I completely zoned in on Ramsey Lewis for a good three days after his death a couple weeks ago, love his earlier stuff but it’s all great really.
Jazz musicians are such a different breed… I bet that they have to be introduced to the blandness of heaven very slowly, they probably spend a couple hundred years in the celestial Village Vanguard first, to be welcomed by Bill Evans taking cover charges..
Along my RL voyage, I discovered that he covered the White Album, or most of it anyway, don’t think he did Revolution #9 …
It was really good stuff, not normally a fan of covers (altho Junior Parker did some good Beatles covers- check out “taxman” and “tomorrow never knows”) but it was weirdly cool.
