Yum. :D

Yeah, my daughters hamster is cute, too. And smelly and unfriendly. Plus her wheel squeeks. I should have insisted on getting another rat - at least they have personality.

Ok, a cute rat story. True, too.

My best friend one day brought home a rat. She'd rescued him from a snakes cage, where he'd been living for the last six months. His name was lucky. My mom's rat had just died, so I gave her lucky. She renamed him Einstein, cause he's not lucky he's smart. The issue? Einstein has PTSD. He won't leave his cage, and really freaks out when you pull him out. (Cleaning his cage is FUN!) My mom was looking for a pet like Priscilla (her other rat). Pris was allowed out of her cage in the evenings and she would sit on Mom's shoulder and stuff. It was really cute. So now my sister owns him, cause he's a perfect pet for her.

Ok, I don't know if you all know this but hamsters LOVE blueberries!

I put the lid from a small container in there with em and it had a baby carrot, bit of broccoli, bit of cauliflower, a blackberry and a blueberry. Just seeing what they would like and dammit if they both didn't eventually come out of their lil warm burrow and pounce on that blueberry like gracie on a cookie.

Sooo cute too, one of em licked my fingertip thru the cage wires.

My old rat, who died a while ago, loved marshmallows. She'd snatch them so quick she'd nip your fingers if you weren't careful. And Pris, my mom's old rat, LOVED peppermint. Once she got a peppermint that was on my mom's desk and when mom tried to take it from her she GROWLED at mom.

I dunno about feeding them candy, wouldn't want to give em tiny lil heart attacks.

Rats are scavengers. I wouldn't give candy to hamsters, they're herbivores. With Kitty I only gave her one tiny marshmallow a day. And she was a skinny when she died as she was when I got her. (She was such a pretty rat, exercised every day, etc.)

Of course with Kitty she'd had a litter, and was healthier because of that.

They gave up on the blueberry but I'll be damned if they didn't disappear that piece of broccoli!! The even left the carrot and cauliflower.
