Aine - A New RP Thread (OOC)

Yes well they could try however they wouldnt get very far *smile* thanks for the tips though.

Im actually in Australia, Im guessing most people on here are from the US.

BTW what does the O in ORP stand for? im guessing RP is role play but the o has me stumped. Of course once you mention what it is it will be glaringly obvious and I will feel a fool for asking *laugh*

ORP stands for Online Role Playing. SRP stands for Sexual Role Playing. You'll see these abbreviations every so often.

You're the third person that I know of here in the ORP that's from Austrailia. Wolfsister, the brains behind the Illusion Vale RP, and Angelus are both from Austrailia. They're both regulars here, but they've been a little scarce the past few days.

And you are most welcome for the tips. Have fun here in the Online Role Playing Forum. :D

Yay! Sorceress Karesh of Ain!

Character Name: Karesh
Race: Half-Elf
Gender: Female
Height: 5'9" (not as tall as full blood elves due to mixed blood)
Description: Long wavy ebony black hair, deep green eyes and smooth fairish skin. tall and lithe but well muscled.
Personality: Bluntly honest, forthright, witty and intelligent.
Profession: Sorceress
Weapons: Magick, Familiar (not decided which animal yet) 1 Scimitar is necessary
Specialty: War Magick, animal control, acting eg: lulling others into a false sense of security, getting things and information the easy way :) there is a word for that ability however I cant think of it so acting will need to suffice :)
Weakness: Not very good at close range battle as only slightly stronger than average

History: Parents were a magickally powerful elf Mother and a Knight Father. taken from home at a young age to be raised in the Magick Temples (you didnt mention this but maybe as the knights are trained war mages etc could be trained??). Particularly strong in elemental magick but can perform all types very well. When Ain was taken Karesh did what she could but was smuggled out of the city along with other key defenders politicians etc to meet up with the Princess once it was realised she was not in the city and plan the retaking of Ain.

What do you think? Yes? No? :)

Love it! Sounds great! Welcome to Lit (I can say that now, 'cause I've posted enough times I get a cool avatar, even if I DID only join a couple weeks ago :D), and welcome to Ain! :D

No half man half beasts for you ren! Well maybe just one.

As for Lits population we are probably 50% states and 50% other places. We actually have sizable European and Canadian populations.

I really like this idea. I think that the best place to a would be either as a separate nation on whom the Aine call for help, or as a very small minority within Ain itself, perhaps dwellers of the forest in which the last unharmed village lies. Either scenario would allow the Tolen to maintain their mystique, which seems essential to their character as a race. It seems that these would be the wise ones whom no one quite understands but everyone respects and even fears a little for their strange ways.

It would also be interesting to see how the Tolen approached the situation with the Talarines if they had no loss from it themselves. They seem the sort who would listen patiently while the princess told of their plight, and then say, "So what? If you want anything from me, you had better have something to offer me." Even then, being the deceivers they are, they might possibly play both sides.

Of course this is all just speculation, and what each character does is up to the one who plays him. The only thing I think we must determine is the place of the Tolen within the political structure. To what nation do they belong, and if it is other than Ain, what is their kingdom's relationship with Ain? Additionally, how are they viewed by the Aine?

A note on the Tolen magic. The Tolen are efficient spell casters, not the most powerful, but definitely the ones with the most endurance.

I am going for a exiled Royalty sort of feel personally. At no point have enough Tolen existed to form a nation. Only 200 to 500 exist in the world, is what I am thinking. So there may be a small town or two but really they are scattered and act like normal people. Of coarse people still respect their power even if they are seen as false gods and in a few cases Tyrants.

Seeing the number of females in the story I am thinking of reworking the character into a male Tolen. How ever I was picturing an older Tolen who looks to be a 16 year old human. She is married to a formally wealthy merchant of the village. While she appears 16 he readily looks 50+ years old. It was an arranged marriage.

Riada = huh?

may i use my everpresent riada?

I don't understand quite what you mean by riada. It was my impression that "riada" meant "road," which, I take it, is definitely not what you mean.

If you could correct my shameful ignorance, I might be better able to answer your question. :D

I like this idea. I think that it would be important to keep the population low in order to maintain the mystique that surrounds them. Also, it's vital that the other Aine see the individual Tolen as someone strange, otherworldly, and powerful. Watching a girl remain exactly the same over the course of many years might do the trick. However, if she has only lately reached the area and/or married the old bloke, I'm not certain the others would take her very seriously without a show of her power or proof that she is indeed Tolen. (I imagine their bards would have stories of the ancient race of the Tolen, so they would have heard of them; however, it is not so certain that they would recognise one on sight.)

When you first told me of this race, I immediately thought of a Merlinesque wanderer, only without a national loyalty. A wise old mage, perhaps, who cannot be bothered with the trifling affairs of politics and war-- basically, an unknown quantity that is respected and even feared, who plays on his own terms.

However, just because this thought crossed my mind does not mean it is the best configuration. Your idea of a young-looking woman would perhaps be better. It would be interesting to see this Tolen bride's relationship with her (presumably lesser) husband, and how she interacted with the people of her village. Putting her directly into the daily life of Ain gives her a personal stake in the war, as presumably her quality of life would be much reduced under Talarian rule. This might motivate her to help the Aine to overthrow their captors.

I am very interested to see what you will come up with. The Tolen seem a fascinating race, and I do not doubt that your Tolen character will play an important role in the retaking of Ain.

Maiden

The Riada are a race that he created. Warriors of a sort, almost like the Talarians, except more intelligent, I think. Ren is actually quite fond of the Riada. Seeing as how he's of Irish decent, and that he has displayed admiration and fondness towards Irish culture, I'm thinking the Riada are based on the Celtic culture. Of course, most of this is speculation on my part. I'm not sure if I'm right or not.

Riada (Thanks, Jedi!)

Thanks for clueing me in, Jedi. I'm pretty sure "riada" as meaning "road" is old Celtic... maybe Gaelic, but I'm pretty sure it's Celtic.

And Ren: if you list the specs of your character, I don't see why you could not have one of this "Riada" race. I look forward to learning more about it. :)

Questing Maiden:

I love your RP idea! I just absolutely love it. You've obviously thought about this a great deal and I know just exactly what that takes, so you have my hat. Erm... well, If I had a hat I'd give it to you :D

As for taking a part, I'd love to, but my schedule is kinda... fluctuating (yeah... that's the word...) so I won't drag you down. But I'm definitely interested!

I'm sure to follow this one :D

Thanks for the encouragement, Wolfsister! You have quite a presence here-- as I was browsing around I kept seeing others mention your name. :) I'm honoured that you noticed my thread.

If you want to, you might play a character who doesn't appear often. I understand that sometimes even that could be a stretch-- I'm no stranger to busy schedules!

Either way, thanks for the notice. :)

Welcome to the RP secton Maiden.

I will consider, but I probably have one of the most hellish and unpredictable schedules of anyone in this section so I won't promise anything.

Besides, it wouldn't be fair if I joined a new RP while neglecting my own.

But I'll be reading. :)

I shall definitely think more on it. Perhaps something like a 'higher' being that helps out in a sort of way? Hmmmm... *thinks*

Anyway, I'm not well at the moment, so I won't commit.

Thanks for the compliment, I've never had somebody tell me I've a presence. I just do my thing here on Lit. Illusion Vale has to be the only real contribution I have though, so thank you :D

Hmmm... that celestial idea gives me an idea... hrrrmm.... (would that be possible?)

the riada are between 6 and 7 feet tall, fair skinned. they have many different hair colors, they posess wolflike fangs and horns that are swept back over their heads. they are very strong, though probably not as brute as the talarians, and they are extremely hardy. however they cannot do any magic aside from druidic. They are very fond of drink, food, music and dance, and they like a good fight. They worship several gods.

Thanks! :) I'm still amazed at how many Lit RP legends have responded to this thread. I'm excited to see how the RP itself will turn out!

A higher being sounds good... an immortal, perhaps, who stirs about in mortals' affairs... perhaps more of an Athena than a Prometheus, though...

Well, let me know what you decide! :)

As to anyone else sitting on the fence, this offer stands open to anyone: you needn't be able to post every day or every week to be involved in this story. We need as many characters as possible, so even playing a villager who doesn't appear often would be fine. Wolfsister has dibs on the "higher power" bit if she wants it, though.

Also, if anyone is interested in playing more than one character, I'm definitely open to suggestions. I'd like to see as many characters as we can get join this story, to keep it interesting and complex.

And if you have an idea for a character you're not able to play, or are interested in joining but can't think of a character-- post!! Ideas are always welcome! :)

Well, I'm certainly thinking about it! I'll come up with something and I'll PM you shortly. After all, I'll need some background info (some more!) should I be 'manipulating' mere mortals! :D

I will try and get my character up soon. As the need or desire strikes me I will make more characters if thats your preference.

Character Count So Far

Well, I'm certainly thinking about it! I'll come up with something and I'll PM you shortly. After all, I'll need some background info (some more!) should I be 'manipulating' mere mortals! :D

Whenever you are ready is fine. :) I'm very glad that this thread has generated some interest-- as it is my first RP thread, I was not certain what to expect in terms of responses. So far I'm well pleased.

To any "lurkers" who are considering joining (and also those who are not :)), you are very welcome here! We need as many characters as possible, as this story has by its nature a rather large scope. Nearly any sort of character is permitted, so this should be a good creative outlet as well as fun.

So far, the character count is this:
a Princess, name not yet chosen (yours truly :D)
a Sorceress, Karesh (Kalika)
a nameless Elf (Jedi Khan)
a (still morphing) Tolen (Cats)
possibly a goddess type (Wolfsister)
and possibly a Riada (Renegade Irishman)

Thanks to all who have posted and to those who "lurk"-- the more reads, the more likely my thread is to get noticed by people who may join. (Honestly, "lurking" has such a negative connotation... "silent spectators" might be a better phrase... I'm glad to have people read my thread; I don't understand the people who throw fits over it. But enough of that.)

Apologies!

You are absolutely right, Kalika-- I apologise for the mistake. I don't know where I got the idea she was a knight lol... I had her listed as that above too. But I've edited both posts now. Thanks for pointing out my error!

If I have made or later make (as I'm sure I shall) other mistakes, please let me know then, too... as that stupid MSN advert says, "No-one wants to look dumb"!

Thanks and apologies,

Hey, QM, I think there are enough people signed up now for you to start the story, if you want to.

If you have room for one more I was wondering if I could join this thread of yours.

I have a bio for a character: (if you'll have me that is)

Name: Sebastian (has long since forgotten what his true name is)
Race: Vampire
Alignment: Neutral but leaning towards good
Age: Has long forgotten how old he is (but it is in the centuries)
Eyes: Grey eyes
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 170lbs
Hair: Very long silver hair
Weapons: Very old sword

History: Sebastian has forgotten how old he is exactly but can remember a time when the Aines were not the rulers of the lands. He does not need to drink blood anymore and can spend long spells in the sun. Likes to spend time alone, wandering through the world and not involve himself in the concerns of the other races. He will give advice to anyone who seeks him out but hates to get involved. Will help when needed though.
