Was it irresponsible for just them or also of anyone with access to podium and a mic? I ask because I've walked through the protests these past 2 weeks and have yet to hear from the latter.
No one here gives a damn about Sharpton or the head of the Sergeants telling the Mayor to not come to cop funerals. No one even knew who he was until a week ago. What everybody does see is that the police are willing to close ranks around one of their most despicable. That they hold each other in higher regard than the public they've sworn to serve and protect, that's all anyone sees.
The NYPD has more than a PR problem now. And, as much as it would like to tell the world that the blood of the two slain officers are on the mayor's hand, no one here believes it. All anyone can talk about is the moment they realized that cops see us all through the lens of 'us versus them'.
Have you never talked to a cop? All cops see it as us versus civilians, always. It is part of the problem and is never going away. The alternative is anarchy and vigilantism .
Picking a stupid cause like brown to be the poster child just moved cops farther to the "us" vs them mindset.
Killing two of them drowned out anything that could possibly be said.
All of those that have called for protests had zero problems opening their mouths to fan the flames and none of them said one word to quell the flames when the innocent mic was used to call for cop killing. You stand up and say something then, or your silence, given your imprimatur on the protests is assent. Period. That is how cops see it and rightly so. It is war. Most of the war will be legal. Some of it will not be.
I guarantee you that there are raids on gangbangers planned for all over the city. They hope that the gangbangers give them what even sort of looks like a reason to shoot.
