Perhaps, if you approved the pending threads on the story, writers would be able to continue those threads, thus keeping the story near the top of the list for longer parts of the month.

I have two more threads to add to my Striptease thread, but can't since you haven't approved them. And there are two other writers waiting for approval.

My comment was just a little over-sarcastic. But I have found that the way to get a story in the top ten is to keep updating it. Nothing like new threads to keep people reading. I know for me, I rarely go looking for new stories outside the first 2-3 pages of Newest Stories.

I have to agree with Torg, it is obvious that most people only read stories towards the top of the most recently updated list, which is a shame as I am sure there are some great stories being neglected as they aren't getting updated anymore. Wouldnt it be great to have a list of stories that have maybe reached a point where no more is needed to be added... a short of archieve list.

Anyway, Im aiming for a top ten story as well this month, and have maybe neglected other (slightly more important?) matters to achieve this. And, if you include "Lucy The Sexy Neighbour" as one of my stories (I have written 75% of it afterall), then I could manage two in the top ten.

However, my main aim is now to get Dani's Wild Night up there, as this is my pride and joy right now. And on this note, any suggestions on why no one else seems to be contributing to this story, or is that a very common thing? and what about voting and feedback, does anyone ever bother to do either or is it now a fairly pointless part of the site??

You could try adding threads to other people's stories. You could try continuing the storylines others have added to your story.

Yes i see your point about people being put off by the size of it already, but that is much to do with the fact the story took about 6 months to get approved due to the fact chyoo was not being updated for ages at that time. As to adding to what others have done, well, that is only two threads and i was hoping the writers of these were going to add on to them themselves.

I have added to a couple of other stories, and i am sure i will again soon, its just a matter of finding something i feel i could i want to add to.

If too much time has passed, the red marks go away.

Try doing a search on the story title and click on "show results as threads". The most recent ones will be at the top. One of the quirks is that a thread becomes new if someone rates it, but not if someone edits it.

I don't know, I get the feeling that if you write too deep into a story people are afraid to touch it... you know, they don't want to mess up the flow. My opinion anyways, I don't exactly follow that thinking myself, ironically. I tend to add to threads that get my juices flowing... mental juices that is... well the other too, but that's a given here, isn't it?

I can't decide if I like this top 20 or not. On one hand its good to see what is being read, but at the same time, I worry if maybe it hasn't caused a little bit of unsporting behaviour to go on.

The viewing figures are very open to abuse, simply going in to a story's introduction, then back to home page and then back into the story is a quick way to add a few extra viewing figures for a start.

Then there is the issue of people making sure their story is on the front page of the fresh stories. Now if this is by adding new threads, thats fine, afterall, it keeps the active stories upfront, but all too often I am seeing stories on the front page that have just a handful of threads and yet keep reappearing. The way to do this is to just keep voting on the same thread as this then counts the story as updated and brings it to the top of the list.

The same problem exists with the "Top Stories", I'm sure everyone has noticed how all the so-called top stories by votes have only one or two threads, and yet have ratings of over 4. The rating system is a good idea to allow feedback and suchlike, but sreriously flawed in how it counts the votes, because if you look at the details, many good stories show a rating of under 1, which i assume is because the total votes are divided by views and not actually the number of people who rated the thread, definetly a flaw somewhere.

Anyway, just a few thoughts on the issue, but id still like to say well done to everyone who made it into the top 20, i made 21, mainly cos i was away for two weeks so my main story went fairly neglected, I may try to get it up there again this month if i find the time though.

Am I looking at the same list? As fifth currently is 4th quarter of the superbowl, in which the deepest thread is two? One problem is it's tricky to know what is going on with the Non-English stories.

That would be the most popular list, which is the ones done by rating. as you can see, all the top stories in this list have very few votes, rendering that list completely useless as an indication of what stories people actually like.

There is obviously an error in the coding, as the average rating for stories seems to somehow get reduced the bigger the story is. If you look at your own stories, the average rating is totally different to that which shows up when you look at the list of stories, the total rating figure must be divided by something other than the number of votes received.

You cannot vote on the same thread more than once.

The trouble with the rating system is when any story is highly rated, some mean person comes along and gives the story a bunch of 1s. It's just happened to my story Fun at the Mall which was in the Top 5.

But who gave that story a five to begin with?? Its a prime example of my point about the uselessness of the ratings system. That story has a single thread that is basically an introduction and yet was top of the ratings?? Im sure it could lead to a very good story, but trhere is no way a one thread introduction should be highlighted as the most popular story around!!!!

The system should work whereby only stories with a certain number of votes are included.

And how on earth can a one thread story have recewived 472 views already? SOmething fishy there id suggest.
