The word "cat" worked its way into a couple of my story titles - Ella the Cat Burglar and Blame in on the Cat, and was a long time cat owner that misses having one. None of this equips me to write an anthro cat story, but @anthrodisiac has nudged me towards considering just such a story. i need to finish my current wIP before i try anything new, and am not even familiar with the conventions of anthro stories, so would need to research, but:

What's the story idea?
what/who are the characters?
what's the setting?
what's the inciting incident?
if it's a drama, not a comedy, what's the jeopardy?
If it's a comedy, heaven help us.

So Catgirl (or Nekomimi) tropes are varied but have two main divisions: they are either ultra cute and immature, or they are boastful and proud. They also tend to be more comedic. Usually they aren’t aware of their attractiveness to other character but when they are they use it to get favors.

Examples off the top of my head:

Aisha Clan Clan from Outlaw Star: Powerful warrior who is also a goofy failboss. Also created a lot of formative memories for young nerds as there’s an episode where she goes topless in a hotspring.

Blair from Soul Eater: goofy but powerful cat who can change between a regular cat and a busty catgirl. while she shows up initially as a minor antagonist, she ultimately works for the side of good. She’s aware of the effect her good looks have on people but mostly in that it gets guys to do things for her.

Power from Chainsawman: not a catgirl directly but she does fit some of the tropes and acts quite catlike so she can be good for inspiration.

She’s extremely boastful, thinks she’s a genius despite being a dumbass. Can be quite affectionate while also throwing her allies to the wolves, thinks anything she wants is hers, and hates taking baths.

There are also the Nekopara girls but I haven’t played that, though I assume they fall into the cute and naive aspect. Fire emblem had a game with them.

In the future a company starts making PACs, Personal Animal Companions. They are flesh and blood but they are artificially educated and matured. Normal ones can be a friend or romantic partner (of course they never directly advertise the sexual aspect and it’s a social taboo to be fucking them), specialized ones can be in home caregivers. While they are mostly human, they have animal features to distinguish them.

A. Older man’s kids get him a PAC to be a live in aide for him. She’s bright and cheerful but he wants nothing to do with her. She keeps trying though and she realizes above everything else, MC wants to feel useful. So, telling the truth or lying, she tells him she’s gone into heat and needs help that only he can provide. Kids visit later and find dad in better spirits and the PAC being very happy and having her thighs slick with cum.

B. Daughter dies and she leaves her PAC behind. Parents (or just one of them) didn’t really like the idea of the PAC but it’s someone who knew her well.

B1. They try to make the PAC a surrogate for their daughter. Giving her their daughter room and clothes and doting on her. PAC though refuses to play along: she is her own being and their daughter wouldn’t want this. She starts destroying their daughter’s things and eventually gets them into a hatefuck that turns into the catharsis they need to grieve

B2. PAC has a secret: daughter was gay and the two of them were a couple. PAC has complicated feeling about it: she loved their daughter but even after years with her she doesn’t know if daughter loved her or if she was just an easy outlet. For the parents it’s an extra blow: their daughter was engaging in a taboo relationship and she never felt comfortable enough to come out to them. Meanwhile mom has also been hiding her own bi or homosexual desires.

I am doing a gender-swapped version of Alice in Wonderland. So, I will be including female anthro versions of the White Rabbit, March Hare and the Cheshire Cat.

Chessie, will be a lovely full figured black and gray, tiger cat with a tail so long and full that she uses it like a feather boa. She's got lovely full lips and a startlingly dangerous looking smile that seems to go from ear to ear. She's a tease and is Alex's guide though Underland. I will be including only the goings on from the first book with several major twists.

Keeping up with the PAC idea I proposed earlier:

1. Nerdy Guy’s parents get a PAC. She’s absolutely gorgeous and his friends are smitten. So he decides to try and impress them by arranging situations that make it look like he and the PAC are in a sexual relationship. One day though while he’s talked her into trying on a bikini as an “Art reference” PAC muses about a legal case where a man was caught sexually harassing another person’s PAC. In addition to social taboo he ended up getting sued by the company that makes PACs.

She then makes it clear: she has the evidence to put together a case like that against him and it’s her duty to report it…but if he’s good she’ll forget about it. She then spreads her legs, pulls her bottoms to the side and tells him to crawl over.

2. Young woman is often bullied into doing extra work or homework. For her coworkers or bullies. What her bullies don’t know though is that for whatever reason, their PACs find her irresistible and soon they’re helping sabotage their humans so they can spend more time with her

Okay, so catgirls can mean a few different things, so I think it's useful to break down the three main physiological types:

1. Animal humanoid: This is basically a human with a handful of cat traits. Might be a human, but with a tail and ears and whiskers. Could be human + paws. Crucially, they are more human than cat. Think human, but with a little bit of cat.
2. True anthro: This is basically a cat, but put into human form. Almost all the traits are cat, except for being bipedal, and if female, usually two breasts where you'd expect them on a human female. Think cat, but human-shaped.
3. Were-cats: Basically werewolves, but some kind of cat species. Usually, these tend to be larger predatory cats like jaguars, lions, panthers. The were-form can be either full cat or more like a traditional werewolf, which is more or less true anthro-shaped instead of animal humanoid.

To riff on this, make it PHC, Personal Human Companions; in a world of cat people, they have humans as personal companions/pets.

Okay based on this new info my Wonderland characters are somewhere between the middle and left illustration. Furred, but have areas of open skin. Not full snouts but a happy medium. Animal feet and claws when appropriate.

I have a couple of stories with catboys in them. They were quite a bit of fun to write. The thing to remember with catgirls/boys is that, they're basically cat in personality, although they look mostly human when they're in humanoid form, just ears, tail, and maybe whiskers. They're slender, short, and pretty. At least, that's what I found out when researching the anime trops for catboys and catgirls.

Also, it's pretty common for them to have a fully feline form that they can switch in and out of at will, and yeah, some of them are in drama's but they're usually there for comedic/tension relief.

This is a good point: there are variations on breasts among true anthro-typed catgirls (it's very uncommon to see anything other than human breasts on an animal humanoid). Range and placement can vary depending on if you want to go with humanoid breasts, or more cat teat style (up to 8). Two where you'd expect on a human female, multiple rows, usually the top the largest, then decreasing in size from there, or all of them lower down on the abdomen in the normal feral feline configuration. Most people opt for the two humans, but there is a special place in my heart for those that go multi-breasts, same way there's a special place in my heart for those who go hemipenes.

Horrorish idea:

In Appalachia they have the “Wampus Cat” story goes a Cherokee woman spied on ritual she wasn’t supposed to see and was transformed into a six legged cat creature that still stalks the woods to this day.

One thing that’s said sometimes is that it can walk upright. So what if it’s a four armed catgirl or can change into a four armed catgirl?

Story: monster hunters are coming out to search for a different cryptid when the wampus cat finds them. However she catches a couple of the fucking and decides she has a different hunger she needs to feed.

Cyberpunk:

Body modifications have advanced to encompass some pretty futuristic bioengineering, and “catgirl” has become kind of a default choice. Sort of the futuristic version of getting a tramp stamp or eyebrow piercing, while people with more taste and budget get classier, prettier and uniquer mods.

So, catgirls get stereotyped as trashy sluts - and they are! For the purposes of the story.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the connection between "cat" and "pussy" yet, have they? I assume that is part of the catgirl trope in the first place, but I'm not really an expert on the topic.

Not directly. Aside from puns. Like I think in the days of hentai DVDs being sold, the titles would get renamed as stuff “Make that Pussy Howl!” And it has a catgirl getting fucked.

Total aside but one of the crazier renames was one that got retitled: “the sexual submission of my sister” and the write up on the back is all about a guy who is dominating his sister.

The actual hentai is about a robot catgirl who is secretly a weapon of mass destruction and most of the sex scenes are people trying to interrogate each other to find out where she is…there is no sister character, lol

Another horror idea: I’m thinking sci-fi could be more fantasy

One day, people start finding catgirls wandering around. Maybe they came from space, maybe they come from the woods. In any case, after causing a stir, people adjust to them.

The catgirls vary in type and size but they all are friendly. If they are aliens they have technology that solves problems and if they are fantastical, they aren’t a burden.

Soon they are being allowed into homes to be maids and become sexual partners. There are critics but they stop complaining or stop appearing as time goes on. Soon catgirls are a part of daily life.

Then stories start coming out of people disappearing. Kids stop coming to schools, people stop coming to work.

Now a darker version would be the catgirls are butchering everyone but for this one: the catgirls are transforming people into them. Like a mom leaves her daughter with a catgirl maid and comes home to find her daughter now sporting a tail and ears.

And humans who try to fight back suddenly find what the males look like. And they are not as nice.

Could be smaller scale: small town finds out about them and they try to keep it a secret so their new neighbors are safe. Not noticing people going missing till it’s too late. By Spring, the town is abandoned and the next town over starts seeing alluring women trying to tempt them into the forest
