Aine - A New RP Thread (OOC)

Well, I read through the thread and I enjoyed what I've seen, so I hope I can join in the fun.

I only have a few questions: I'm quite fond of a character I've been working on for some time, but I fear it may not be very in-line with the mainstream of this story.

I'll leave here a short synopsis and wait for some feedback.

This caracter is from a human sub-species, called Athalans. From Athal or Athalyin.

Although humans (they get old, get sick and die as any other man or woman) Athalans differ from the human stock by being bigger, stronger and have a much larger lifespan (between 350 and 500 years). Athlans are a very ancient and secluded race, warriors by birth (boys and girls are thaugth to fend for themselves from very young). This as become a tradition because of this saying - Nature holds no mercy to those unprepared.

We could expect this would spawn a war-based civilization, barbarian-like. Well, it is not: Athal as enjoyed millenia of peace and prosperity (although not totally without inside conflicts), much to thank to their general suspition on other races and the geographical isolation of the land (a south-bound peninsula) [in a parallel universe/Earth, they would occupy the Iberian Peninsula totally]. Music, philosophy, arts and crafts and science all have found a place in this civilization, and all have given fruits to it.

Men and women alike can pursue whatever career it may satisfy them.
Structured religion does not exist, but Athalans try to be in balance with nature [this can be seen as a shamanic/somewhat druidic culture]; suspition towards formal religion is very strong. Honor and tradition are social pillars.

Athalans are a very tall and broad race, able to endure both physicall, mental and magical punishment (try to be on yourself by 10 or 12 years old outdoors to prove yourself to your peers and you'll see what that can make of you [ever seen the 300 movie? Yes, that's it!]).

Men vary between 190cm and 225cm (for royal system, plese convert and tell me) and 100kg and 150kg in weigth. Woman are normally between 175cm and 210cm tall and 70kg and 120kg heavy.

My charater is a 107 years old warrior, called Nayil Thandryl. He his a captain in the Athalan army, sent out of the motherland to travel and gather information of the other kingdoms and lands, to keep the Council updated on foreign affairs.

A threat like the Talarines would draw the attention of Athalyn, perhaps getting ready to march to war in many, many, centuries.

If I can join in, please do tell.

I normally have a somewhat daily presence here, so I can be on fast paced RP.

I like your idea, Qyron. And of course, we're always ready for new players, especially now when we're still early in the game.

It appears that this is going to be a very diverse group. Nearly everyone is a different species, and we have many nationalities as well. It will be interesing to see how all this plays out-- the small kingdom of Ain may become the centre of a larger war.

My only question would be how your character would come into contact with the Aine, but I'll trust that you have an idea for that worked out already. I will add you to the character list and look forward to seeing your contribution on the IC thread!

Talarines and Aine

Just a quick note to clear up a matter of vocabulary-- nothing really important, but there's been some confusion about the nationalities of Talaria and Ain.

Talaria's people are the Talarines. One Talarine, two Talarines.
Ain's people are the Aine. One Aine, two Aine.

Weird etymology, I know, but there it is! Let me know if there's any more confusion, or if you notice any mistakes that I make.

I think this RP's going to be awesome once we really get it rolling!

Gaps in Information

Trying to make the char profiles as comprehensive as possible, and I have a couple of questions. If the other characters are not supposed to know something, just let me know, but otherwise, it would be great if you could clear up a few details.

Cats: Does Stephenie have any weapons that we know about?

Angelus: What is Sebastian's profession?

Kalika, Jedi: What weight/body shape do your characters have?

Qyron: Are there any specific strengths or weaknesses attributed to Nayil? Also, can you give a general physical description?

Thanks, guys! And so far, the IC posts are looking pretty good!

Regards,
questing_maiden

As far as weapons go, she may pick up a stick at which point she has a focus for her spells to attack from. Other then that she may summon some sort of item, but I don't think she will.

In general items don't fit the Tolen mind set to well. Fact is they are beings of magic and not of mind or body. So weapons and tactics aren't really a thing for them.

Kalika, Jedi: What weight/body shape do your characters have?

Well she is 5'9, slim but not boyish shaped still has hips breasts etc. about 70kgs..roughly an Australian size 10-12 which probably wont help anyone not from aus....so we will just go with: Weight: 70kgs and Body Shape: Slim but still has curves :)

Ooooh! *shivers* this is sooo exciting!!

QM: As discussed, I'll post when it becomes pertinent to my character. For now, i don't want to do too many 'background posts' as they'd just ruin the surprise :D

Plus I'm not well, so I don't want to drag the RP down by posting and not being able to post again soon.

Ah wolf please post one back story post. I am curious, and want to be tantalized.

Ahhh... tantalising you... I'm not sure that that would be a good thing :D

I'll think about it. I've got to talk to QM a bit more first before I make a post. I think you guys can sufficiently amuse yourselves while I get things prepared :D

The Hunter's post is up. Tell me what you think.

I do hope someone comes along to help him; that head wound is quite bad.

QM: to answer your question, his normal weight would be about 155 lbs, but at the moment he is quite thin do to lack of good food. You could say he's almost emaciated. His body shape, when healthy, is athletic, seeing as how he is a hunter.

I don't think that Sebastian actually has a profession to speak of. He used to be an advisor to a long dead king when he was mortal but I think that he just lives his life now.

Qyron: Are there any specific strengths or weaknesses attributed to Nayil? Also, can you give a general physical description?
questing_maiden

I did hold some information back, as did not knew I would be acceptec in the RP...:)

Please take in consideration I've designed my character in a diferent world set. Using its full set may be too awkward to this world; the world I've been designing lies on a series of personal understandings on mythical creatures/personal beliefs, so it differs a lot from the tradicional interpretation (somewhat...)

Here's a bio/description of my character

Name: Nayil Thandryl
Gender: Male

Specie: Human Subspecie: Athalan

Age: 107 (it looks like an 30' ish old man)
Height: 216cm
Weigth: 135kg
Eyes: brown, with greenish reflexes
Hair: dark brown/black

Alignment: Neutral good
Profession:warrior/hunter/scout/bum? Take a pick. He is not in his homeland.

General Description: Tall and broad, with shoulder-length wavy hair. A cold stare in his eyes, born from years of mental and physical training, as a warrior [warrior, not soldier; Athalans endure a training similar to the Spartan/samurai tradition - a sword without a mind is no more than a nuisance].
Dresses in black, totally, with light boots, and a hooded mantle.

Equipment: backpack, with bed-roll, emergency travel-rations, first-aid kit [don't peek in it! very scary stuff inside!] and a spare change of clothing. And a fire-stone (I won't tell anything more on this for now).

Steels gauntlets around his forearms, heavily engraved and adorned with black gems. A heavy, steel casted necklace, like the gauntlets, with a large black gem set in. [These items are custom-made for each individual, and given when they complet their Trial, a period of life in the wilderness, all alone (about 5 to 8 years). Each Athalan as a set of items like these. It represent the third stage of the training a Athalan endures to earn his/her merit in the Athalan society.] A heavy double-headed axe (Athalan craftmanship) and a long dagger (also). A armor is included in the package (read below and take a guess)

Strengths: Athalans are incredibly resistent and can endure physical, mental and magical punishment; this also makes them extremely healthy individuals. They are also very strong, capable of handling very large weights easily.
Mental and physical discipline makes them very atoned with themselves and Nature. They are as easy in a city as in the wilderness. They have extremely keen senses, but no super-human capabilities (darkvision, etc). However, they are able to harness and focus they're mental/spiritual power to boost they're combat capabilities and a few specialy crafted items of power.

Resume:
- high endurance, mental and physical
- high strength
- Nature balance
- Keen senses
- Mental/spiritual focus

Weaknesses: Although very fond to spirituality (they have no formal religion), Athalans are suspitious of the magic, either arcane or divine. All users of it are met with suspition at first (as any other outsider, non-Athalan), but each individual is given oportunity to prove him/herself. This blocks Athalans of using magic and magical devides and makes them a very little charismatic race towards others. Very, very little!
Bows, crossbows and the likes are not well met in the Athalan way, not being used at all.

Resume:
- very little charisma (very suspitious towards others/kept to himself)
- no magic ability
- no ranged weapons proficiencie

Background: Nayil is a captain of the Athalan army in a mission to gather information on the outside world for the Council, the supreme administrative organ of the Athalyn land.
He as been roaming the outside for a few years, enjoying the time to be with himself and to learn more about everything he encounters. One day, the road just pointed towards Aine. And he walked up it.

I hope this is sufficient to get every in aquaintence with my charater. As soon as I have green-light from QM, I'll join in,

OK Maiden, I posted. Hope its up to snuff and not over the top for you.

Good posts, everybody. I admit I kept going to my email the entyre weekend, on an hourly basis to check for new posts and updates on the RP. :)

QM, I'm afraid I've made a mistake when naming Nayil weapons.
He does have a long dagger and an axe but it is not a two-headed axe. I've mistaken the two-headed (like the typical orc two-headed axe) for the two blade waraxe. Please update this on the charater sheet you have on the IC thread; I will correct this detail on my posts where mencioned.

I will also try to put up a sketch of Nayil weapons (although I can not draw to save my life) for eye candy (yuck!!!) and visualization purposeses. Soon. I promise.

Oh my dear lord...

(The bellow information turned out to be wrong.)

I think q means is he has a quater staff with an axe head on the top and on the bottom.

Actually, I ment for the commonly associate with dwarven lore waraxe - an axe head, with two opposite blades, attached to to a wood or metal handle.
Damn language barriers!!!

I have a mace actually. :D

Wasn't there 2 of them?

I'm no specialist on orcs or goblinoides. Their part in most RP's I play are blade meat. But I enjoyed the Waargriders idea. Haven't seem them for a while...

Okay Q lets get this straight and out in the open. You don't like me and I don't dislike you. But for this thread were going to have to put that behind us and excel, not like microsoft either but like excel that doesn't deal with numbers. The first step here is admiting I am always right.

I am always right.

Isn't truth on the eye of the beholder? Or something like that?...

And who said I dislike you? I haven't even had the chance to get to know you properly. I save my disliking for those I truly know.

Come on Q, pay attention I said you dislike me. And before you even begin to question it let me remind you I am always right... until one of the ladies of lit show up then I am wrong just like every other man.

cats, leave the poor guy alone. Just because he's from Portugal doesn't mean you can yank him around like this. Remember what happened last time you tried yanking someone's chain around here?

Probably not. Last time it was Raven I think I could be wrong.

Q don't mind me, giving one a hard time is my way of saying I am comfortable around you. (The trouble is I do it in person too, so feel bad for my girl friend.)
