AI A New Era 2023 - 11010101

1 more day!

Okay, fact check for y'all into cinema:
Came across this video which fortunately let you know it was written by AI. AI = bullshit, so then I went to see what movie all the clips actually came from, Metropolis it looks like. Which I've never seen. So, enjoy this big reveal of our own upcoming, real life...AI Era!

AI Video:
It's a pointless set of slow zooms into AI rendered, vaguely looks like, stills from M with Peter Lorre and Metropolis, both by Fritz Lang. I can't see the point - it's not telling a story, it's not even truly derivative. It sorta kinda "knows" that I Robot is about robots, so there's a bad copy of some stills from that movie. I really hope no-one was paid money to generate that.

I am not gonna get mine done gang. I know I have a month left, but I'm just not happy with the plot. I will back burner this and mentally chew on it, until next year.

I know how you feel, Rob. Have a draft story from a couple of years ago that is probably not salvageable. Since I'm organizing this, had to get something in, so modified a different story draft and shoe-horned it in.

Another new story was posted!

AI Era: The C Word
A wife's lover taunts her husband.

I haven't attempted to read all the posts in here, but I found this article and posted it on another forum. I'm trying to wrap my head around it.

ā€˜Itā€™s destroyed me completelyā€™: Kenyan moderators decry toll of training of AI models

So if I get this straight, African people are being paid less than $4 per hour, by an American company working for another American company, to "filter out" sexually explicit materials from - something.

https://www.sama.com/

https://openai.com/

And then there is the "dark side." This is pure speculation about, say Sama, but what is stopping them, with their other hand, from providing sexually explicit materials to other entities (call them pornographers?) who want to filter in such materials? Cover both angles with different customers, in other words.

As the Kenyans interviewed revealed, "The 51 moderators in Nairobi working on Samaā€™s OpenAI account were tasked with reviewing texts, and some images, many depicting graphic scenes of violence, self-harm, murder, rape, necrophilia, child abuse, bestiality and incest, the petitioners say." By the way, much of this material was lifted from chat room dialogue from various sources.

AI Video:
The actor portrayed there seems to be Peter Lorre, who was not in Metropolis. It was directed by Fritz Lang. It seems that many of the images in there are not from the movie.

So what is the point of this thing? It's like a trailer for a movie that doesn't exist yet, and may never exist.

It's a slideshow of AI created images in the style of 30s movies mashing together Metropolis and Bladerunner.

There's no point other than the person who created it thought it'd be interesting to make.

It appears to be a three-and a-half minute stunt created by a site called Views of an AI, which went online this March. I'm not sure you runs it, but there is an image - an avatar, let's call it - of a woman with a shaved head.

The visuals of that clip are entirely still photographs (or scans?), and many are not from the Metropolis movie. There is no attempt at animation. The narration is a mish-mash of themes from Metropolis and Blade Runner, although it's grammatically correct I think.

So perhaps it goes a bit beyond what I thought AI was capable of technically. Otherwise the results are just so-so. Yet at least one commentator wanted to see entire movies made that way. We're not there yet, but I could foresee that happening (by 2035? 2040? ). And maybe 80% of the audience will be happy with it. "Give us our entertainment. I don't care who or what created it." Barbie IV may not be made by Greta Gerwig, but by computers.

By the way, considering the amount of money coming in, there will be a Barbie film franchise.

It's entirely AI. ChatGPT (for the prompts and narration script), Eleven Labs (for the narration), and Midjourney (for the images).

I've got the plot back on track (after a late night epiphany) but finishing it in eighteen days is unlikely. I'll give it a go in any case, just because it's a very cool idea.

I submitted a story last week, but it looks like it got incorrectly flagged as being written by AI (along with plenty of my already published stories), so it got sent back. I resubmitted it, but it'll likely be a while before it's published.
This is simultaneously terrifying and a very big LOL. The name is "AI Era: Blessing and Bane" and deals with the downsides of AI tools, and it looks like it became a victim of a false positive from an AI tool.
