Boston Beach Party!

Is the show on tonight?

I need to set my speed dial.

Thanks for the Red Sox tix - cool idea with no fanfare. Sorry to hear you guys finally ran out. No surprise there. I gave mine to a friend who's son really wanted them. Little fella sends his thanks and says he's sorry he can't stay up so late to hear "the nice ladies".

The show was last night

And red sox tix? Not sure what your talking about there

I got a little music experience for you here. Electronic music, while abiding by the 50-70 thing, and through the limited archive of youtube

Starting way back in 63
the Dr. Who theme

Next the ultimate break beat influence, this sampled probably accompanies half of all rap
69 Amen, Brother (you can hear the sampled beat at 1:27, its short)

James Brown needs mentioning, he basically created rave and influence almost all hardcore electronic. Here’s his most popular sample.
69 Funky Drummer (hear the sample at 5:35)

One of Kraftwerks early works, may not sound like much but the structure is there
71 Ruckzuck

after kraftwerk figured out electronic music it could no longer be denied

72 Popcorn

74 Phaedra

75 Radioactivity

Plus some good old reggae, without which rap would not be
75 Baby I Love You

Do you actually want the archived shows or just the playlists? might be nice to be able to listen to one show without the rest of the show...

And hell yeah, send me any cool stuff you've got! I'll probably dig it. (and if not, no sweat off my balls :D)

(p.s. I'm a such a lady, I know)

Show and play list both would rock. Whatever you want to set up, doll.

I'll see about putting together some joy for you.

I will express my approval without excitement in tribute to Kraftwerk.

I posted a big buncha announcements on this thread before the show. You can look back a few pages and look at 'em if you want.

The Dr. Who theme is pretty cool. As is just about every TV theme from the 60s. The theme from The Apartment is good. And the Get Smart theme...mmmmmMmmmm

And trust me, James Browns excellence is not lost on me.

Not super into electronic music, but I'll check out all of these when I'm not supposed to be studying.

This track is actually proof of James Brown musical genius. Listen to it from 4:40, and you can here James noticing the drummer doing something exceptional, so he lets him cut loss. I wonder how many layers of music can be found in his funk.

Many many many. I'm pretty sure that just about all of his tracks are proof of his genius. Kind of like how every single Brian Wilson song is proof of his immense musical genius, no matter how poppy and inane. I can't check out the clip now, but I really will tomorrow, I promise.

Brian Wilson, is this your way of dropping a hint?

Anyway I don’t care even if it is, Brian Wilson rocks

And just for you

66 Good Vibrations (fist major chart success with a synthesizer)

and my favorite
Don't Worry Baby

Syd, babe, never say you can't check it out now, and then never check it out. I know A&R guys who have more time to check out clips/tracks than you seem to have.
Love the show, though.

Haha I'm trying (obviously without success) to study! I have a really big test tomorrow.

Dropping a hint? I don't believe so. Just seemed like a good comparison to me.

And thank you very much. Don't Worry Baby is one of my faves too.

Hey, be nice, she’s studying, takes serious focus.

I’m the same way, when I finally manage to get around to studying, I have to totally immerse myself in it, even the smallest thing could result in me siting their hours later wondering what the hell I just did with all that time.

I actually think I've about given up now. I took a "small" break to check lit and here I am a half hour later. So, soon enough it'll be off to bed with me!

What's wrong with you young folks today? You had the entire semester to stay out all night having fun. Now all they ask is to for you to stay awake all of one night and answer some mostly predictable questions the next day.

Sleep will not help you. Only studying, with short nap before test.

Actually the brain organizes itself during sleep cycles, so the most effective way to learn is to study and then fall asleep thinking about the subject… a real sleep, not a nap.

What's your major and what's the exam?

Film, History of Media Arts, Multiple Choice, one of three grades the entire semester. We're talkin some serious testing. Therefore, bedtime. Night, guys.

BTW: don't believe everything you read. Whatever works for you works for you. There are a million studies about sleep/learning, etc. Just go by experience.

You should be able to guess those fairly simply. Likely you know so much of the subject (as your professor/TA is aware) that he/she will give you tempting choices - usually connected to some media theme/movement or the work of a related artist. The easy answer will always be wrong. In fact, probably, unlike most multiple choice exams, the least likely answer choice will be correct - as your prof/ta will be trying to prove something.

Think like the test-maker.

Good night and good luck.
