Hi Guys, I am so sorry that I wasn't able to make it last night, I feel terrible, because Sly you are right, I did help set this up. I feel terrible, but I spent yesterday afternoon, and last night at St Josephs with my little girl, who had a 103 fever. No choice for me on that one. Again, I am sorry. :(

Hopefully this time it can be set up on a day when everyone is free. I think the time you guys had it set up for (wasn't it like 5:00) is good, especially for us since we have to plan on about an hours trip. That way we wouldn't have to worry about it being all late when we leave. Hopefully we can get something set up. :)

Well I know Im new so my opinion wont be much regarded, thats cool, but heres the deal, the way I figure it anyone who was actually interested WOULD have gone saturday, since they didnt I dont think they should be forced to attend by setting some high priority "oh you better come" rule, make a more private event if its only going to be a couple folks, and then have a real party ! then all those who said "oh Ill be there" and werent will have something to brood about missing

I think the problem was that so many people said they would be there and didn't show up it's not very considerate of the other people. Granted life happens and stuff comes up but in reality not everyone had something just coem up without any warning and it's disapointing to those of us who made the attempt to get down there.

Okay now I feel bad. ... *sighs*... like I said earlier, we made it, just a bit later than planned.

I agree with everyone else, it was disappointing going downtown and not meeting up with everyone who said they were going to be there. BUT, life does happen...

What say we try this again later?

Soylent, just because you're "new" to the board doesn't mean that your opinion is any less "valuable" than that of some ol' "mossy back" like me. I may not always agree with your opinion, but like Patrick Henry (I think it was...) said, "I'll fight to the death for your right to express it".

My point was (and is) that if someone makes a committment to attend a function they should make every effort to fulfill that commitment. But really, I was just kind of blowing off steam because of the times in the past that when a planned event was ruined by people just not showing up after assuring me they would be there. Like the time I catered an event for a group and over half of the people invited decided at the last minute that they had "something more important to do" and I had to throw out a LOT of leftover food...

Barkley there is no need to apologise for that. That's absolutely the best reason in the world for not being there. I'm so sorry about your little girl and sincerely hope that she's okay. You're absolutely right; you had no choice on that one, so don't give it another thought. And let's get busy planning another one sometime soon...

Thanks Sly, i still feel bad, but mainly because I really wanted to go. I agree with BBW, and am sorry you guys were by yourselves. Thanks for understanding :)

Well, maybe we should schedule a party at the "Mon Chalet"! I'll bring my "spice rack". [For all you "out-of-towners", the "Mon Chalet" is a clothing optional, adult motel near the corner of Colfax and Peoria, in Aurora that caters primarily to swingers parties - great place :D :p ]

I think I read somewhere that large doses of Oregano is supposed to be an aphrodisiac isn't it? Cayene pepper is supposed to be hot too:)

I'm a native of Colorado, but damned if I can figure out where "P.W." is  :)

Im sorry but went once to mon chalet with my ex, we were very much outnumbered by very much older, very unattractive swingers, the place was seedy and grubby, dont think Ill be going back anytime soon, there needs to be a club for younger folks, something classy, not some hole in the wall full of wrinkled old horny bi guys and thier saggy wives, no offense, was just my personal experience there.

"NO OFFENSE"??? Soylent you just crossed the line with that stupid, agist remark and at the risk of starting a "flaming" battle I do take offense at that statement. "Now you're goring my ox!" While I might agruably fit your description of a "wrinkled old horny bi guy" my wife is certainly not "saggy", thank you very much. And I'd a hell of a lot rather make love to her and a lot of other women like her than most of the, pierced, hair dyed, bubble headed "eye candy" bimbos that you seem to prefer.

I also noticed that you went a long way back in the thread to find something to complain about (clear back to page 2 and a post that was made more than a year ago...)

And now your choice of a handle makes perfect sense even though you never responded to someone's question if it came from the movie "Soylent Green" - Seem pretty obvious to me...

If you ever do find that "classy club for younger folks" I hope that you will post the location so that people with a bit more "class' than you seem to have to be able to avoid it like the plague.

Yeah... All of the above. And I, too, have a tendency to say what I mean - but I usually try to put my brain in gear before I engage my mouth... And, as far as I'm concerned that's the end of this discussion...

dont pull some tough guy bullshit with me, end of discussion my ass, you want to get your word in, but mines disregarded huh? well let me tell you something, you might be older but youve got alot to learn about people, I mean do you go around whining like this when you are offended in real life? after all this is a discussion board, and I was merely discussing my experience, in fact aside from using your post to reply, I dont recall saying ANYTHING directly to, or about you, so if you want to get your panties in a bunch, thats on you. I was stating my opinion on a place, for the benefit of anyone here who might not have been, you gave a good experience, I gave a bad one. Its as simple as that, now you wanna pull this "oh you gored my ox", and "this is the end of the discussion" banter on me ? I dont know what your problem is, and I dont really care, this is a discussion forum, and thats what Ill do, and if you find it offensive, then ignore me, I could really care less.

Since I do "find it offensive" that's exactly what I intend to do...

oh brother

OK Sheesh, look guys I think you both are just very strong minded people and that's great...but everyone is entitled to an opinion, and we shouldn't tear others down for having one. Even though we may not like it. So, since both of you are very nice and interesting people why not just let bygones be bygones.

I agree, I dont care if you like the mon chalet, thats your bag, hell go with it, besides I dont even know you (slyfox) why would I care ? by the way FYI the movie was based on the novel by Harry Harrison, published in 1966.

The events in the book and took place in 1999. The movie changed the date to 2022. I don't see it happning...but there are a few people I wouldn't mind eating.

Soylent Green

"Soylent Green" was a scifi cult movie that came out in the 1970's having as it's main theme that when any person reached the age of 30 they were required by law to "suicide" in a very spectacur way (or was that Logan's Run???)and their bodies were then converted in to a food substance called "Soylent":

From The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction

Based on "Make Room! Make Room! (1966) by Harry Harrison

"A New York ploice detective (Heston) in an AD2022 marked by overpopulation investigates what appears to be a routine murder and in the end discovers that "soylent green", the main food for the world's population, is actually made from dead human bodies. The plot has little to do with Harrison's book, whose pro-contraception message it nervously avoids for fear of alienating Roman Catholic viewers (Harrison has spoken eloquently of the perversion of his work), but the vision of a teeming, overpopulated and festering New York is recreated quite well. The cannibalistic denouement is purely for shock value, and makes no relational sense; indeed Harrison coined the word "soylent" from "soy beans" and "lentils", and the people of his future are largely and necessarily vegetarian. Edward G. Robinson's fine performance as a dying old man coaxed into a euthanasia clinic is touching, for he was dying in real life as well. The film won a Nebula."

Man, my mind is so one tracked. I read all of the last few posts, and the only one that sicks is warm weather=skimpy clothes. Thank you Cricketbug, i like the sound of that!!!!!!!!!!:D

Actually the plot you describe is logans run .

Logan's Run tells the story of a dystopia. The year is 2274. The place is a domed city, led by a nearly-omnipotent computer. It is a world of nearly perfect hedonism and equality. The only responsibility most people have is to enjoy themselves. They can relax, they can take their favorite recreational drugs, they can have mutually enjoyable sex without commitment or fear of reproduction. As they age and enjoy this wonderland, the small jewel on their hands called the life clock changs color, from white, to yellow, to blue, to green, to red. On one's 30th birthday, it blinks red and it is time to participate in the ritual of Carousel.

To those of us watching from our movie theater seats, it is obvious that Carousel is a mixture of population control and entertainment. Those who are 30 are killed to make way for more citizens. Those watching from the ampitheater get to enjoy the spectacle. In the inner logic of the city's residents, however, Carousel is a glorious chance for rebirth and renewal: the shower of sparks and fire that consumes each participant is not a brutal murder but an orgasmic, ecstatic return to the womb. The chants echo throughout the colliseum. Renew! Renew! Renew!

On the other hand however soylent green the movie plotline
also contained what was called death clinics, where citizens were encourage to "make space" so to speak, as the movie and book both paint a very overpopulated world, this excerpt taken from a transcipt of the movie reads

"This terrible truth is also too much for Robinson to bear, and he, too, decides that death is preferable to living with this secret. In this future world, citizens are encouraged to chose to die by going to a place referred to as 'Home'. At this beautiful death clinic, Robinson is made comfortable, by being shown movies and pictures on a wide screen of how Earth once was. While classic music is playing, Robinson beholds movies of running brooks, forest of trees and running dear which he vaguely remembers on Earth of yester-year. Returning to their apartment, Heston finds a note from Robinson stating that he is tired and wanted to go 'Home'. In a panic, Heston rushes to the death clinic to try to stop Robinson from his suicide. But just prior to being injected with a painless but lethal narcotic, Robinson tells Heston what he's discovered about the horrifying truth behind 'Soylent Green'.",

Though as you pointed out sly, the book and movie are two entirely different entities, as is often the case in book to movie
translations...

And I still have to ask you, why is my name so offensive to you ?

Soylent said:

I didn't say your name was "so offensive" to me. What I said was "your choice of name makes perfect sense to me"... in light of what I considered to be a derogatory and agist remark. I also find the idea of eating "reprocessed" human remains (i.e. "Soylent Green") to be extremely repugnant.

I had no problem with your characterization of "The Mon Chalet" as "seedy" - I've never been there so I could hardly dispute your impression of the place - only your description of the other people who happened to be there the time you attended. I do, however, know several people who do go to "Mon Chalet" occassionally and thoroughly enjoy it. And while they may not be "Barbie & Ken" lookalikes, I would hardly describe any of them as disparagingly as you did. That's what offended me.

Wow, quite the discussion I just happened upon.
Soylent Green and Logan's Run -- two of my top 10 sci-fi movies.
Sly, I would never have described you as either 'old' nor 'saggy'. However, the lively conversation is not so bad.

Please keep me posted on the next get together. I sent my regrets prior, so I am off the hook for missing! :)
I hope those that did show had a great time, sounds like it!
I am curious, how did you set it up before hand that people would recognize each other?

Did anyone brave the weather last night to attend the Matthew Shepard Benefit? I threw on a puffy dress and drove the 2 hours to Denver (it was white-out conditions up north)...it was a very lovely event. I met Matthew's mother, very strong woman. Along with some emerging CO political figures and a handfull of drag queens! Let me know if anyone else was there.

Ok, that's all for me. I am off to explore the Longmont nightlife...as I laugh to myself knowing there is no such thing.

Take care everyone one.
