A song that's personal to you?

Not a Virgin

I'm not a virgin anymore

I just thought you should know
Darlin' I've been around
I took a walk up your block
In fact I have been all over town
Down by the lake
And underneath the table in my living room
But side with the blue blue moon

You can call me what you will
Call me a slut call me a jaded pill
But darlin I've got your number now

I'm not a virgin anymore
I've been taken
I've been hung up
I get down and start it over again
I've been open
And I've been closed like a book
And burned down like a written sin
I just thought you should know my darling
Before we begin
I'm not a virgin anymore

Just thought you should know
Before you let another lie
Slip through those crooked little teeth
I don't think you wanna start that shit with me

Much better yet
Tell me something dangerous and true
Oh yeah that looks much sexier on you

Careful what it is you say
'Cause I can see right through you
On a cloudy day and darlin' I think you wanna play
I'm not a virgin anymore
I've been taken
I've been hung up
I get down and start it over again
I've been open
And I've been closed like a book
And burned down like a written sin
I just thought you should know my darling
So if you wanna play dirty darling I'm gonna win
I'm not a virgin anymore

Been there done that
(Say what?)
Get the hang of it
Get screwed
I screw you I had a whole lot of fun with it
I've had enough now so you better take a bow
It's gonna be a new experience if you wanna play with me

Daisy chains and maryjanes
Happy ending fairy tales
Cannot fool me now

I've been taken
I've been hung up
I get down and start it over again
I've been open
And I've been closed like a book
And burned down like a written sin

Hell I've been divided
Out of my mind and reinvented again
I've been ignited and then uninvited
So honey
You break it up
I'm gonna put it back together again

I just thought you should know my darling
Before we begin

I'm not a virgin anymore

~lucky (who thinks tons of nasty thoughts when she hears this song)

Poe: Haunted: Not a Virgin Anymore

I know it's a a smarmy song!and we are not supposed to like her but when i was in probably my lowest point in life i had a very special friend who by just one action of her buying a cd for me, let me know i had a meaning in life

Because you loved me~Celine Dion

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because You Loved Me

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

Now that's an emotional song, although I must admit I adore Celine.;)

guess there is something about a good ballad that tugs at the heartstrings and makes the tearducts open ...

Oh yes - The "ballad" is designed to be powerful, to emphasise passion over speed. It's often vaguely orchestral in nature, with many ballads having a string quartet in backing. Out of all the types of song, the ballad is one that crosses all popular musical genres, and the one that has the greatest range of dynamics, musically, from the soft poignant verses, to the rising excitement during a pre-chorus to the swelling and passionate chorus.

If you think my description is vaguely sexual, it's meant to be. Ballads are about passion, and about the relationship between a passionate couple. And there's a famous semi-joke, attributed to legend:

"When rock bands sing about love, they mean sex. When Motley Crue sings about anything, they mean sex"

And the humorous part of that aside, the first half of it is very true. And everyone knows how love feels, how it feels when it works, how it feels just at the start, how it feels when it ends, and all the times in between.

Ballads capture us because not only can a talented songwriter find the right words to express what's in all of our hearts at those moments, he (or she) can also create the musical vistas that echo those words. That's why choruses are traditionally more intense than the verses, the music swells, the drums get louder, and the passion in the singers voice grows stronger.

Ballads bare our souls, and as a songwriter, I'm very glad that they do.

ps to Raphy, Please post more. How on earth could you think you would be boring us? :rose:

Aaah, I always tend to think that I'm boring people (or imposing upon them) by posting my own lyrics. I'm not very good at self advertisement that way.

But, here's something I wrote a few years ago. Every ballad I've ever written has been for a reason. Every one has a story behind it, a girl associated with it, and a memory attached to it. And maybe, if I write a little about where each song came from, maybe you all will find relevance for them in your own lives.

A few years ago, I was sort of involved with a girl from Virginia. I was still in the UK at the time, but she and I were emotionally very close. We visted maybe every few months, or as finances would allow, but it was getting tougher and tougher.

As it happened, about twelve or eighteen months into the relationship I met a girl in the city I was living in and I allowed myself to become attached to her, also. This song was the result of that confusion.

Coming Home
Sometimes it's funny, the things we do
Sometimes it's hard to draw a line between me and you
Sometimes it's hard to be alone
So I'm coming home

Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong
Sometimes it's like the night seems to last too long
Sometimes it chills me to the bone
So I'm coming home

Sometimes it's hard to choose which road to take
Sometimes it's hard to know which heart to break
Sometimes it's hard to tell the real from the fake
And sometimes I can't make it on my own
So I'm coming home

Sometimes I'm strong and I believe
Sometimes my head is filled with certainty
Sometimes I know what I'm supposed to know
So I'm coming home

Sometimes I'm weak, and I can't resist
Sometimes I need to touch all those things I've missed
So I reach out and pick up the phone
'Cause I'm coming home

Sometimes it's hard to choose which road to take
Sometimes it's hard to know which heart to break
Sometimes it's hard to tell the real from the fake
And sometimes I can't make it on my own
So I'm coming home

Aaah, Poor Celine. She gets a lot of hassle, poor girl, some of it deserved, but most of it undeserved. I'm sure that a lot of it comes from her being seen as a female Michael Bolton and the schmaltz-chick, but I'll admit to owning Falling Into You and liking it.

The thing is though Raphy, I don't understand why she gets such a bad rep. She's one of the greatest female singers of all time in my humble opinion.

Here's a song that touches me. Sometimes, when I sing it, it makes me tear up. In some ways, it's especially relevant right now.

Another Man's Cause by The Levellers
Gunshots shattering the peace of night
It's just another firefight
For the people of this little town

But for the dying soldier
Well he's feeling ten year's older
As he's lying face down on the ground

And all the words that are in his head
Are all the words his mother said
As she would put him to bed back home

But your daddy, well he died in the Falklands
Fighting for another man's cause
And your brother, he was killed in the last war
And your mother, well she's crying home alone

Every day she sees your face
In the picture on the fireplace
With your brother, as you were leaving school

Then the day came, five years ago
You said, "Mother, I need to know,"
And you spoke the words your brother spoke before

"I've seen the things my daddy's done
And I've seen the medals that he won
And I know this is what he would have wanted - For me."

But your daddy, well he died in the Falklands
Fighting for another man's cause
And your brother, he was killed in the last war
And your mother, well she's crying home alone

And she wonders at it all
Just in whose name did these brave young heros fall
And how many more are gonna answer the call
They're gonna fight, fight and die in another country's war
They're gonna die for a religion they don't believe in at all
They're gonna die in a place they should never been at all
No, never been at all

'Cause your daddy, well he died in the Falklands
Fighting for another man's cause
And your brother, he was killed in the last war
And your mother, well she's crying home alone

Gave me a lump in my throat, just typing it out. Singing it is... Well, it's an experience.

the Waterboys: Whole of the Moon.

I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hand
I had flashes
You saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

You were there in the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon

I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
You saw "Brigadoon"
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon

I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered, I guessed and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
And you swooned
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

The torch in your pocket
And the wind on your heels
You climbed on a ladder
And you know how it feels
To get too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

Popcorn and cannonballs
All the season's fears
Trumpets, towers, and tenaments
Wide oceans full of tears
Flags, rags, ferryboats
Senators and scars
Every precious dream and vision
Underneath the stars
Yes, you climbed on a ladder
With the wind in your sails
You came like a comet
Blazing your trai
Too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon

I used to cover this one too - Has some bizarre chord structures in it ;)

Great tune though :)

I always felt a coection to Don't let me get me by pink

Never win first place
I don't suppot the team
can't take direction
and my socks are never clean,

Teachers dated me
my parents hated me
i was always in a fight
cos I can't do nothing right

Every day I fight a war against the mirror
can't take the person staring back at me
I'm hazzard to my self
don't let me get me
I'm my own worse enemy
its bad when you annoy yourself
so irratating
don't wanna be my freind no more
I wanna be somebody else

I wanna be somebody else

LA told me you'll be a pop star
All you have to change
is everything you are.
tired of being compared
to damm Brittney Spears
she's so pretty
that just aint me

So doctor doctor
won't you please perscribe me something
A day in the life of someone else
Cos I'm a hazzard to my self
don't let me get me
I'm my own worse enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself
So irratating
I don't wanna be my freind no more
I wanna be somebody else

repeat twice.

I'm a hazzard to myself
Don't let me get me
I'm my own worse enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself
so irratating
Don't wanna be my freind no more
I wanna be somebody else

repeat to fade.

As coppied from Pinks Misunderstood album.

I wish I could hear your band,,, if you tell me you've covered the Cure, I shall swoon.:)

The Song Remembers When

(written by Hugh Prestwood)

I was standing at the counter
I was waiting for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart

After taking every detour
Getting lost and losing track
So that even if I wanted
I could not find my way back
After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
After I'd forgotten all about us
The song remembers when

We were rolling through the Rockies
We were up above the clouds
When a station out of Jackson played that song
And it seemed to fit the moment
And the moment seemed to freeze
When we turned the music up and sang along

And there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense
We were young and were in love
And we were easy to convince
We were headed straight for Eden
It was just around the bend
And though I have forgotten all about it
The song remembers when

I guess something must have happened
And we must have said goodbye
And my heart must have been broken
Though I can't recall just why
The song remembers when

Well, for all the miles between us
And for all the time that's passed
You would think I haven't gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once
If I stop to wonder how on Earth you are

But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
For even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when
Yeah, and even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when

My chest aches when I hear this song. My soul can still feel sweetly those moments in my life of absolute faith in love and forever...when "there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense..."

And then the sky fell on my head.

Yui ^_^

Aaah, Fat Bob.

How's Friday I'm In Love strike you?
Or Close To Me?
How about Plainsong?

Our lead singer was one of those new romantic wetheads and loved the Cure.. Me, I can take 'em or leave 'em. They have some interesting structures, but the songs don't do anything for me.

Still, I'm a musical whore, if you pay me, I'll play anything you want to listen to... So I did ;)

The only covers that are recorded and online are:

Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Duran Duran - Rio
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Aha - Take On Me
Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
The Housemartins - Happy Hour
Black - Wonderful Life

PM me if you want the addresses (or PM me if you want to hear my stuff, I guess, too)

I've been thinking about this one, trying to come up with just one song to post. (Bet I'll decide to post more later anyway, hehe.) So this is what I finally decided on. It definitely falls under the heading of "cheesy ballad", but it gives me a big ol' smile whenever I hear it 'cause it's so true for me. :)

All Roads Lead To You
performed by Chicago

Headed north on a one-way trip
I never thought I’d be back this way
I never thought I’d be missing you
Enough to suffer for the whole night through
Headed south and I didn’t look back
I rode the wind off a beaten track
Tried running from the thought of you
Haunted down by what I know is true

To the north
To the south
It don’t matter
Every road leads to you

(I’m coming home)

All roads lead to you
Wherever I go
Every time I told you
I was just passing through
What my heart didn’t know
Was all roads lead to you

Headed east on an Amtrak train
I hit the city in the pouring rain
I never thought I’d be calling you
Every hour from that hotel room
Headed west on a jumbo jet
I rode off into the red sunset
I stood there knocking on the devil’s door
Wondering what the hell I'm searchin’ for

To the east
To the west
It don’t matter
Every road leads to you

(I’m coming home)

All roads lead to you
Wherever I go
Every time I told you
I was just passing through
What my heart didn’t know
Was all roads lead to you

All my life, the winding road I’ve followed
Has led me straight to your arms

All roads lead to you
(gotta get back to you, baby)
Wherever I go
Every time I told you
I was just passing through
What my heart didn’t know
Was all roads lead to you

I’m coming home to you, baby

All roads lead to you
(I’m coming home)
All roads lead to you
(never goin’ away again)
All roads lead to you

So yeah, one more after all. Not as 100% meaningful as the other, but still a good one for me.

So Much To Say
by Dave Matthews

I say my hell is the closet
I'm stuck inside
Can't see the light
And my heaven is a
Nice house in the sky
I got central heating
And I'm all right
Yeah yeah yeah
Can't see the light

Keep it locked up inside
Don't talk about it
T-t-talk about the weather
Yeah yeah yeah
Open up my head and
Let me out, little baby

'Cause here we have been standing
For a long long time
Can't see the light
Treading trodden trails
For a long long time,
Time, time, time, time, time, time

I find sometimes it's easy
To be myself
sometimes I find it's better
To be somebody else

I see you young and soft
Oh little baby
Little feet, little feet,
Little hands little baby
One year of crying
And the words creep up inside
Creep into your mind yeah

So much to say,
so much to say,
so much to say,
so much to say.

So much to say,
so much to say,
so much to say,
so much to say.

'Cause here we have been standing
For a long long time
Can't see the light
Treading trodden trails
For a long long time

I find sometimes it's easy
To be myself
sometimes I find it's better
To be somebody else

So much to say,
(repeated lots of times)

Open up my head and
Let me out
Little baby

~M:rose:

I think this song reflects me because I know people around me don't really know me the person instead of what they see on the outside...I guess sort of a battle cry to tell them yeah I'm different but I can do things as good or maybe sometimes better then them.

You just don't...you just don't know me at all!!

Can you tell me what happened here?
Tell me how I should feel.
My life seems to be in disarray.
I feel you testing me, with all your fanasties
And you try and keep me down,
But I won't stay...cause you don't know me

I've been through all this hell before,
I've seen it all and more.
If you think I'm gonna fade away, then you don't know me.
You think you have the upper hand, well that's not my plan.
Stronger now I see that you... you just don't know me at all.

You tried to manipulate, well now this is your fate.
Cause piece by piece, I'm gonna tear you down.
Can't hold the secret now. Find out what I'm about
Did you think I'd let you have your way, well you don't know me.

CHORUS

Your soul is screaming...who's crying now?...
who's crying now?
Your heart is bleeding..who's sorry now!!!

Everytime I hear this one, I almost cry. The melody is so beautiful.

Calling All Angels - Train

I need a sign to let me know you're here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup

When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said

I need a sign to let me know you're here
'Cause my TV set just keeps it all from being clear
I want a reason for the way things have to be
I need a hand to help build up some kind of hope inside of me

And I'm calling all angels
I'm calling all you angels

When children have to play inside so they don't disappear
And private eyes solve marriage lies cause we don't talk for years
And futbol teams are kissing Queens
and losing sight of having dreams
In a world that what we want is only what we want until it's ours

I'm calling all angels
I'm calling all you angels

Raphy, you get the Darth Vader voice:

"Impressive."

Interesting and well-crafted lyrics; I'd like to hear the music.

You also made me less self-conscious about posting one or two of mine...:D

This is special to me perhaps because it's the first love song I ever wrote...

"Creature"

Oh, the wild-eyed scientist, she throws that final switch
And the thing upon the table starts to jump and jerk and twitch
And he looks up at his maker with a pure and perfect love
Who else could he really be dreaming of?

I am your creature
You are my teacher
Every day I learn new ways to burn for you
I am your creature
I can't mistreat ya
Cause loving you is what I'm made to do

When the villagers come for me with pitchfork, torch and axe
Will you keep them occupied while I slide out the back?
I know they fear me for my clumsy, heavy hands,
And only the one who made me understands

I am your creature
And I beseech ya
Only that you keep me close to you
I am your creature
And I will meet ya
Anytime and anywhere you want me to

If the love you put in me must always be in vain
Heat up those electrodes and connect them to my brain
Put it in a dish there with the others in a line
And I'll forever hold you in my mind

I am your creature
My every feature
Forged in the flame of loving you
I am your creature
And I'm tryin' ta reach ya
Cause there is nothing else I want to do

I am your creature
Can I complete ya
I'm diminished, I'm unfinished without you
I am your creature
I'm dyin' ta reach ya
Cause loving you is what I'm made to do

Lucky

I wanna see how lucky Lucky can be, yeah

Ride with me

I saw you through my blind intoxication
My shock induced insane self-medication
You looked at me and smiled
Said get ready to get wild.
sugar you just need a brief vacation

(chorus)
I wanna see how lucky Lucky can be
I wanna ride with my angel and live shockingly
I wanna drive to the edge and into the sea
I wanna see how lucky Lucky can be

I was dried up I was starving I was mangled
I looked like hell, twisted up and tangled
You whispered in my ear
The ghosts are gone it’s clear
For too long you’ve been tied up you’ve been strangled

(chorus)

I don’t wanna ride on a shotgun side
Don’t wanna be a quaint observer on this supersonic ride
Double down, split the aces, to the races
I feel lucky tonight

(chorus)

I wanna see just how lucky Lucky can be
Ride with my angel how I love being free
Drive to the edge and into the sea
I wanna see how lucky Lucky can be

Ride, ride with me, yeah.

I wanna see how lucky
Lucky can be
How lucky Lucky can be

Melissa Etheridge

Steve Perry - Running Alone

Looking down I watch the night
Running from the sun
Orphan stars and city lights
Fading one by one
Oh sweet memories
I call on you now

Two too many hearts been broke
Along this lonely road
Steel grey eyes can shine the lies
Until they look like gold
Cold city sidewalks can turn your heart to stone
The street won't defeat me
Cause I've got the will I'll survive
I don't mind runnin' alone

I believe that every soul
Has a song to sing
The spirit's locked in every man
Waiting for a wing
Oh so much is wasted
And oh so little used
The trick of the dreamer
Is keeping yourself from the blues
And I don't mind runnin'

Everyone's a hero
If you want to be
Everyone's a prisoner
Holding their own key
Every step I take
Every move I make
Always one step closer
I don't mind runnin' alone

Laughing children echo down
The concrete alleyways
Oh their voices
Calling, calling, calling yesterday
Oh sweet memories
Returning to me now
When young eyes saw clearly

Everyone's a hero
It you want to be
Everyone's a prisoner
Holding their own key
Every step I take
Every move I make
Always one step closer
I don't mind runnin' alone

a song my daughter wrote

my 16yo.. wrote me a song yesterday when i was so low.. she played it on the guitar this morning for me.. cant be better than that.

"Land that I Heard of..."

I'm ganna fly as far as my wings will take me
I'll go up into the stars
Im' ganna jump and hope the winds don't forsake me
I'll run away to mars

And I know that wherever I go
I'll be happy forever
Cause this place makes me feel so low
Here's hoping I'll never
Be lonely again.

I'll escape all the tortures of every day life
And be free in a place with no anger or strife
I'll find someplace...

Doesn't matter how many rainbows I'll have to cross
Just as long as they're far away it'll be no loss
I'll float up higher than every cloud
And fine somewhere new
I'll find someplace

I'm ganna fly as far as my wings will take me
I'll go up into the stars
I'm ganna jump and hope the winds don't forsake me
I'll run away to mars
And find somewhere new
I'll find someplace..... to be free
