Colony 5309

$1.25

For what it's worth I agree with the majority. The story will seem much more smooth if we're all not jumping from one scene to another pulling eveyone along. The dinner can go on and not everyone has to bet there ore even eat at the same time. The same can be said for nearly every scenario ahead of us...

I don't know if I can committ to EVERY day, but I'll certainly try *soft smile*...

msboy, we did chat last night about me npc'ing you so that Dom, Messa and Lance could get to the shelter site. My last post last night was talking with Messa as you led the way in your indominible way Lt. *G

There is a variety of bamboo, the fastest growing grass in the world btw some varieties up to 2' per day in proper conditions (Jeapordy here I come *L*), so no problem with that at all.

Let's just let it continue under it's own steam at it's own pace from this point onward and see what happens. How's that sound?

:) Why i picked it. I've see a lot of sci-fi the ones about terra forming mars really strike my intrest. now if your going to set up a colony some where and are going to need lots of cheap and easy to aqurie building materials what would you use? Well bamboo came to mind. So it made sense a Space ships crash landing kit would include the faster growing versions of Bamboo. So people could set up camp and then have a workable crop of bamboo for baskets, rope (not as good as hemp but makes strong stuff ancients used it to spending bridges i've just learned.) and Chairs. Hell you can make Bows and arrows in case of complete loss of power and still have something to hunt with. anyway moving on.

Question though with the fastest variety and thousands of years of advanced genetics. How fast could that stuff be going? Because i was thinking the fastest stuff was like 6 inches per day and your saying 2 feet?

Skip that i looked it up and found this

"Bamboo can outgrow any other plant in the world. It is as if its entire lifespan is one enormous growth spurt. To see for himself how fast bamboo can grow, Janssen once marked a stalk while visiting a bamboo plantation. He remembers taking a walk around the plantation and returning again to the marked stalk. "In two hours, it had grown above the mark by a few centimeters," he says. A Japanese scientist once measured what is believed to be the fastest growth rate for any bamboo. A culm of ma-dake, Japan's most common bamboo, grew nearly four feet in one 24-hour day. " More on bamboo

Here’s the catch though. it take a bit longer to Root. So we'll say that's where the advanced genetic Technologies came in. I think that if a race can manage space flight, developing faster growing food should be easy. They just added beta-carotene to Rice (look up popular science it's a big thing.), maybe in the future they could add all the essential nutrients to it super rice. Hey why not Super tea too, red-bull and megaantioxidant in a plant. 2 am talking now. I’ll write more when my thinking is on track.

And one you won't see on Jeapordy, during WWII some Japanese would slice off bamboo at a 45 degree angle a foot or so above the ground so there was a 'bed' of sharpened plants and tie GI's across it as a torture/execution method. They let it grow through them.
Bsmboo is still extensively used for scaffolding because it's light and because of it's stregnth and as you mentioned Aaron for bridges as it has a higher pull or stretching strength than steel, although it shear/cutting resistance is lower than steel's.

I guess this should be the more than I ever wanted to know about bamboo post. *LOL*

No problem with the super rice and other crops, just takes time to plant and grow even with accelerated growth rates.

Just sent me a PM on a cool character idea. However my reply was blocked due to full inbox. hoping she's checking here and at the same time ask you all of you think it's getting crowded? Her character idea was for another person from the latest Crash.

I don't see a problem Aaron. In a while some will be leaving to explore anyway so that will spread us out from the main group/site.

180 days 50 years ago for rice. Now it's 110 ten. with the longer days and Advances in technology i'm going to say 3 months or 90ish days. for this crews crop.

Telekinetic Carbon-Fiber weaving?

Telekinetic Carbon-Fiber weaving?

Too far fetched or intresting?

TK is using mental powers to effect physical matter or things so why not, but I think it better if we remain at lower 'survior' tech levels for the most part and work with what we can fix or make from ship parts and by ourselves.
What does everyone else think?

I like what you said PP01. If it gets too complicated ppl aren't going to like it.

un wind

Oh i was just going to make a sweater. not anything High tech.. he's a monk he dont use much science.

Uh huh Aaron, a carbon fiber sweater, one of threads stronger than steel, just a sweater.
Nice try *LOL.

Was this sweater going to have any special sexual significance? This is an SRP thread. Just wondering...

Sputtering BOL* Hmmmm, a stronger than steel sweater with perhaps a groin sheath the doubles as a dildo "between sexual times while recovering" perhaps or is TK used to keep it hard as long as needed while telepathy triggers orgasm after orgasm?

And you call me a dirty old man PP01? What's the Japanese word for "Dirty Old Man"?

Arigato*g*, but I have no clue msboy. Oh and did I remember to mention the optional butt plug? *LOL

Arigato=thank you in Japanese just in case.

Funny PP01, the word is "Scabe". Just another thing I got from 3 years in Okinawa...

All teflon coated so it's self lubricating and thanks. Always happy to learn a new word.
Really close to scabie though isn't it? Ewwwwwwwwwww. *L

Sweater

I weezer song comes to mind. You all are tearing me up.

Using Buckeyball Carbon + Carbon bonded Fiber is actually 100 times the strength of steel. Though twice as hard as steel to bend it can be folded back onto it's self and snap back with out damage. It’s also the only composite to conduct electricity. Oh ya it conducts heat twice as good as diamond. Did I mention it’s lighter the aluminum? And the funny thing is this stuff isn’t Sci-fi it’s being manufactured right now. It’s just not cheap enough to mass-produce yet. There are three ways to manufacture it, a Vapor chemical method, a Pulse laser method and twisted electronic current thingy I couldn’t make head’s or tails of. Reading all about it made me want sure as hell to buy stock in it.

How this happened, Well anyway I was looking up Steel manufacturing and ended up looking up carbon fiber and it lead to this stuff. I wanted him to be able to do something amazing and realized with a bit of Chemistry and engineering a Kinetic could do some really far out shit. This all is the tip of the iceburg. Though this is as far as I’m going to go in this story.

The point of the sweater was going to be a gift, or something. I just thought well if your going to make a sweater and Gold is as abundant as lead why use the lead eh? it was knitting or bamboo basket weaving. Which I think he’ll be doing tomorrow unless I find the chemical composites of silk and find out they are available here.

FYI did you all know they have genetically engineered Goats to give milk with the required Chemicals to make silk? That’s some straight ass Frankenstein shit there.

BTW Iron and Steel making are relatively easy if we find ore. You take the ore heat it tell the metal melts pore off the pure iron on top. Put it in a clay pot fire it for 4 days.(carbonizes it.) and it makes a Sponge Iron that you pound the air out of to make steel. Which I always thought was a metal mixture. But it’s really Pure Iron and Carbon.

Wonder what diamond dust and Uranium would make… Hey that’s what the Ships hull is made out of a composite of Carbon Diamond and Uranium. The densest and hardest composite chemically mathematically possible depleated uranium of corse. Anyone know what the nose of the Space shuttle is made of?

Oh yea something you all would love to hear. Tomorrow SAKE!!

You take rice boil it. Seal it and after a few days the Yeast in the air starts doing that fermenting thing and changes the rice to sugar then sugar to alcohol. You skim the top, boil that to kill bacteria and WHAM! 20% alcohol per volume.

I didn’t know it was so easy. Now making it taste good is the trick.

OMG you don't know? it's so easy it's scary. If you want a Womans pants off you give her new ones. mo ha ha ha.. mo ha ha ha..

Alcohol and clothes my plan is developing.

sukebe (skay-bay) means a perv, not necessarily old. Old man is oyaji (o-yah-gee) - and aren't all old men dirty? Young ones too, come to think of it. ;)

Hey, hey Tanuki, I shower or bathe so I'm not dirty. *chuckling* and I'm to experienced in my chosen lifestyle to be a mere perv, I'm a PROvert and proud of it. *LOL*
