American's take on British medical services.

The system that is being phased out is better than the UK healthcare system that costs half of what ours costs and covers everyone?

Stable genius. 😆

By the way, most Americans get healthcare through their employer, and that cost effectively comes “out of your paycheck”. Employees are paid less because of the extremely high cost of providing the health insurance benefit.
Don't confuse him.

You do realise that it's part of your remuneration package, don't you?
On top of that, it is an untaxed benefit which has the effect of turning it into a tax subsidy. So we already have a form of socialized medicine in the US, just an extremely wasteful and inefficient form of it.

Yeah there are lots of good YouTube videos about the healthcare systems in other countries and contrasting them with the US. They are all less expensive, more efficient and provide better care.

But none of that is convincing to MAGA sheep. They’re weird.
our system is expensive for a couple of reasons ... drug manufacturers overcharge America to offer welfare prices to the UK, and other countries

the other thing is red tape. freaking democrats

Our healthcare system is by far the most expensive because:
  1. There is nothing to stop doctors and hospitals from charging ever-higher prices for services. There are no market forces at work in healthcare (it’s impossible to comparison shop for the best price on heart surgery) and our government doesn’t regulate prices like other developed nations. Medical service prices in the US have increased far faster than general inflation.
  2. Insurance companies happily pass spiraling costs on to their customers. Their profits are a percentage of premiums, so rising costs that push up premiums mean more profits for them.
The other thing is Republicans have no plan (“two weeks”) to improve the situation. Freaking Republicans.

we need to remove the red tape, make sure that every hospital has competition. need to make sure that every dr office group has competition. this will drive down the costs, just that simple.

There is no competition unless people compare prices between different doctors, and that’s not possible. There are no price lists to compare, and doctors don’t give estimates.

Indeed, Mrs AW works in the pharma industry and sees retail prices on both sides of the Atlantic. You guys are getting shafted for over the counter medicines.

Not true, in some states if you ask the Dr HAS to give you a price list. Just like they do at Jiffy Lube which is almost the same kind of thing ;)

anyway, state of FL dr have to give you a price list if you ask

Nobody even tries to shop around for the best price. Healthcare is not a competitive market.

You can pretend things about healthcare all you want, but you’ll never change the fact that all other developed nations have healthcare systems that are far cheaper and cover everyone. And that was true before Obamacare was enacted so don’t try to blame it.

The existence of public healthcare also makes things better for those who are rich enough to go private. Many of the tests and procedures involved in healthcare are expensive and difficult, and private hospitals often pay the NHS to do that stuff for them (or use their facilities) because it saves them having to buy and hire the means to do it themselves. Thus cutting costs. Deals with the existing infrastructure are a big part of things.

Like, it’s a settled argument at this point. UHC just works better.

This isn't supported by either facts or the real world. But thank you for playing.

Totally Fact-Free Harpy is pretending that US healthcare isn’t the world’s most expensive, with the most healthcare related bankruptcies, and some of the worst outcomes of any developed nation. 😆

Here’s an entire thread about how US healthcare ranks last. Enjoy.

I have been watching American YouTubers videos experiences with the NHS the British medical services, and they are eye-opening.
It is a national non-profit government system that all British citizens are automatically entitled to use,and is FREE at the point of use.
Funding comes from a tax on earnings currently approx 0% of a weekly wage for the first ÂŁ300,8% the next ÂŁ700 and 2% after that.
Apparently the only hospital charge is ÂŁ5 a day some hospital charge for a personal TV.
Prescriptions from the personal doctor are approx ÂŁ10 per item no matter what the medicine costs and are free for the over 60's.
Ambulances are also FREE.

Now why can't America be like that?
PS For all the idiots crying but, but, but that's communism you are perfectly entitled to use the private health service, but you have to pay the tax as well.
There was a comedian back a few years who did an act with an Eastern European accent. The theme was "America is Wonderful Country!"

Sometimes, they did a "but . . . " as in

"America is Wonderful Country! But don't get sick and don't get old there!"

Let’s put some of the text of the article in that threads OP and links to it’s source material so @HisArpy doesn’t hurt himself by sticking his foot in his mouth again:

“The United States health system ranked dead last in an international comparison of 10 peer nations, according to a new report by the Commonwealth Fund.

In spite of Americans paying nearly double that of other countries, the system performed poorly on health equity, access to care and outcomes.”

Thankfully, I'm pretty healthy. My medical needs are specific; therefore, there is no fucking way I will price shop, as I need the best neurosurgeon possible. After all, when they cut into your spin, there is no whoopee or mulligan...

no wrong no no wrong.
The UK healthcare system has zero choices with minimal options. Say you need a new liver, well, you get put on a list. Then you have to wait and wait, as you have a scarcity of skilled doctors. In the USA, if you have health insurance and need a new liver, you will be scheduled for that surgery from the moment the paperwork is submitted to within 2 weeks, as they push it through the system.

For my back surgery, when the doctor looked at the MRI, we scheduled the surgery right then and there for later that week (he had an opening due to a patient having to reschedule). fuck the UK shit healthcare system and double fuck single payer healthcare as its shit care
