Everybody on this forum has heard of them and has cursed and reviled them, and expressed hated of them and everything they stand for. I know I have. However, you cetainly don't consider them to be Christians, do you? They are about as unChristian as any American I can think of.

And suggesting Christians in the context discussed are embodied by Phelps is about as sensible as suggesting homosexuals are embodied by men that like molesting little boys... and if there is a God, in any meaningful sense, I doubt you're likely do do much to him.

But it's a fine line, that infinitesimal one. What Phelps is saying is that everything bad that happens, is God's punishment for that we allow gays to exist.

On the other hand, the much more widely accepted Jerry Falwell said pretty much the same thing about 9/11. Just a little more politely than Phelps.

True, they fight homosexuals. Like I said, it's much easier to demonize a group when people don't know that group. They want homosexuals to be invisible. If, when people hear homosexual, they think deviants in a bath house, it's easier to get those people to hate homosexuals and support restrictions. If, when people hear homosexual, they think of the nice family that lives across the street, those people are much less likely to support other restrictions. The more accepted homosexuals are in society, the more threatened social conservatives feel.
