A Vampire's Beginning. (Closed for cnuveau)

Red hair in a windswept style with dark brown eyes, pale skin and a crisp grey shirt with black cargo pants. He looked for all the world as a university student. No wonder why he was so well suited to preying on them.

He looked from the redhead with vivid green eyes to Jason and back. "So, you live with one of them. Interesting. I'm Aidan O'Neill." Smoothly he offers his hand first to Lacey, then to Jason.

Lacey squeezed Jason's hand before seeking to shake Aidan's own lightly. Each shook lightly, and Aidan smiled at that moment. "Good, you've mastered reigning in that natural strength." He flashed a charming smile. "So, may I come in. I'll observe all the rules of hospitality." When he noticed the lack of recognition there he gave a slow nod.

"I won't hurt either of you, it's your domain, and I will play nice. very nice. I won't even bite your human." Lacey's eyes flared a little then darkly. "You mean, my boyfriend. He's with me. I love him. You recognise it, or you ain't coming in."

Aidan held up his hands in apology. "Right. Boyfriend. The bottom line is. You two, need to talk to me. No lies. No half-truths. There's a whole lot to my world." He looked to Jason then, "..her world. She needs to know about it. Before she crosses some invisible line that she doesn't know about, and we all end up in a world of trouble."

Jason could sense some level of contempt for him in Aiden's voice but didn't let it bother him. He could understand how Aiden would be surprised that Lacey had shared her secret with him and that they were together. It did, after all, go against everything he thought it knew up to this point but Jason had honestly given it little thought.

"Please, come in." Jason said as they stepped back from the door to allow him in. His fascination with what Aiden might share overrode any misgivings he might have at the moment. He'd certainly felt like he was able to separate a lot of fact from fiction in the few weeks he and Lacey had been working out her new situation but Aiden clearly had a more complete understanding of things and he was eager to hear what he had to say.

Jason led them all to the lounge room then offered him a seat in one of the chairs while taking a seat on the sofa with Lacey as he held her hand in his lap.

Aiden's eyes brightened in that moment and Lacey's brows furrowed. "Behave."

It made her accidental maker laugh which had a charismatic lilt to it which was enticing to hear. As he moves he has that preditors hint to how he moved. Smooth. In a word. As he came in he followed them. Then he sought to settle down on that chair offered.

As Lacey sat with Jason she held his hand softly, yet firmly. leaning herself in against his side.

"First things first. Usually when we do decide to bequeath our gift to another. We choose someone fitting. Someone who we think we could stand spending a few hundred years with." Those dark brown glowing eyes looked to Lacey.

"I don't believe I'd ever have deliberately done this to you. I chose you to feed on because you were a breath of innocence drifting about so brightly in a place full of women who'd have done anything with anyone. I watched you. That night. How you kept close to your friends. How you danced only with them. Drank and did a few games here and there. Which got you worryingly drunk. All I could think was. Some insolent ass is going to stumble onto this flower of moonlight. And ravish her." He smiled.

"I'm aware. I did somewhat ravish you. That's a side effect of the blood. Taking it and tasting it. It ... gives to our kind a breath of life. Revitalising us and making everything so alive. I so badly wanted to bury myself in you and lose myself to the tune of your cries." He shakes his head. "You were a heady mix of alcohol and wanton feminine wiles."

Jason might find he could appreciate those words from the Vampire there.

"Anyway. Usually, when we make a child, they're with us for a long while before we release them into the world. It was by chance I discovered there was one of my kind here. In this city." He looks to her then amusedly.

"I find you and discover on your own without a lick of guidance. You've survived. Thrived. Discovering your own ways to feed without killing. Which, surprised me. Usually, it takes a maker's mind guiding their child, to stop them from killing. But you... you seem rather aware..." He looks to Jason. "I assume, you, Sir, are somewhat why she's succeeding. Why she's so far below anyone's radar she's actually rather safe."

Though Aiden, up to this point, hadn't revealed anything of importance to them Jason's mind was still reeling. His talk of spending a few hundred years with the person he shared his gift with made Jason painfully aware of his own mortality and how, as much older than her his is now, it will only become greater as time goes on. Would Lacey sit by while this old man becomes older? For a chance at a longer life with her would he allow her to turn him? He had to stop his thoughts from getting away from him in that moment and focus on the conversation at hand.

"Yes, I've been able to help her navigate things," He finally said "but she's a bright girl and has been able to adapt to things quite well on her own also."

Jason had so many questions but knew he was really just a third wheel in this conversation so he chose to keep his questions to himself and allow Aiden to share what he came to share.

Aidan had secrets of his own. But it was obvious there that Jason was worried about his age. Thus he looked at him for a long moment silently. "You love him don't you?"

Lacey nodded a lot to him then. "I do. Finding him was the happiest day of my life."

Aidan nodded then slowly. "Alright. There's a lesser gift we can choose to give to those we trust. Who are human." He was certain this would catch the man's attention.

"If we give them a little of our blood. It lengthens their life span. Very significantly. It stops it actually. Their aging. Halt's it dead in their tracks. So long as at least once a month, they have half a mouthful of it." He gave them time to take it in.

Lacey just totally sat staring for a while there. "Really? I mean what else does it cause?"

"Nothing bad. He'd be harder to hurt, harder to kill. He'd recover easier. Be stronger. He'd feel more connected to you. The longer it went on, the quicker he'd recover. The more damage it might take to take him down. But he'd be human." A pause. "The only downside is. If you chose in twenty years to stop doing it, he'd age. So. Generally, we only do this, gift, if we want that person with us for many hundreds of years."

It was uncanny how Aiden was able to hone in on Jason's most pressing concern in that moment. As if he was able to read his mind. The lesser gift he spoke of must be shared quite infrequently since he'd never heard any reference to it over his years of study. Not at all surprising though. Jason thought there must be far more he didn't know about it all than what he did know.

"That would definitely be something to consider." he said wanting to make sure the decision to share such a gift would be Lacey's to make. The thought of it all appealed to him quite a bit though.

His inquisitive nature was starting to get the better of him though and he didn't want to distract from Lacey getting other information she needed from him so he decided to re-direct the conversation for the time being at least.

"So how much she needs to feed has been something we've been trying to work out. She seems to get by on once a day but it's not clear what the right amount is. What would you suggest?"

Aidan honestly had to admit to himself the way the human spoke certainly showed the fact he did admire Lacey and must actually love her. Thus he smiled.

Even as Lacey added. "The times I've fed more than once, I've felt stronger and better. Actually, it got a little worrying the one time I walked into the afternoon sun, and my eyes glowed like yours are."

Aidan stilled. it wasn't that the Vampire had been fidgeting. But he seemed to gain a more statue stillness then. Unblinkingly she looked at Lacey as if she'd done something odd.

"But your newborn. A few weeks old. That is surprising. You see most don't start rising that early until they're over fifty." He moved a smidge then leaned in slightly.

"I'm surprised you aren't ripping him open and draining him dry." He certainly sounded surprised. "It's relatively unheard of for those as young as you to actually just get by on a little. And so frequently. Then hearing you've wandered about in the afternoon sun." He seemed to watch her as if she was far too interesting.

"Most her age need a lot more. The fact she isn't raging mad and has such self-control. She's a marvel. Okay." He seemed to take a moment then and finally speak again. "If she's doing okay on a few mouthfuls. Most times that will be fine. She'd just find if she exerted her gifts, she'd have a need for more. Now. I will as her maker secure her an emergency reserve. Not a living person. But donor blood. One can keep it in a screwtop in the fridge for 48 hours. Once you open a bag, heat it and drink as usual."

After a moment he added. "So if she got overly needful, you could get her a mug of it and by the end of it, she'd be fine. Now if she was hurt, and got testy with you. Then is the time to just throw bags at her and let her drain those. So nothing happens to you. Of course, if she's gifted you that gift. You'd actually be able to throw her back from yourself, and hold a door shut against her weakened self if she was hurt."

Jason couldn't help but chuckle a little as the image of warming a bottle of blood then feeding it to Lacey like trying to soothe a fussy baby ran through his head.

Jason wasn't really sure how much to share but found himself compelled to maybe overshare in that moment. "That could definitely be useful though we've arranged a situation where she's able to feed pretty regularly. We bought a bar downtown the provides a steady stream of opportunities for her." As he said it he realized he likely might have piqued Aiden's interest and he might consider wanting to hunt there too. He wasn't quite sure if that was or wasn't a problem but he could certainly see that more than one of them working there could be a problem if not managed properly.

Aidan listened to him there and nodded. "I could see how it could work for her. This is good." He made no indication he'd seek to butt in there about Lacey's arrangements.

"We are technically supposed to ask if we wish to make a child. The hierarchy then grants that request or not. Depending on their mood and such forth." Aidan watched the two of them for a moment.

Lacey squeezes Jason's hand before speaking. "If you are supposed to ask before you do it. What's going to happen to me?"

Aidan knew the answer already and he was satisfied enough that Lacey was in control of herself, she wasn't a danger to them and their ways. "I'll go to the Prince and speak to him in a month's time when Court is held again, and tell him I need to cash in a favour. That you were made accidentally. But I'm taking you under my wing. That despite it all you do have a handle on what you are, how to feed without killing, and you seem a boon to have as a child and member of the vampire clan. When I feel you are ready for it I'll bring you to a meeting of our kind proper."

He pauses allowing them time with that. "In the meantime, I'll give you my address and you can always come and see me anytime you need to."

"Are there Questions your...." Aidan paused realising he'd forgotten his name again.

"My Jason, has?" Lacey murmurs.

Aidan nods, smiles and looks at Jason. "Yes. Jason. Have you questions?"

Jason thought for a moment. He didn’t want to sidetrack them from covering other important information that he might want to share but there were a couple questions he had.

“I do have a couple. She’s been hearing a guiding voice. Would that be someone in the actual hierarchy or is that just instinct being manifested in a voice.

Another one is, What are her actual mortal threats? There’s lots of speculation about that but it’s all just that.”

He felt pretty confident t that at least the last question was important to cover.

Aidan gave a surprised look to Jason. "Instinct. For most of us, it's a feeling. Most. Not all. Personally, mine sounded a little feminine. Which for the longest time had me believing it to be my maker. But. No. It's her instincts rising up and ensuring she'll survive." He gave Lacey a rather proud smile then.

Even as he had that inner thought. ~Fuck. I really might need to head for the Prince's this week and get this mess sorted. In case the few here in this city discover her.~ Finding himself growing protective of her, was not something he expected. Especially since he'd not agonised over her change and gotten her someone to feed from to complete it IF she chose to.

Lacey watched that rather pristine-looking male Vampire sitting there, without the ticks that she knew Jason had. It was weird. Never mind the fact she still did it all herself. There was none of this .... inhuman acting. She made a note to ask Jason. Then she said, "Oh, okay, so when I've been paying attention to it, that's a good thing?"

Aidan gave her a nod fairly easily and quickly. "Yes. A vampire's instincts are our biggest boon. We'll sense something far quicker than we actually think we might with them. If it ever tells you to run. Don't not believe it. Just haul ass and run." He felt he had to stress that point. "Just don't forget to grab Jason when you do." Added in case her human was with her when instinct said, RUN!

"Fire. That's a big one. It triggers something primal within us. Most of us have extreme reactions to it. So. Be mindful. I've known others of our kind who freak out so badly they indiscriminately will kill anyone in their way of trying to escape it." He paused a moment to let that sink in.

"Beheading. That can fuck you up. Especially if someone else doesn't quickly slide the head back into place fast enough. You'll turn to ash rather fast after five seconds."

"There's also stakes. Now if someone shoves a pencil in your thigh, it's going to make your leg feel this numbness spreading out slowly. If it's ripped out fast enough you'll recover quicker. Now if that same pencil is shoved into your heart. You'll go into this suspended animation thing we do. The term for it isn't so much important as the effect. Until it's pulled out, you won't recover. It won't turn you to ash. And on some level, some deeper level you'll be aware of heartbeats there. But you won't be able to act."

"The sun. If we're well-fed, we can travel out in it. But if we're not, then we itch. At first. Then we'll start to smoke. Then we'll catch literally on fire and burn up very fast."

He then after a moment told them the rules all vampires lived by.

"Don't tell non-vampires what you are. it breaks the golden rule of, they don't think we really exist. it also tends to piss older vampires off."

"Your home is your domain, inside it all others owe you respect, and they cannot challenge your word while in it."

"If you want to make another vampire, you need the prince's permission, or you and your new child can be killed."

"When you make a child, you're responsible for their actions. If they fuck up, you fuck up. until you release them to be their own vampire."

"when moving into a new city, find the prince and introduce yourself. if he doesn't accept you being there, you can't be there."

"Don't kill another vampire. Only a prince can call a hunt on any of us, and term us to be destroyed."

Jason listened to all of this with wrapped attention. A month ago he would have tried to record it ot be furiously scribbling down notes so that he could recount the details on his podcast. He knew now that the implications of him sharing this information were far more serious. Had Aiden known about his hobby he probably wouldn’t be sitting here alive right now. He’d imagined Aiden’s task of getting the Prince to overlook his slip would be that much harder if it resulted in someone publishing detailed accounts of what Jason had learned.

He was surprised, however, just how close the lore was to reality. Clearly many along the way had broken the rules and shared information to form such an accurate picture of their world.

Jason made a mental note to go back over all the safeguards he put in place to protect Lacey’s anonymity on her blog. There could be no slip ups regarding security on that if they aimed to stay alive.

In all though, Aiden pretty succinctly let them know what they needed to know and Jason was glad he’d tracked her down. It would definitely make things easier going forward.

After a moment he watched her then, then her and Jason. Both. Watching the way she was leaned into his side there. "I hope I'll hear from you before the week is out." As he took a piece of paper with his details on it out of a pocket and passed it to Lacey.

Lacey took it folded it and stuck it in her bra. "Sure, I can ring you some night. If it's a bad time when I do, just don't answer."

Aidan laughed softly then even as he rose to stand. Offering his hand to Jason first he shook the man's hand softly, then Lacey's. "Be well you too. I know Jason, you are likely to think me horrible. I wouldn't blame you. Your Lacey has a different take on you, which seems to have done nothing but serve her well. I appreciate you've been helpful to her and are with her. Even if, I'll not breathe a word of your existence while things are the way they are." meaning while ever Jason wasn't sipping on Lacey's blood.

He saw himself out then, and only then when that door shut. Did Lacey finally relax. "...that was ... that was something... bit worried bout those rules, but... at least he didn't up and kill us..." She then flung arms about Jason and held him tightly.

"Yeah, getting killed would have been a bad outcome." Jason said as he held her there. "He seemed like a fun guy. I can see why you were drawn to him." he added with a laugh.

Jason knew he was probably far more charming when hunting for prey but he couldn't resist the opportunity to lighten the mood a little.

"Knowing what we know now we need to be far more careful than we've been though. The luxury of being under the radar is definitely gone."

"You are right. Do you know computer wise what to do?" Lacey asked. It went over her head completely.

Leaning over she gave him a kiss softly and then looked into his eyes.

"I don't think he'd let others hurt me. Or you. If he wanted us gone. We'd be gone." She did however then hear her phone ding.

Lifting it up she saw it was a bank notification. Swiping it she logged in and then he might notice her staring at the screen.

Lacey just passed him her phone to see two transactions. One for $750,000 from Aidan O'Niell and the other from some corporation. For a couple of million.

Even as Jason read it and probably reread it. A text flashed up. ~Lacey as my child I owe you something to help you. Because you didn't ask for this. Every month I'll send more. It's the least I can do for you My daughter. Aidan~.

"Well I guess that simplifies things." Jason said looking at the deposits made to Lacey's account. "As much as people are clamoring for your posts we should probably shut it down. I'll set it to sunset when the current subscriptions expire then we can take it down."

When he thought about it, Aiden giving Lacey the money made a lot of sense. Obviously living that long you'd accumulate a lot of wealth if you tried and they could hardly afford for someone strapped for cash to do exactly what Lacey had done which was sell access to the secrets of their world in order to make ends meet.

"At least they take care of their own." he said after another long pause looking at her balance.

"...sounds more than good. I'm not touching it anymore. We don't need that falling on our head." Lacey murmurs seeking to lean into Jason's side there.

"I'm a little surprised about it. But also a little grateful." As she looks into those eyes of his. "We can be conservative about it all and easily, get by for a while."

Of course, she wasn't aware that Aidan would again transfer her money in a month's time. Since he'd never yet made a child, Lacey had turned into his one and only. "Buy maybe we spoil our self? What's a purchase you think we really really could do for?"

"Yes, between the bar doing well and this we should be able to live comfortably. If we made some smart investments along the way it could become quite substantial."

He thought for a moment about her question about a purchase. The obvious answers of a flashy car or other luxuries seemed a little over the top at the moment. They were already in the process of moving into a rather opulent penthouse apartment.

Jason wrapped his arm around her pulling her tighter into his side. "Maybe we could buy you a ring." he finally said softly. Though it seemed soon they'd already contemplated a near eternal life with her so perhaps a ring wouldn't be that big a stretch.

"Nothing too over the top," Lacey murmurs seriously to him. "Isn't like $1500 odd respectable for it? Or aren't there those eternity sets? Which ... plan for a future. Having an engagement ring, wedding ring and, eternity ring.."

He'd brought it up and she thought that perhaps was a better way to do it. "Pretty sure in magazines for jewellery places I've seen those at times for $2500, and for three rings which mean .... something special... that seems okay?"

Those eyes bright as she looks to him there.

Jason couldn't help but be a little amused at how Lacey was so concerned about the cost after having nearly $3M land in her bank account.

"I think whatever you'd like will be ok with me. In the end, what it represents is far more important than what it costs. Neither of us seem to be all to concerned with being flashy so whatever speaks to you."

After he'd mentioned the ring it occurred to him that his suggestion might have been far to casual and he was relieved that it didn't seem to bother her. It wasn't something he'd planned. If he had he might have made a grander gesture but it just felt right in the moment.

Even as perhaps he was thinking. Lacey lent in and kissed him softly. "I think what it means will sink in far more when your putting it on my finger and I totally have one of those girl moments of, I'm engaged and he loves me..."

"Its not like I'm a normal girl. The moment I worked out this was forever I worried once I knew you loved me that maybe some hot chick would steal you cause she could give you kids.." A light smile.

Having kids wasn’t something Jason put a lot of thought into and likelihood that Lacey wasn’t having kids never really entered Jason’s mind until she’d mentioned it just then.

“No, I think you’re safe there.” He said playfully. “Doesn’t stop me from trying to get you pregnant….. a lot.”

a brief moment passed as they playfully hugged. “So what do you think about what he said about me drinking from you. How would that work?”

Soft laughter as he joked about the amount of sex they had. She was glad that he had. Hugging him back.

When he turned the conversation more serious. "I think I'd just need to slightly prick somewhere and you'd suck it."

Curious she let those fangs drop than brought a fingertip up and poked it hard on that fangs. By the time she lowered it down to look it healed. Licking the drop off those brows furrowed. "I think I heal quick..."

Lifting her wrist she bit hard down and pulled back. Watching the dots heal quick. Licking the dots of blood up she peers at him. "I guess there's ways to work it out. But I wouldn't think it would be an appealing thought."

Jason watched as Lacey pricked her finger first then her wrist. He was amazed at how quickly the wounds covered over but it made sense if she was able to quickly heal other's wounds once she fed.

When she said she didn't think it would be an appealing thought it sounded like she might be leaning towards not wanting him to drink from her. It was clearly her decision to make but, having spent the bulk of his life fascinated with her kind, feeling even a small portion of what it was like couldn't be more appealing to him. He didn't intend to press it though. That's a decision she should come to in her own time.

"Well, something to keep in mind as an option if you choose." he said not wanting to press the subject.

"But I want to know your thoughts. Really know them. Do you want this? To be with me that way? Do you think you could try it?"

Sure it was two questions to answer. But it was also his thoughts on it. "I really want to know."
