Hi! I've been living about 140 miles east of Raleigh for the last 9 years on the beautiful Crystal Coast. I travel up there often for theater and concerts, etc - but have never lived there.
I'm know that I'll like living here, but I am REALLY going to miss living near the beach.
Hi, back at ya!

I love the crystal coast area! We have some friends in Wilmington, and some family about an hour from the coast, so we head east from time to time. You'll only be 2 hours from the beach, and I know that's not the same, but it is close.

Granted, Raleigh has probably changed a lot since I was there, but it was a fun place to live, especially around campus. Lots of bars on Hillsborough St., and sites to see.

If you head toward the triad, give all of us a holler!

Well - I've already started looking for areas to buy a home and looking for schools for the kids. I'm leaning strongly to the Wakefield area. Schools seem really good around there.
Two hours is an almost unbearable amount of time from the beach. I've gotten so used to being only about 10 minutes, with traffic. At least we'll be close to the theater, museums and other fun stuff. Now - I won't have to travel over 2 hours, late at night, for a concert. :)

That's cool, hope you find a nice place at a nice price.

It would be nice to be that close to the beach. Hmmm... Sorry, thinking about the beach. ;)

There is a lot to do in Raleigh, so you won't be bored, unless you wish to be. Concerts, sports, the Fair, museums, events downtown,...

I try NEVER to be bored. I just hope that we find a house with a nice yard. I love my gardens and everything outside.
Now - I make it a point to never go to the State Fair. I really hate crowds. I know there is a small Renfest there in April, which we'll probably attend.... but the concerts and theater/ballet are really going to be a GOOD thing. We are already in Raleigh about once a month for some event or another.... and it is a 2 1/2 hour trip. (let me tell you.... getting home at 1:30 in the morning after a concert and then REALLY long drive is getting rather old)
The radio stations in Raleigh are better than here. :)

I getcha, better to stay busy! Working in the yard and growing flowers is a great pasttime, and very rewarding.

I usually go to the Fair on an off day, during the week, so the crowds are down. I made the mistake of going one year on a Saturday that State played at home, and the crowds and parking were abominable.

Yes, a long trip after a concert can bring down your buzz very quickly, and I think it's a waste of what you comsumed to get that way.LOL

Definitely some good stations in Raleigh! I can pick up most of them here, and I listen from time to time.

Haven't been to many shows lately, but my best friend got free tickets to Ozzfest 2007 so we'll be in Charlotte on 8/28. It'll be my umpteenth time seeing Ozzy, but I am majorly looking forward to seeing Hatebreed finally and Lamb of God should put on a good set I'd wager. Most of the rest of the lineup blows floppy donkey penor however. Still sucks I didn't have the extra time to catch Matisyahu (Show on 7/20 with 311, but I have a huge job that day >_<!), Nightwish (VA Show sold out too fucking quick), Rush (Heard about it too late QQ), and Bad Religion (7/23 in Charlotte, but I have a damn trip to Hiddenite, NC same day) at their respective East Coast shows this summer. Next show I get to look forward too will be on 9/25 in Greensboro to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I just have to see them everytime they hit NC. Victor Wooten is a God among men when it comes to bass and he's a damn nice guy as well.

nuff' rambling, off to play a game.

My son was trying to convince me to go to Ozzfest, but I just don't think that I'm up for it. Rush was a friggin' AWESOME concert though! The energy of 3 "older" guys just amazed me.

Hehe, RUSH are absolutely amazing. Seen them about a half dozen times now since the late 80's (Somewhere around Hold Your Fire and Presto era I forget which >_<!). One of my fave shows of all tile was seeing Rush, Primus, and Bonham (Jason Bonham, Son of the late John Bonham of Led Zepplin) on the same night. They all put on good shows (even if Bonham was overall mediocre), but at the end of the night all 3 bands got together and did some Led Zepplin songs in honor of Bonham's dad. Was too fucking awesome.
