Butch lesbians...

What does "dressing straight" mean then?? And @safe_bet, glue-on nails are icky... Just for the record :) And tonight for example... I was out in a gay bar, in Doc Martens, leggings and a t-shirt, not dressed for anything in particular, and only had a straight guy hit on me and the girls I saw all thought I was straight... Honestly don't get it!

If all of the girls you saw thought you were straight, even after dressing like that, it's something else. Maybe next time you can ask them why they think that way about you.

I have no idea lol

Good luck!

:rose:

Awww Daddi...

Heya sexy Stella...I am trying to convince my own soft butch to stop through and let me intro her to everybody....

Probably is a bit more than the clothes. Smiley has the right of it,. I would ask, were I you.

I don't understand why bars keep you out for looking too straight. In my world gay is what you ARE-- or not-- not what you look like.

I think, Sparkle, that you've come up against the minority need for safety and identification.

(snip)

So, yeah. make a little bit of an effort, for the sake of your sisters. Dress in a way that screams "I'm a lesbian and I know how to show it." Leave the conservative, "straight" seeming attire for after you've gotten to know your friend.

That would be my advice, anyway...

1) You just completely contradicted yourself, Stella my dear.

2) Fuck the minority need for safety. I don't know about Sparkle, but if somebody told me to "make an effort" to "look like a dyke" to satisfy some women I don't know...fuck that shit. I am who I am. When I go out I dress how I'm comfortable. If somebody has a problem with that, she better enjoy the view up her own ass. I dress for me, not anybody else. I am just as much a dyke as some mullet wearing flannel dressed softball playing chick. And yeah, I'm talking about bars! I would never pick up a girl while pretending to be butch, and then spring my femme self on her later - that's not cool. I am who I am, and anybody who has a problem with the way I look has their OWN issues to work out.

It took me a long time to stop wishing I "looked gay" so I could be seen as something more than straight. Yeah, I look straight on the outside! But I love my long hair and I don't wear makeup (ever) but I enjoy being girly. But I'm still a dyke, and I gotta live life for ME not for somebody else.

Of course we would know. Lesbians see all and know all. You'd know that yourself except you sleep with dudes... :D

You can CALL yourself a lesbian, a bull dyke or a flaming bull frog for that matter but that doesn't change the definition of the term. Bottom line is that a lesbian doesn't sleep with men. (IMO)

Even though I'd sooner sew myself shut than let some dude stick his dick in me ever again, someday I might change my mind (HEY! It could happen!) and fuck some dude. THEN I wouldn't be a lesbian . Get it? Fuck a dude, lose your lesbian card. We don't get to pick and choose the meaning of a definition.

BTW, you know what we call a hetero chick that sleeps with a lesbian???? You got it = BI!

I hate to break it to you, but identity has jack shit to do with behavior. Welcome to the 21st century. There's no goddamn lesbian card, people have the right to determine their own identity, and if you want respect, you damn well better respect others. I am fucking tired of people saying "oh you're bi" or "oh you're gay" or whatever shit. There's a reason the CDC uses the term MSM: because identity and behavior are NOT always what you think they are. You have to trust that a person knows who the fuck they are. If a man has a wife but he's on the DL, only HE can tell you if he is gay, straight, or bisexual. You don't get to assign him a label just to make yourself feel better.

It's attitudes like that which make me ashamed to be a dyke. I should just start using queer again, so people don't think I'm some idiot who likes to pigeonhole people against their will.

Oh, and as for why butches? Well, why do some guys say "I'm an ass man" etc? It's just a personal preference. I go weak in the knees for butches! It's just my preference. Ended up marrying a femme though. We ogle butches together!

I am cracking up laughing! :D

If I were single and looking to have fun with another woman, I would dress accordingly. I wouldn't put on an evening gown and heels for example lol

And that is why I use the always popular term queer....because I don't know what else to call me.

Of course I contradicted myself, because she gave me more information that changed what i was seeing. I could keep on saying "Well, it OUGHT to be THIS way," but what good has that ever done us?

In any case, you've read me wrong.

She's looking to meet the women in the first place. She's saying they don't want to talk to her because she looks straight. She's very upset about that.

You can bet that anyone who has an issue with how Sparkle looks is working out their own issues-- and they'll do it without Sparkle, because they don't know her, don't care to meet her.

Sometimes, you DO need to conform a little bit. This is social, not political.

Oooh yeah...

I'm gay for other butches, big time. But lately I've been thinking how much fun it would be to take a lady out on a date...

Well I might be "some idiot that likes to pigeonhole a person against their will" but that STILL doesnt change definitions. If a woman fucks other women while "sometimes" fucks guys, and intends to keep doing both as the opportunity presents itself then she is by definition a bisexual.

You might think that's unfair, but you need to take that up with those other pigionholing idiots = Mr. Webster or Msrs. Funk and Wagnall. ;)

BTW, please also do no imply that I have any problems with somebody who is bi or pan. For example I love Luna and Stella. I just would never fuck either of them if I didn't know in their heart of hearts that they intend to only be with women from this point forward. That's because I "identify" as someone who don't fuck people who intend to ever fuck a man again.

Besides all of that, a chick that turns me on could be anything from a girly femme like my Suzy was or a flannel and mullet wearing bull dyke. THAT part is all about the person.

unsubscribing, sorry for being an idiot folks.

???????????

What? You don't get to express your opinion too? I don't happen to agree with you, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have your say as well.

I understand your frustration.
I'm one of the girliest girls you'll meet.
Except you probably won't meet me.
But still.
I'm attracted to women and women only.

I love everything about femininity. I love feminine women and I love being feminine.
That isn't ever going to change. It's a part of who I am.

However. I don't have any issues with the more masculine women.

Lesbians who's appearances are more androgynous or masculine (and for that matter, gay men who's appearance/ behavior is more feminine) is because that is how they feel comfortable. The same goes for heterosexuals in terms of things such as a "tomboy" look or a "metro" fashion.
The fact is, there is a diversity of gender expression among all women and men no matter what their sexual orientation is.

I think the real issue you're dealing with here is the stereotype.
Why are all lesbians stereotyped to be masculine?
Who knows. I guess because it was originally thought that liking women is a man's domain.
However, we are in fact real women. So that isn't the case.
Furthermore, butch lesbians are what's portrayed in movies, in television, and in the general media so people stereotype all gay girls as being that way.
There are butch lesbians of course, but there are plenty of the opposite as well.
Different but similar for stereotypes, a lot of times men will be portrayed as very flamboyant for the purpose of comedy reasons.

It's normal for stereotypes so it's just one of the things we have to deal with.
It isn't that the stereotypical gay people are bad of course. There's nothing wrong with them.
It's just that the stereotype effects all the non-stereotypical ones. :]

But don't let it bother you.
No two people are the same. Homosexuality doesn't define who you are as a person.

Just like everyone else, lesbians come in many different colors.
Some of them are attracted to butch women and some are attracted to feminine women just like you and me. :)

Edit: oh. and as for looking butch just to be recognized as gay.
There's really no need for that.
Homosexuality is a part of us.
But that doesn't mean we have to change ourselves in anyway because of it.
Always be true to yourself. Always be yourself.

If you want to let people know you're gay easier, then you can wear lesbian jewelry and things like that.
It can do wonders and help cut down on awkwardness when a girl doesn't know whether she should hit on you or not. :]

There's actually a site that started up with this very pretty rainbow bracelet. Nothing out of the ordinary. But it doesn't actually cost money. They send them to people for free. It's for LGBT members and those who support it.
So things like that can say something too.

So maybe that'd help you.

Hello you!

Nobody's suggesting she should look or act "butch"
The bracelet idea is a good one!

:)

Good point. I'm not much of a jewelry person, but even I like Luna's "boi" necklace! (and if wearing THAT doesn't let people know where you are coming from then it's all on them!)

I also thing it bears mentioning that it's not just how you look but how you act. (and this ties into your prior point). I LOOK pretty andro, but I've been "told" that I act and talk rather "masculine". I personally find this offensive as hell.

Having certain characteristics that are ascribed as being "male" (i.e. a fairly deep voice, certain body postures, aggressiveness in the business world, etc.) does not make me a "wannabe man" anymore than being a nurturing parent makes a man a "wannabe woman". All it does is make me ME. If people don't like that fact they can kiss my lily white ass, after I kick theirs! (yeah, I know what that sounded like.... so sue me!)

are you imagining that I look delicious? :D

*strikes a pose*

:D

Well yes, yes I was...and then I was imagining slipping it off your body...and doing very rude things to you...for hours...*nods*

I started wearing the boi necklace BECAUSE I got sick of being hit on by guys. I know I am busty. I know I have a very round bum. I know I have kidlets. Inside though, I am a BOI. Even if my insides and outsides don't always match. It made things much easier~both in meeting women and in discouraging men.

SO honestly Sparkles, maybe a small piece of jewelry would help. Cuz obviously changing who you are (or how you dress) just to be able to get a decent date with the type of female YOU prefer is silly.

**Ogles your ass**

"Hello there beautiful, waiting for someone special???"

maybe...

I've written stories about butch lesbians getting strap-on fucked by bossy FEMMES and loving it. Had GREAT reviews for a change. LMBAO.

Sparkle, grab yourself a rainbow necklace. It will clash with everything you own, but it might get the message across :)

I am going to agree with you by quoting someone from another forum entirely:
Human sexuality can be described using the proper terminology, but it is defined by the individual's psychological makeup and life's experiences. Understanding the terms that have been discussed on this thread doesn't mean understanding the psychology of any given person. It is impossible to walk in another person's shoes, but it is possible to follow the path of those that have graciously shared...
(BDSM in that case but queer identity in this one)
