Catfish and Fake posters

@BobbyandtheCabin cont.

For me my frustration towards catfish (and my innate need for call them out) and alt accounts is not ever about jealousy, it’s usually….
  • Irritation at gullibility
  • Annoyance at manipulation being rewarded
  • General fatigue at watching the same script replay
On a site like this… of course, anonymity is expected. Most people here have amazing private lives, good jobs/partners/ families that they don’t want finding what they post here…

But when I can TELL someone’s pictures aren’t theirs (ie, an account claiming to be a university student who is running an OF just to “get by”…) and those images all look to be slightly different people and or AI generated/edited and others are totally blind sided by it it fills me with rage. For me…EVEN in erotic spaces, consent still matters. Despite the whole “some of us don’t care we want fantasy” scope of things.

People here are still engaging based on perceived authenticity.

If someone is:
  • Stealing real women’s images
  • Using them to build credibility here
  • Forming parasocial dynamics
  • Possibly gaining money, attention, or emotional investment
It irks me, but I know MANY people here don’t actually care about authenticity as much as they care about stimulation. If the fantasy is convincing enough, they’ll accept it. I’m sure some even suspect and still continue because the interaction feels good.

I would say to people worrying about being catfished to maybe engage brain a little when scrolling. For example, when you know an alt has recently been banned…. And a handful of new ones pop up sporadically over the following months…Look out for….
  • Inconsistent narrative details (people always slip up. Especially when they post in the politics threads…. And entertain arguments in there.)
  • Similar typing style… (ie: using lower case only)
  • Gendered language mismatches
  • Sexual scripts that feel as though they’ve been written by a man while claiming female identity
  • Performative overcompensation… (for example constantly apologising, asking if posting xyz is okay, asking if they ever need to verify…. Like… normal users don’t talk this way.
I also think that because so many new people enter this site people will always fall for the catfish games…. Because of the simple fact that…. New users don’t know the history. Because they weren’t there the first time. Social proof effect…. If others are interacting positively, it signals credibility and they feel they can engage…. Probably also some wishful belief and thinking… If the images are attractive, people want them to be real. (This one pisses me off the most because the REAL women that post here have flaws were not perfectly airbrushed we’re REAL! those that look like they’ve just taken snaps on the set of a porn shoot are NOT genuine. I promise.) there’s also the erotic suspension of disbelief. Because users prefer the fantasy intact. Annddd also, attention bias… because if someone is responsive, flirtatious, and validating, that overrides doubt.

Authenticity matters to me. Especially because I’ve been played manipulated and bullied here because of one specifically CRAZY catfish experience. And now I doubt most new accounts.

But catching them easy. It’s having sufficient evidence to take to mods that’s the hardest part.

Yeeees, I'm with you and get you 🥰.

The wishful thinking thing, as a guy, is something I tried to recognise as a trigger quite quickly, painful as it can be 😂. I'm here for a reason at the end of the day, and same when I went back on those chat sites, and it's so easy to get excited when someone is overtly explicit and thirsty (in a way far less common from the female side) and not engage the brain fast enough in that sort of.... state 😁.

And the social proof effect is so interesting isn't it. There was someone's profile I was looking at on here earlier who had been here a little while, is very active, and has so much interaction going on. It's a little more sophisticated than most, but I was reading their bio and was thinking... there's just no way... but I could be wrong.

There were ordinary details and a photo that could swing either way, but it was just how she described herself in her bio... i won't out them publicly on here in case I'm wrong 😂, but it's the sort I'd stay well away from regardless. I can give the name private for you to inspect if you're curious 😂😊

100% with you on the authenticity too, and so sorry to hear RE the manipulation and bullying 😔😔.

It's just that concent piece that's so important isn't it. For me, if I realise i'm being duped in some way, my mind goes to the worst possibilities and I feel violated.

I asked one I suspected yesterday :

"How come you upload the to wife lovers dot com before putting the watermarked pics on ibb?"
The men just continued to compliment him them.
......
I saw another account today post two different pics with completely different manicures - one of which was supposedly new - the 1st could have been from before, though.

I post old and new pics (by old I mean the last year or two) and I have my nails done each month! But I don’t always share images with the same manicures. A manicure is not something to go by u unfortunately. An extra finger or toe might be if it’s AI ;)

Whatever happened to the thread that named and celebrated the ones we had busted?
I thought that was this one.

The "tributes" thing scares me a little, I think.

It's easy as a guy looking for compliments and validation, to get roped into that sort of thing. I've engaged online once, and literally worried about it for months after. Just realising (post-nut clarity we call these epiphanies 😂) that you literally have no idea who the person is and all other possibilities as to the origins of the photo. Unless it's super obvious all is ok... but how often would that certainty be genuine, really.

There was a guy posting here about this person who is the best to tribute for, everyone agreeing how amazing she is, and the recipient was just so obviously fake and AI... The poor guy was adament she is real and posted a photo of her holding the ipad (<--) with his tribute pic on, and I had to point out how ridiculously long her thumb would have to be to hold it like that.

Or maybe the guy was generating the fake female just to show off on a tribute thread

This really hurts genuine users who are trying to express themselves honestly and accusing people of being fake and can damage confidence and their safe space

You can usually tell them fake posters. They post the same ad all over in different threads, and by the wording

I think that was a Pmann thread

lol I already have a tax man lined up for next year 😎

and people say I’m wasting my potential, ha!
This made me laugh and reminded me of a time, yearsss ago, when I asked a guy I met on lit if I could call him real quick to help me troubleshoot my printer because I couldn’t get it to work 🤣
