Thank you. I’m putting an extra pump out today. We’ve got away lightly so farMaking light of it Onia but I hope the levels don't rise for you.
How does that work, where do you pump it to?Thank you. I’m putting an extra pump out today. We’ve got away lightly so far![]()
I'm not sure what you are hoping to achieve by responding to people who haven't posted in years.Be good to chat
There is a half dozen cottages with a defence wall surrounding us. When the river spates it rises up the wall - so we stand on our side of the wall with the river at chest height on the other side, scary. Then we have pumps pumping surface water (which now can’t drain away) over the wall into the swollen river. Quite dramatic and a bit scary. We were on telly last time it happenedHow does that work, where do you pump it to?
Oh that sounds so stressful! I'm hoping the river doesn't get bad enough to overflow the wall. There is a half dozen cottages with a defence wall surrounding us. I hope the rain stops and the water recedes, fingers crossed for you.We are on a water meadow (flood plain) so in theory the meadows flood before the river reaches the top of the wall. But it is only designed to be a few inches higher than necessary![]()
Now I understand. It does sound very scary. Sending positive thoughts. There is a half dozen cottages with a defence wall surrounding us. I'm curious, did the community pay for the wall themselves or the local authority? I'm just wondering about the upkeep.Thank you. Everyone is so sweet here![]()
Oh ye of little faith.Give them time...![]()
The cottages are old. Mine is circa 1790. In the 1970s there was some road building (some distance away) which made the cottages flood more often. So Southern Water built the wall. Now the Environment Agency are responsible for it.I'm curious, did the community pay for the wall themselves or the local authority? I'm just wondering about the upkeep.
