don’t worry, Tim, you’re not alone, my anxiety level is pretty high itself.”

She moved closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder, her hand still in his, his thumb rubbing over her hand softly. Pam could sense his anxiety, it was just the kind of person she was, but when she laid her head against him, it was almost as if she was calming him.

“No, I’m not tired either, my mind is racing, and as I said, my anxiety level is also high. If you don’t mind, I’ll just stay here with you, and we will ride this out….together.”

Tim was surprised when Pam moved closer to him and put her head on his shoulder; surprised but not upset. He didn't mind it at all that Pam was sitting closer to him.

He wondered what it would be like if they met under different circumstances. Tim felt awkward being this close to her, because he was afraid of saying or doing something that might be interpreted as him trying to take care of a bad situation.

"Yes Pam, we will get through this together. I am happy that I am here so that you can ride it out with me."

After a few minutes of leaning on Tim’s shoulder, she could feel him tense up a bit, she sat up straight and became very quiet. “I’m sorry about that, I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable, as much as I hate to admit, guess I was having a vulnerable moment.”

The thought crossed her mind, that if they had met sooner, would they still be here tonight? They had only met hours before, but felt as she had known him for years, being in his presence put her at ease.

Tim took her hand and told her he was happy to be here with her and that they would ride out the storm together. The howls of the wind increased and grew louder, every now and then some type of debris or someone’s garbage cans would hit the side of the house. This storm was not leaving anytime soon.

"No Pam. It is okay. You didn't make me feel uncomfortable. How could I be uncomfortable with a beautiful woman resting her head on my shoulder? I was just adjusting the way I was sitting. I wanted to make sure that you didn't think I was trying to do anything inappropriate."

Tim held onto Pam's hand to try to help her to relax. The fact that she mentioned that she felt vulnerable made him feel bad for having adjusted himself on the sofa and sending a signal that he was uncomfortable with her head on his shoulder.

"Pam, you can put your head back on my shoulder if you would like. I am here for you. Whatever you need, I will help you with. Just let me know what it is you want or need."

Pam listened as Tim explained he was just shifting his body and the way he was sitting. She reached over and handed him a small remote, “The sofa reclines, it’s quite comfortable, you can also put your feet up and lay back.” She saw his eyes widen when she told him about the reclining feature. “No, I didn’t get that feeling from you at all.”

He caressed her hand and even pulled her closer and tilted her head over to his shoulder. Laying in the dark, in the comfortable silence between them, she felt content and her anxiety seem to lift away and almost disappear.

After a few minutes, she lifted her face up towards his, her wide hazel eyes, looking into his, asking with a soft smile,”You think I’m beautiful? “Pam had always been confident in her looks, in the most humble way, but there were days, such as this one, where she just needed to hear those words.
