Maybe a mix? I think there were some pretty great effects back in the day that were low tech and yet still effective.
I think CGI is amazing and I love the effects too. I think there times where the limits of the old school effects led to more creative camera/framing/writing solutions to make it scary/intense etc, that then get lost when you don't have to do that. And that creativity often led to really great scenes I think.

I prefer to think of it as "liberated." Back in college, I liberated a barricade thing with the orange blinking light. The barricade was really too large for my room, so I ditched it quickly. Kept the light for a while though.

Aside from sitting in a pub and laughing and chatting with you? I expect life to be kind of the same for me, aside from some significant life-goals met (mortgage and debt free, all continents visited, etc).

LOL...sooner than 5 I'm hoping.

Yeah, kind of the same for me. Although I'll say this. Five years from now I'm thinking I'm going to start "coasting" into retirement. Not quiet quitting really, but just kind of not pushing as hard.
(Yes, I know...given the amount of time I spend on Lit, it's tough to argue the "pushing thing" but I do).

LOL - good choice for a theme song. My last concert of any size was Rush, about a decade or more ago. Concerts kind of lost their allure as I moved along the journey of life (and they got ridiculously expensive to see any kind of headliner).
