The phone call was filled with devastation. There was nothing left for him except to hang up the phone. And with that final beep, that sound mostly ignored, his relationship had ended. The biggest party of the year and she had to dump him on that night. Rob wasn’t crushed. It was just another youthful romance filled with booze, wild nights and meaningless sex. That was gone. And so was his ‘in’ to the party.

Tossing the cell onto his bed he took to the stairs down toward the kitchen, pouring himself a glass of water. As he took it down he stared at the burgeoning clouds in the sky. Draining the glass he set it in the sink as a light drizzle settled in. Not that the light rain was going to hamper the party. There’d still be people playing in the rain outside.

The feeling of wanting to go to the party grew within him the more he thought about it. Rob knew his sister would be able to get in which ultimately formed his decision to leave the kitchen and head toward her room. Three knocks on the door were delivered through his knuckle before he turned the handle, stepping inside.

“Sis? I have something I want to ask you.”

Esmeralda was lying on her back, reading, when her baby brother knocked on the door with his signature 3-raps, then came inside. She sat up attentively. It was always a pleasure whenever he came in, something he rarely did anymore, now that he thought he was an independant teenager. She noticed at once when he came in that something was off with him.

"Sure, Rob," she said, shifting over to sit on the side of her bed. "Is everything okay?"

"Just a sec!" called his sister Alice from inside her room, followed by several loud coughs. These were followed with the sounds of an air freshener bottle being sprayed and finally, "OK, come in." She splayed out on her bed casually. She had recently moved back into her old room after only six months of being gone. She had gotten kicked out of the girls dorms for... violations she refused to confirm or deny. Mom and Dad had been slightly annoyed, but didn't want to deny her a place to live.

"Oh dude, its you," she said with a little relief in her voice, "whats up little bro?"

Rob patiently waited outside Alice’s door before she called him in. Quietly he wondered exactly what she was up to but decided against asking as she called him in. Turning the knob and pressing on the door to open he looked inside and around the room. A few things had changed since she’d returned. It was a welcome change to have his sister return home. It could’ve been a lonely place with just him around even if he tried to stay away from home as often as possible.

Moving toward her bed he invited himself to sit down as he looked toward his sister. There was no easy way to say it, to ask your sister to get you into a party by pretending to be a date so he decided to just say it. “The girl that I’ve been seeing, well, things are kind of over. I’m not too broken up about it but there was this party we were supposed to go to and I was thinking about trying to find someone who could get in. Maybe make her a little jealous. And I know you have an invite…” Rob couldn’t help but ramble on, knowing what he was doing even as he was talking so he just stopped talking, his eyes looking sidelong toward his sister.

Alice shifted on her bed, cocking her head in amusement at her brother's rambling. "Wait, so let me see if I'm getting this... you need my +1 to get in, which is cool, but the next part... you want to make your ex jealous so you want me to be your... date?"

“Something like that,” Rob admitted easily. Now that he had said what he needed to say, the rest was going to be easy. “There just isn’t enough time for me to find anyone else and you’re… convenient. Its only one night,” he ended as he began to stand. “If you don’t want to you should tell me now so I can try to find someone.”
