Ai A New Era

I'm interested in this. Is the AI image something GAN-generated? I've been using the term "GAN" for about a year now because of something a friend told me (agh!) and just for the first time got half an inkling of what it really is by reading Bramblethorn's excellent Loss Function.

I aim to keep my porn educational!

I wasn't sure, so I looked it up and, yes, thispersondoesnotexist.com uses an algorithm that's been trained via a GAN neural network. I found an article about the method:

Each face generated when you refresh the website is completely original and will never be generated again. I think it's pretty fascinating.

Some others in a similar vein:

I've had a lot of fun playing with VQGAN+CLIP, which uses GANs to generate art from prompts:

Awesome links! The cats are adorable. The first rental I got was completely messed up, but the next were fairly convincing.

I am going to shared the GAN art generation thing with my mom because she was just making AI art last week and would be very interested in other approaches. I'm more of a hardware girl than software (which is why my story focused more on hardware).

Not exactly last minute, but much later than I'd hoped to submit, but it's in. "AI Era: Bots are People Too" has just been submitted. Hopefully it won't take too long to work its way through the process.

Now I can go read the other entries! Spike of work and such meant what free time had to be on this story, as well as the beginnings of my Winter Holiday entry. It all meant I had to give Halloween a pass.

I need to write faster. I need one of Nada's bots.

I've very much enjoyed yours (& everyone else's) discussions & thoughts on AI! It's been a privilege to organize this event. If y'all would like to do it again, would be happy to facilitate. If a different range of dates would be better, please suggest!

Side note: I submitted a "story" which lists various stories that predated the event; it's incomplete--started with grabbing posted stories here in these threads. If it's allowed to be published, will let y'all know. If it's published & there is a story that someone feels should be added to the list, let me know & I'll do an annual "edit" update to the post.

Strongly in favor of a repeat of this. Thank you!

Well, I never enter the April Fool’s contest, so overlapping with that instead of Halloween would be preferable to me :D

But I won’t actually blame this event for my failure to submit for Halloween. Truth is, I only had a couple of sorta kinda Halloween ideas but nothing firm. Where I have solid ideas, I could’ve managed my time in a better way to do both. All in all though, my second vote would be to keep the timing as this year, since Halloween isn’t actually something I aim for every year.
