Hello people,

Am visiting Ho Chi Minh City. It's quite an eye-opening experience, to be in a country that is rebuilding itself after decades of war. I hope they learn from the mistakes of other countries before them. It's a beautiful land with lots of resources and the people seem so industrious, no victim mentality.

And tipping is not done here! I wonder if tipping is part of the victim mentality.

Anyway, if you get a chance, come see this place. It's so different from what you see in the movies.

Saigon really is different...not only in movies but to the naked eye.
the problem is mistaking manufactured facade for progress ... hiding the beggars doesn't mean they're not there...
hope you had a wonderful time...go back soon, many wonders to be discovered..to bad we never have enough time or $$$ to really dicver thi wonderful world we live in, huh.

That's heavy stuff you're saying, asian_princess. You think the aura of progress is faked? I dunno...I got a different feeling. And businesspeople are *really* interested in Vietnam. So let's hope this bird-flu thing dies down soon without taking anymore casualties. I still say, it's a beautiful country and I'd love to return and stay longer and out in the countryside.

P.S. The food is sooooo good. I love fresh basil in EVERYTHING. And the dipping sauces were just right, sometimes spicy, sometimes sweet, sometimes salty like Filipino bagoong....mmmm, must find a good Vietnamese restaurant here!

oh i agree! that's what i love about our asian cuisines....the fresh fragrant spices!! and it takes you forever to walk through the streets cos you have to stop at all the vendors and see what amazing dishes they're serving up...ohh home sick now LOL
