1. I don't have Century Schoolbook, and I have a LOT of fonts. I have Century Gothic. Must go out and buy another set of fonts just for this?

No, you do not need to buy another set of fonts.

Yes, you must convert. It's rather simple: 3/8" = 0.375 first line indents on paragraphs.

But really, it's not necessary to do all this work until your stories have been vetted (received 10 endorsements from AHers). Lit score/voting is irrelevant in terms of the anthology.

OK, I figured that out. However, MSWord automatically rounds everything up so .375 becomes .38.

But I have another couple of questions:

1. I have spaces between some of my paragraphs to signify a shift to a different time. Can they stay?
2. What is meant by center seam? Is that what MSWord calls the gutter?

just curious- we did chose a free-speech organization right? Are they promoting the book on their site? Does the book (series) have a site of it's own (such as a free geocities site?) Will we know how much money we have raised for them? ect, ect.

Re Amazon (and other booksellers): Not until we get the ISSN (which is still *sigh* pending). We will then be in the Library of Congress' database and any bookseller can stock us.

Re earnings: I will post a sales report each time CafePress mails out commission checks.

The series does not have a site of its own (beyond the CafePress site), nor am I inclined to develop one UNLESS a domain is purchased (ComingTogether.org, anyone?). Those free hosts are a pain in the ass -- and look cheap/unprofessional.

Anyone who has a site (or a Yahoo!Group or whatever) can post the link to CafePress, and I can e-mail a thumbnail image of the cover for use as well.

Imp: One thing which I was thinking of - what if we used some of the profits to publicise the book? Buy a web domain and maybe even buy an advertising slot on Lit. I think we'd make more than we spent and, if we're going to sell a book, we may as well do the job properly.

We've earned $26 from CafePress thus far -- but it won't be released to us (me, actually) until after the 30-day return period has passed and then in increments, I believe, of $25. I'll have to pay taxes on the income, which (if it gets to be significant) I'll deduct. The rest can either be donated or invested in promotion with an eye to increase sales.

I use DomainAvenue.com for the sites I manage. It's $35/year with lots of goodies included. I don't have the time/energy to maintain another site, though.

The consensus of the participants will have to determine our approach. I'm not making unilateral decisions when money is involved -- especially regarding what I feel is other people's money.

The idea of a site and advertising could be a good one, espcially if there will be plenty of volumes to come.
$35 a year isn't a bad cost for that, especially if helped generate sales. The biggest problem I see would be who would create and maintain the site, and whether all decisions for the site would have to be approved by authors who contribute, or if nearly total control for the site could be handed over to someone.

Spaces between some paragraphs can certainly stay.

MS Word seemes to be rounding to 0.38" but the actual result on the page will still be 0.375" if you tell the program that when you set up the page template. It does change the number in the little box, there; and I found that very disturbing at first, but it really will follow its orders just the same.

That's good to know, as I did specify 0.375.

Well, I'd have to put this to my hubby, but if we can get the dosh to buy a domain name, I'm sure my husband would happily do a small site dedicated to the books. We're looking at just say, a page for each volume, a page on the free speech charity thing and a links page? Something like that? If people will help write content, My husband (I say this tentatively as I've not asked yet) I'm sure will put it all together for us...he's good like that. Now, I'll have to get him to see how much the domain name will be (they're usually no more than £10, but I think thats for co.uk, if we want a .com it'd be more expensive) but hubby is a professional website designer, so if we think it's a good idea I can ask himthen he'd create it and between him and I we'd manage it (it wouldn't take much managing, just the volume updates really)

I was over at the CafePress shop to look at the book and stuff. I finally am about to see some money so I thought I was going to order a copy, and I noticed that I couldn't find anything there promoting the non-profit idea behiund it. I think that mentioning that the profit goes to a free speech organisation is a good selling argument. If we could insert, somewhere on that page a little disclaimer that all revenues goes to A Good And Holy Cause. I think that would be nice.
