OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A protest march targeting police shootings turned violent in Oakland on Christmas night as protesters smashed windows, looted stores and damaged a Christmas in Jack London Square.

The “No Time Off” march started around 5 p.m. Thursday evening at 14th Street and Broadway with several dozen protesters taking part. Some were hostile from the beginning, with one protester lunging at a KPIX camera moments after the march began.

Around thirty windows were smashed between a local Subway restaurant and a BevMo store at 525 Embarcadero West, where bottles of liquor were pilfered and used as projectiles.

No need to forge guns although I could make a zip gun in my backyard, as I have said and it seems to be unclear to some, guns are STOLEN, and therefore readily in abundant supply.

For the sake of discussion in an anti-gun nut utopia, lets say we have 10 years of the most rigid registration scheme you can think of and then, like Australia, you use that registration scheme to confiscate each and every firearm duly registered by all of the most law abiding citizens in the realm.

What does that do about the millions of guns that were stolen during the rigorous registration period? What about the millions of guns that were not registered because to do so would mean the registrant would be admitted to having a gun they are proscribed by law from having? What about the weapons brought in protecting drug shipments from Mexico? What about the guns stolen in all the years prior to that?

Why confiscate them? I already said just take them if they are used in a crime and punish the criminals to a high enough extent that the risk/reward ratio doesn't play out. Also if they can be confident crooks and law abiding citizens don't have a gun they have less need for one themselves.

A gun that's locked in your closet isn't a gun, it's a paper weight.

Violent crimes are at a decades long low, the the Ferguson protests don't rival the riots of old, you don't see lynchings very often, the tops aren't loosing dogs on black every friday, it's been a while since anybody truly important was killed (JFK, MLK, Malcolm X). By what measure are in a rough spot?
