Accents marks in Ms Works

you need to select a special charactor

theres a dropdown button on the top bar

its either an ampersand &
or a pilcrow sign ¶
possibly a hash #
should be on the farright of the bar

I use openoffice so I'm just working off memory on this one

You can use the Character Map in Windows. It's under Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools.

Find the accented letter you want, click on it, hit the copy button, and then Paste or Ctrl+V in your word Doc. Alternately, you can type in the code that shows in the corner of the character map window.

I don't know why, but the codes don't work on my laptop...maybe Harold or someone will be along to tell me why. :D

Oh, man, I never would have thought of that! You're right, it works perfectly though! :nana:

Thanks, SS! It doesn't work on Lit for some reason (it triggers a search  ), but it's fine in my email and Word, of course.

I only noticed it because on a PC I had to work on numlock was off by default
and I was trying to input a pilcrow
so I turned on numlock thinking nothing of it
then I looked at my laptop and went: hmm...

Erika, I know for a fact that Lit used to be capable of accepting the character codes as I would occasionally use the Alt + 130 to finish off the word "touche" with the correctly accented e. Somehow that feature disappeared at some point, perhaps when the site went through one update or another. Personally I find it a disappointment to not be able to spell words correctly but c'est la vie.

How do I give a letter an accent mark in Ms Word?

In MS Word, to get a letter with an accent mark I click on Insert, then Symbol, then select Normal Text, and find the letter / accent mark I want there. I didn't know there were so many other ways to do it. You learn something new every day.

Touché.

Works for me. I used Alt + 0233.

Are you using Firefox? I wouldn't be surprised if it works in some browsers and not others.
