Anyone starting a garden?

The hybrid melons seeds that Betticus gave me sprouted, but a mould killed them off.

I'm currently going to plant zucchini - love zucchini, and some morning glories along the back fence. I'll do that either today or tomorrow.

Beans are growing like crazy. Today I'll put the corn in and be done except for running beans between the corn. The local store here kicks the chain stores ass on seeds and plants. Nice to know for next year.

Tiny patio...

and container garden. Honeysuckle, jasmine, marigolds, dahlias, and celosia, forget-me-nots and rosemary.

I was gonna wait a month, but I'm pleased (and surprised!) enough to pop these in a couple of weeks early. I mentioned earlier the two nearly-dead tomato plants I went ahead and planted for mom after putting the tiller together and tilling up a little patch of ground; here they are. Look especially at the poor lil thang on the left, and how well he's doing! :D

Day One:

Wonderful work, SirWinston! :)

I'm going to spend 12 more dollars and get 48 more plants while I can. Not expand but fill in the holes and plant between the lettuce. My neighbor just hung one of those upside down tomato plants. It will be interesting to see how it does.

I'm thinking about putting my cages in upside down. Securing them with nine inch tent stakes. They just don't seem sturdy to me the other way.

My neighbor bought two of the hanging upside down tomato plants. I thought about making my own.

I'm giving up on the lettuce. It's going to be about 90 for the next ten days. Not too late for more tomatoes though. Get more Roma. Good for sauces. Pretty exciting now. Things change overnight. My neighbor can water it for me while I'm gone next week. I can Sunday. She can do it Tuesday and that should be enough. I'll be back Thursday.

It's almost raining too much now.

Make up your mind. Are you getting too much water from the rain, or do you need to water?

On a lark ...

after earlier discussions in this thread, i decided to take a shot at roses again.

This is a full afternoon sun corner that needed something after installing a raised bed for vegetables.

These went into the ground the first week of May with cut canes averaging 3-9 inches in length. For perspective sake, that's a 6 foot privacy fence.

This was pre-bloom near dusk on Saturday without a tripod.

This was Monday night with a tripod.

Mary Rose

i could never resist a good sense of humor. She bloomed earliest, is supposed to bloom repeatedly, and has double/full eye-catching assets.

A good gust got the foreground blossom just past its prime right before the shutter clicked.

Double/Full

Are those really all the same rose?
Look carefully here again. The one you liked most is the bud of the blossom in the upper right. Look at the upper left and you get the gist of second, third, fourth (...) looks. Look further inside to those with barely separated sepals and it looks like you've got reds/scarlets coming. Definitely a lady that keeps you on your toes.

Now I see it... beautiful roses, dear. Your yard must smell heavenly in the evenings.
