As far as questions go... I'll have to think a bit because nothing really comes to mind at the moment.

Hmm. I'm thinking I might introduce Roth's buddy a bit earlier than I originally planned, because I kind of want to piss Daven off some more XD

Not that Roth would purposefully be rubbing it in his face, but his buddy is already pretty high up, I was was thinking of this buddy pulling Roth in to lead a sort of practice battle. On the streets they grew up on together, they co-led their teams, with Roth being the main leader, so it would come naturally to the both of them and I kinda want to see (read) the look on Daven's face when he thinks Roth is immediately getting special treatment or promotion, when really, they are just playing again XD

So, do the recruits know yet that they're going to be fighting monsters? That that's the job? I could see Daven asking when they can get started with that. He won't be actually impatient, but I think he'll want to appear impatient to start killing monsters.

Yea they should know, though they haven't gotten a lot of info about how exactly they'll do it. Basically the organization would have just been like, "Do you want to join a group that is trying to operate as pest control?", or, "we are a group of people that fight large concentrations of monsters, come join us".

They wouldn't be given much info past that, like how exactly the MAAMS manage to do it, or where they get funding and such. They would have just told them they could find that stuff out once they join up.

I think Daven’s only question will be “When do we get to kill some monsters, right?”

Is that the question you want him to ask while they are driving? or for the second part when they are doing the last part of the trek on foot?

If it's the question he asked while they are still driving, the soldier would have told him that once they arrive at the base, they will run them all through some mild training sessions once they are settled in. They'll have a schedule each night, kind of like a job/school, where it's mandatory to practice with group leaders and be teamed up, fight one on one small battles, etc. The only difference to regular training exercises is that most of these will be done with props and half computer simulations, seeing as they can't actually catch and keep monsters in one spot

They will have a chance to go out and practice on some monsters that stay in the same area, night after night, but that's going to be like the first 'DnD' session I take you guys through. I'm going to mix like some physical monsters with some mental, to really paint the picture before we start hardcore world building.

Of course, I don't mind playing the DM in this type setting, but I definitely want you guys to have the opportunity to do it too

Edit: Daven is not the type of person to hold back surprises for later. He's going to try to wow everyone right off the bat, as long as Roth leaves him some rats to take care of. Or should him doing his thing start during Drobabes' post? He wouldn't wait long and once he starts it's going to affect everyone.

Go ahead and do what you do, but the soldiers may want to kind of try to get a handle on things before they get too bad. It might be a minute before I can make a post for this, I want to think it through from a tactical standpoint. Because on the one hand, they know that traveling through these tunnels is dangerous and that they might lose a few people, especially considering how kind of short staffed on other soldiers they are, but on the other, they are also pretty professional and might get a rescue going pretty fast and throw down some kind of pest bombs to stop the damage from escalating.

But yea, I want to think this through a bit before I react too quickly with them. With Roth, I already have a somewhat basic idea of how he's going to do, but they are in a large enough group that he'll probably not be able to show any leadership skills yet. He'll probably just be looking for any and all opportunities where he can provide support, because support is pretty important to him as it makes things run more smoothly.

Okay, I’m just going to tell you what Daven is going to do if there’s an opportunity, and you can use that info how you see fit. I really like the idea of him having this power, so unless you think it’s too OP for this early, here’s what he’ll do:

He’s going to want to show off, so as soon as he sees what happened, he will shout “STOP” in a voice that seems to echo supernaturally. All monsters in the vicinity without sufficient will to resist will be immobilized for, say, 30 seconds or so. Plenty of time for him to dramatically stab a few with his pen that becomes a flaming rapier, and for anyone else to mop up these rat-shaped maggot-bags.

If you don’t want him to be able to do that yet, no problem. If you just don’t want him to do it in this particular fight, then he could have wandered off or the soldiers could just move fast enough that it wouldn’t be a real show-off opportunity. If he suspects it will be underwhelming, he won’t do it.

Luke’s ability is not so showy, obvs.
