There is no known cure for herpes. Once you get it, you have it for life!! You can get herpes A or B in either place, mouth or crotch. So, a sore in your mouth can be spread to her genitals, as a sore in her mouth can spread to yours. So, abstain from kissing and sex until it crusts over or closes up, and the itching & burning pain subsides. Don't spread this around to other people. You can get rid of ghonerrea, syphillus, clamidia, warts, crabs, and several other things, but NOT HERPES or AIDS! Well, some people have survived HIV, but no one has been cured of herpes. It does get less and less severe over time, like 30 years, but will always come back at the most inopertune times in your life, like weddings, vacations, graduation, interviews, or whenever you least need it to happen.Iveo said:thx so much MsKey for your adive!

sheath said:Okay. Conflicting information here.
So let me ask some questions, because I'm confused as fuck at this point.

If a person has an ordinary, run-of-the-mill cold sore on his/her mouth, can it transmit herpes to the genital area?
YES
What is the difference in the strains of the herpes virus?
SLIGHT DNA DIFFERENCES, BUT THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR.
Scenario: A man goes down on a woman. He has a cold sore. She breaks out with lesions. Does this indicate genital herpes?
YES!
And finally...
How do you tell which strain of herpes you have? Does a cold sore indicate something completely different from 'genital' herpes?
ONLY DETAILED TESTING CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE, AND THAT IS USUALLY NOT WORTH THE TIME OR TROUBLE. THE SYMPTOMS ARE SIMILAR. I DOUBT IF EVEN THE DOCTORS ARE AWARE OF THE DIFFERENCES IN THE OUTBREAKS OR SYMPTOMS BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE SLIGHT, AND NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. ONE CAN HAVE HERPES 1 & 2 IN BOTH PLACES!!! THERE's A GOOD CHANCE THAT I DO! See sources in the other post. MF

I'm hoping someone can answer those questions, back them up with sources, and thus clear up the conflicting information...

In spite of my earlier admission, I have taken precautions and used abstinance at many times when I didn't want to abstain, and I don't think I have ever given it to someone else.Imi said:Who cares if it's Herpes 1 or 2? Herpes is Herpes and it's no fun.
I picked mine up from sharing lipstick with a friend who had it during a play in HS. Thankfully I don't have breakouts very often, but they're unsightly and painful. I've been with hubby now for 18 years and I've not passed it on to him, at least he's never broken out with one. So I suppose the moratorium on kissing him or going down on him has worked.
Abreva is worth every penny if you can apply it as soon as you feel it coming on. If you wait, it doesn't work as well. But it stopped my sore from a full bloom and cut the amount of time I had to deal with it by a week.
Cold sores are not caused by cold viruses. That is just a nice way to talk about them that other people will accept without saying "EWWWW!"shy little fairy said:i hate cold sores
thank god i've only gotten 3 in my lifetime.
it could be the herpes type 1 (the oral one), which i do believe i read CAN be spread to the genitals and alter slightly.
there are also some cold sores that just happen periodically and w/ an actual cold, from THAT virus coming out through the skin (which is the kind i have had). however, if you find yourself constantly getting them it is probably the herpes thing.
