Anyone from the UK?

What did you do at sea?

I imagine (rightly/wrongly) that a storm at sea meant rough seas?

So bills capped at a mere £2500..... That's not good enough.

Thoughts?

its better than what it was going to be.
this is the start of the debate tho i doubt the cap will move they have already done all the background work.
when the red wall torys start to see their surgeries filling up with people desperate for help
perhaps they will come back with more
but if you have not had to worry about money for more than what 5 years you forget what having to choose between x and y feels like.
what is really worrying is that in the middle of this will be an election and they will get in again.
what happens at the end of the two years when the price goes up 6 fold?
but by then will have all the fracking so hurah

Old fossil fuels are not the answer here.

Why not pay for everyone to have solar and heat pumps?

Drive new business/jobs to create/build/install the technology, reduce the need for external electricity generation, reduce our carbon foot print?

Has there been a study into the life time of a solar panel vs the carbon to produce it

but in principle yes
where will the heat pumps go
how noisy are the heat pumps

The problem we have is that our new prime minister that we didn't get a say in has worked for big oil, is the main voice for a party that has yearly received money from big oil companies.

The whole mindset of the government and of the people needs to be reset for anything renewable to really take hold.

Wind farms, wave farms, Solar panels are all great in theory and I do support them 100% but asking a country to give up a fraction of its greenbelt to help support it...there is where things jam up too!

We are asking for alot and it seems to me that it may be a little too late to reduce future generations.

As mentioned on several occasions over the last couple of days, I am staying at Well Next The Sea. A walk on the beach means that there are three off shore wind farms visible. Can someone tell me why we have invested so heavily in this technology and for 95% of them to be stationary. WTF is that all about. I’m guessing that our coal powered stations are harder to control and as a consequence they stop the wind farms. I don’t get all this, I’m just a minion who goes to work and tries to keep his head above the waves.

Why is there a difference between the companies who produce the energy earning massive profits and the companies who sell it to you and I who are going bust and keep needing to put up the prices. And why do I have to subsidise the failure of these companies that have gone bust. What’s it got to do with me.

Oh fuck it, here someone else have the soap box this is making me cross 🤬🤬🤬

Wind farms don't run on oil....cannot sell oil if there is too much energy coming from wind farms.

I QUIT long ago believing BP, Shell etc. Care one bit about the environment. They will only truly care once it affects profits

It is the conservative way
private profit / public losses

I personally don't think it's a mindset change for the public, only the government(s) and I brush all parties the same here.

I'd bet my pension (for what little it's worth) that the majority of people would snap up cheaper more affordable green energy solutions of they could. I've been looking at solar for my own property and it's going to cost tens of thousands of pounds. More than I can consider spending (or have access to). I would consider myself a middle income earner, and if I can't afford it, what hope is there for the majority of people in the lower income brackets.

When a new government comes into power they just rip up previous policies with little long term planning and just think of the now. (E.g. the home insulation program/green car tax reduction). We need to ring fence policies that will lead to a more green britian.

Re nationalize all UK utilities
its better than what it was going to be.

Could use the windfall tax to buy bucket load of shares in the them and nationalize them that way which would be funny
Would the fat cats still get paid as we'd buy their shares?

I would imagine so.
But then once we have 50% plus 1 share then we control it

Wind farms are incredibly inefficient and totally unsustainable. One nuclear power station on the shore of the Irish Sea (Heysham) generated more electricity last year (11·55 terawatt hours) than  all the wind farms in the Irish Sea combined. Wind turbines take 8 tons of concrete (a major contributor to emissions) per GWh, whereas nuclear plants use ¾ ton. The position for solar is even worse, before considering that almost all current installations have them close to the ground. If they were 10 to 12 feet up and spaced out a little, natural light would allow crops and livestock grazing to share the same space.

Contrary to your thoughts, it's the wind and solar that's hard to control - not enough wind = stopped turbines. Gas is easiest to switch on/off, followed by coal and then nuclear.

As with the majority of problems in the UK, it's caused by businesses chasing the money: in this case subsidies from politicians who have no clue about the science but want to be seen 'taking action' by a public who are generally just as ignorant of the subject.

All this really ought to be over on the Politics Board ====>

This is supposed to be a thread for meeting and flirting with other UK Litizens.

Hi, I'm in Gloucestershire.
