Love John Sandford. I'm waiting a few more days to see if I get the new Virgil Flowers novel by him, if not it'll be on my Nook next week.

Speaking of my Nook...anyone out there have a Nook? We could become "nook friends" and share books if so.

And much of it cannot be discussed on Lit in detail because of the ages of the characters...which was a shocker to me when I first encountered it.

That's the other show, I think it's Spartacus like you said.

I didn't see the series on HBO, I'm assuming that they've aged the characters for it though, because I think they'd have gotten into too much trouble having 13 year olds having sex.

if you would historical drama with there is Patrick O,brien's master and commander series
they made a film based around the tenth book in the series (they did change it a bit as the book had the americans as the bad guys)
20 books in the series about british navy set during the nepoleonic war and the american war of independence

I'd definitely second breezy's recommendation of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova....

Some other pretty fine reads....

* Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts (it's a bit of a brick, but well worth the commitment!)

* The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (don't know anybody who hasn't loved this)

* Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel (that ticks the fab historical fiction box)

Whatever you take, enjoy the hols

I like my literature to move me. And to be somewhat interactive. Make my imagination work. Oh and the new Alex Cross novel is out by James Patterson. (maybe someone mentioned it already)

Carl Hiaasen as an author.

All his books are mystery/detective stories set in Florida. He has a twisted sense of humor and I found all his novels to be really fun reads.
