This is a pretty good point. Unfortunately, labelling's something human beings naturally do in language to some way or another. If the Metal genre is anything to go by, mass specification eventually just reverts back to the use of umbrella terms with more specific detail being given independently. So maybe we just need to go through a stage in which we over-label everything to the point where almost every label includes a handful of people before reverting to umbrella terms with less stigma attached.

I don't understand all the hand-wringing about labels. Imagine going to a supermarket where none of the cans had labels. It is a matter of luck if you get what you want.
