A Soldier's Love (closed)

"I have no intention of getting dead. I spent two years in Iraq, surrounded by people who wanted me and mine in the ground. I know how to survive a hostile environment. I am not helpless nor am I stupid. Trust me, I'm your best chance out of this shit storm. Stop hiding and start fighting. I'm not a violent person but I do know my shit. I really don't want to force you, but I can't let you go back, not again, not after what happened to you last night."

She was panicked. Robert's reach and control scared her more than anything. The music around them could not even help her. She just stared at Jack terrified and confused.

I... I don't know...

"I do. Run with me, Dee, just run. Youve got to get out of this, I can help. Pleaee, let's just get out of town. I know a place where we can lay low, just you and me. And there's no way for Robert will know where I went. I promise. We'll be safe there until my friends can find out what he did with your driver. Between that and this video of him raping you, it doesn't matter who he's got in his pocket, he'll go away for sure."

I'm scared Jack...

She was shaking searching his eyes and their surroundings as if she was sure Robert would just appear.

"It's smart to be scared, it keeps you on your toes. Just don't let it control you Daniella." He squeezed her hands, showing her his support.

I... Can't do this...

She couldn't shake the fear of any of it... Robert... The touch of a male even just holding her hands. Like a trapped rabbit surrounded by hunters

"Yes you can." Jack let go of her hands slowly. "Yes you can!" He did his best to calm and compel her. "Just come with me." He stood up and offered her one gifting hand.

She bit her lip but took his hand. She wanted to trust. She wanted to believe and yet it was more perhaps her fear of his not taking no for an answer.

What... What do we do?

"Get in the car and drive away." Jack said simple, taking her hand and leading her out. "It's going to be fine, trust me."

She wanted to trust but it was not something that came easy for her. Walking with him out the door terrified that Robert would see them or hear about them.

Minutes crept by as they drove, then an hour as they left the city. It didn't surprise Jack at all, it wasn't Roberts style, he'd wait until they weren't looking for him to spring on them. He wouldn't put it past Robert to have some sort of tracking device on the car, he would check for one when they stopped. That was part of his job back in iraq after all.

After about four hours they left the state. "I have a buddy who will let me use his cabin on a lake for a while. We'll go there, okay? It's pretty well hidden, I think we'll be safe there. We'll stop for gas and food here in about an hour, okay? I've got to check for something as well..." he was already glancing over the interior for signs of tampering.

She nodded still scared and looking for Robert in every car around them.

Okay...

When they stopped for food and gas, Jack got up under the car and sure enough, found a transmitter. "Nice on, Bobby..." he grunted, removing it with the utmost care. While they ate, he also took the phone apart and removed the Sim card, keeping only the memory with the video of Daniella being raped for evidence against his brother. "Okay, unless he's low jacked you somehow, I think we're safe now." He looked her over at a glance. "He hasn't talked you into plastic surgery, or anything, has he?" He wouldnt put it past his brother to do something thst fucked up, not any more. "They can track us here, but after we leave, they won't know where to look. Just don't make a scene and don't talk to anyone. The less the locals notice us, the better. He might get what direction we leave from here, but we can switch roads easy enough. See? I know my shit."

No... No plastic surgery.

She sat there chewing more on her lip than her food still scared worried that Robert was watching them or already following them.

I never said you didn't I just know how he can be.

Jack took a bite of his meal and looked at her as she chewed on her lip. "Hey, relax, if he sends someone, I'll deal with them. I know a thing or two. The more he makes a scene, the less he's going to be able to hide what he's done."

Just then, a man walked in, looking like he was searching for someone. "Don't turn around, look in the mirror over in the corner and tell me if you know this guy..." Jack instructed, taking a menu from the next table to hide behind.

No but I don't know all of his associates.

She glanced but all it did was make her more scared.

"Okay... well, I think it's a safe bet he's an associate. You stay put. I'll deal with him."

Jack walked calmly to the bathroom, drawing the man's attention, who followed him in a moment later.

Jack hunkered down in a stall and waited. Sure dnough, the guy was looking for him, kicking open stall door after stall door.

When he got to Jacks, he was ready for him and sprung out in a kick, sending him back into the far wall the a thump. "Should have stuck with door number two, asshole!" Jack quipped as he knocked the dazed man out with a tight cross. He used the man's tie to bind him to the sinks piping.

Rushing out, he caught Daniella by her elbow and lifted hef to her feet. "Gotta go, gotta go." He rushed her out, trying not to make a scene.

Hurrying with him she tossed more than enough money on the table as they left. She was almost in a panic when they got in the car.

I told you that he would never let me run.

"Relax, that was nothing. He's going to have to throw a hell of a lot more than one schmuck at us to take me down." Jack had a dangerous glint in his eyes as he started the car and drove off. "I just hope you had enough to eat for a while. I don't think we should stop again unless we absolutely have to. I'm pretty sure the car is clean now, but the more distance we put between us and him the better. We can be at my friends cabin in a couple days."

She just nodded and tried to curl up in the seat to sleep. It was all too much right now. Robert's brother of all people was trying to help her escape. Someone already tried to hunt them down who knows what Robert will do to get back at them. Sleep was not easily found and was far from peaceful even though she slept for hours her mind tormented her with out letting her wake.

Daniella had been out for about six hours before road fatigue started to creep in on Jack. He cracked the window, hoping the cool air would help keep him alert, then he turned on the radio. When he caught himself drifting even with those aide he knew it was time to stop. He reached over and patted her on the knee lightly. "Hey, Daniella, we need to stop for the night, I gotta get some sleep..." he took an exit ramp that promised a cheap hotel and an even cheaper meal. He stifled a yawn with the back of his hand and smiled down at her as he drove on. "I pulled a whole wad of cash out the other night, so I can pay in cash, just in case they're watching for credit card transactions. We won't leave any trail for them to find" he was sure he was just being paranoid, but it was safer than being caught with his pants down.

"Dennys and a red roof for one night sound good to you?" He asked, giving her a glance.

She jumped on instinct at the touch and her dreams didn't really help.

Oh... Yeah... That's... That's fine.

They ate and Jack got them a room.

"I'm going to take a shower." He said as he opened the door to their room, rubbing his neck. He was stiff and tired from all the driving. "I need to relax... it's been one fucked up day. Hell, this whole weeks been fucked up." He looked Daniella over. "I'm glad you finally listened to me, you needed to get away before he killed you." He reached out, slowly, to touch her cheek, still expecting her to flinch.

She closed her eyes tight at a hand nearing her face. It was normal reaction to her. To flinch second nature. She knew it upset Jack but she could not stop.

Okay... I guess I will see what's on TV till you are done.

Jack sighed, at learn she let him touch her, that alone seemed like a big improvement.

He jumped in the shower and spent twenty minutes in, just enjoying the soothing warmth after he washed up.

He came out in a towel and nothing else and hopped into bed.

"What are you watching?" He asked, stretching out and laying back with his hands up, behind his head.

His bare chest was smooth and his stomach was flat. There was, however, a thick, white scar that snaked it's way along his side.
