Accupuncture and Chinese herbs

OK, so recently I went to the GP because my period was happening way too often, and the GP told me accupuncture could help. The accupuncurist was also a Chinese herbalist. So, she did accupuncture to help to delay my period, and gave me a herbal powder to drink every morning and night to help to boost my immune system (I had been getting swollen glands a lot).

So, the delaying of the period worked - it went from every 2 weeks to a 6 week gap. The immune system boost worked - I haven't had swollen glands since.

However, I had an unexpected sideaffect. I got uncontrollably horny. How can I explain it? It didn't feel like I wanted to have sex. It felt like I was in the middle of having sex! And as a result, nothing I could do 'worked' to ease the feeling. (I currently don't have a man in my life, so it was all me trying to scratch the itch.)

I participate in martial arts and am the only woman in a couple of the clubs, and it was so hard to keep my mind out of the gutter while wrestling the guys! I kept having dirty thoughts about being so aroused that they could probably smell me... Anyway, I managed to hold back on molesting any of my friends :D (just) - lucky for their wives and girlfriends, and for themselves too probably!

This phase lasted for about 3 or 4 weeks. Then it went away for about 2 or 3 weeks, and now it's back.

So I guess my question would be - have any of you heard of this being a sideaffect of accupuncture or chinese herbs? And have any of you experienced this sort of unrelenting arousal??? And what can I do to relieve it? I mean, arousal is good, but not ALL THE TIME!!!

And people say that Eastern medicine is all smoke and mirrors....

You sound like a lucky lucky gal (even if you're a tortured one). Perhaps you should go ahead and act on these physical changes....maybe nailing one of your martial arts buddies, or another available guy, isn't such a bad idea;)

Anyways, i think it's worth asking the acupuncturist/herbalist. I've asked my doctors way more embarrassing questions. They'll either know what you're talking about or at least get a kick out of it (no martial arts pun intended).

Ask the therapist, though initially being a treatment for hormonal based conditions, it is likely there may be little can be done except to find a way to scratch that itch. I know years ago I was teaching myself reflexology and my friend offered to be a guinea pig for me. LOL, she lived to regret it as she was divorced and trying to be a good girl and as she was complaining of hormonal issues, I massaged the hand in the area which was said to deal with the female reproductive system.

I didn't mention that was the exact area of her body it was linked to and in her naivety about such therapies she assumed it was massage to relieve the issues without realising that would mean working on the female sex organs. She phoned me the following night to ask if I had done anything 'strange' to her as she had been climbing the walls all day and nothing would relieve it. Seems it continued for a few weeks and she never held out her hand again for me to experiment with, though she did admit she had never felt so good. :D

Its called "The placebo effect". Read up on it at www.quackwatch.org

You and i have already had this "discussion." Let's agree to disagree, shall we? Nobody's forcing you to get acupuncture, or to believe in it. People do what works for their bodies/minds and don't need to be judged by you, Bob. Her GP recommended it, for christ's sake.

I have been doing acupuncture and on occassion chinese herbs on and off for the past 5 years. I have never had such a side effect :(

For those of you who think Chinese medicine and other healing arts do not work, you obviously haven't tried them. Make your own decision on this. I am an acupressurist, and I became one because of so much success with acupuncture, acupressure and herbs. Must be a really, really, really strong placebo to work for 5000 years.

Anyway, Cakewalk, I have heard things like this before, and have worked with some people getting similar results. I knew a woman who could not get pregnant, had acupuncture for a few cycles, and was absolutely all over her husband, conceiving shortly afterward. All good healing arts do, including acupuncture, is create a balance.

So the acupunctures stimulated your chi to swing the homeostasis pendulum to the other side, to use a bad analogy. It will all balance out. You did not get that way overnight, so you won't get better overnight.

I have had times in my life with too much exercise, not enough rest, and that decreased my libido, and in Chinese medicine, that is the depleted kidney chi. Once I got enough rest, water, vitamins, minerals, I was very horny. I think horninest is a good sign of health.

One sign of cautiion though, a lot of imported Chinese herbs have drug contaminants. You may have taken a batch with testosterone or pharmeceutical testosterone stimulants. That is probably the only thing that concerns me.

That and I wasn't in your martial arts class.

if im bothered by libido at innappropriate times, i think of peeling potatoes. You could try this? But i think to make contact with your martial arts friends is a much nicer solution.
