Welcome to the Christmas Music thread, a place to discuss all things Christmas Music. You can ask any music about it, or start a random debate.

For example I will start. Do you prefer traditional Christmas music or newer modern Christmas music?

I like a lot of traditional Christmas music, but I also like some of the non tradtional stuff. I have a mix of both on my Itunes. But my two favorite Christmas songs are traditional, Silent Night and Let Their Be Peace on Earth.

I am partial to old school and traditional Christmas music...I grew up in a household where Frank Sinatra was always playing...I love Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole at the holidays...

I don't blame you. Nat King Cole just feels like Christmas. Same with Bing Crosby. Sinatra is great ANY time of the year. Same with Dean Martin. Musically I like Martin just a little more though. I always have.

I like all the iconic Christmas songs
Karen Carpenter singing silent night is a fav

I love Martin too...

Last night I watched Charlie Brown's Christmas on tv...and just the music from that show made my heart smile...memories...sigh...

I was listening to Rush's Tom Sawyer just now...and your thread made me think of when Rush did a Christmas take on Tom Sawyer...I just remembered! now I need to find it again...

Ahhh Tom Sawyer...reminds me of my Sorority House days and the smell of doobs dancing in the air...

Interesting combination there. I know a lot of bands have turned their songs into Christmas songs, most notably Cheap Trick recording a version of "I want you to want me" into "I want you for Christmas"

Think I've said this before,

Greg lake - I believe in Father Christmas

Is my favourite Christmas song, I also enjoy john lennons - war is over, frank Sinatra - silent night, bing Crosby -little drummer boy and white Christmas

Also even though it's not a Christmas song, Jeff Buckley - hallelujah is a nice track around Christmas time too

All excellent songs as well. There are plenty of great non Christmas songs that are great around the holiday, including that. I do like Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" or Al Green and Annie Lennox "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" but I blame Scrooged for me associating that with the holidays. Thanks for contributing!

i love this thread idea, thank you.

i'll have to mirror the original poster's comment about enjoying both traditional and contemporary christmas songs. though i tend to always fall back on smooth jazz vocals and instrumentals, there is something so remarkable about listening to tony bennett sing "have yourself a merry little christmas." the man is timeless: maintaining that outstanding voice his entire career.

have yourself a merry little christmas : tony bennett

i'll leave a contemporary jazz selection as well. boney james is an amazing artist, you'll almost forget for a few seconds that he's playing christmas music.

I have a Pandora station devoted to Christmas songs - seeded with Run, Run Rudolph.

However, this one always makes me smile.

I can honestly say I have never heard of him or the song but that is a true country Christmas song! I liked it! Thanks for sharing!

First off you can rarely go wrong with Tony Bennett. Secondly I agree, it's easy to see especially in this piece that he is playing a Christmas song, just get wrapped up in the song it self. Thanks to both of you for sharing!

One of my all time favorite bands is Queen. Not a lot of people know they made a Christmas song. This is supposedly the official video for it, though I am not sure since it's clips of other Queen videos. But I hope you will like it!

And of course, who can ever forget Cheech & Chong's "Santa Claus & His Old Lady"

CM: (Playing piano) "Mamamasita, donde esta Santa Cleese...the vecto wit da
Bony knees...he comin' down da street wit no choos on his feet...and he's
Going to..." No, no, that's ain't it...

"Mamamasita, donde esta Santa Claus...da guy wit da hair on his jaws...he's..." Nah.

Hey, man, come over here, man. I need some help, man.
