Comments that leave you shaking your head

Pretty sure that's one of the signs of the apocalypse.
This is only surprising if we want to form groups in LW based on misogyny. However, I still believe that the main dividing line is monogamy versus ENM.
In cases of cheating, the question is the sincerity of remorse and the possibility of restoring trust. Public opinion can be incredibly harsh here—but harshness means credibility. In credible cases, except for a few deluded BTBs, reconciliation takes place to everyone's satisfaction. A recent example worth looking at is the stories entitled The Prophet's Wife or The Need and the comments to them.

I'll check those out. Thanks.

I just had a non-erotic urban fantasy short story go live. It features the hint of a dragon living under a hill. Engagement has been encouraging, but I just received an anon comment which basically said:

"There is evidence in Europe and China for dragons. This evidence is artwork. They lived longer than people think. But then, people refuse to accept that the Flood happened."

My unproven (and uprovable) theory is that people came across dinosaur (and other similar) fossils and came to the conclusion that they were the bones of some creatures we had not seen alive. Why stone bones? Er, possibly they breathed fire. Er, I've heard tales from travellers about monstrous lizards in far-off lands. I've found stone bones from massive wings. Er, maybe some of these monsters could fly!
But on the matter of European and Chinese Dragons, they are very different. European ones are either four-legged and two-winged fire drakes, two-winged and two-legged wyverns, or wingless and legless wyrms that lived underground and did not fly. Chinese ones are legless and wingless, with snake-like bodies, but fly in the clouds.

I've gotten a few comments on different stories about them being "totally unbelievable"
The rest of the comment is usually positive, and I do appreciate feedback,
but my dude, my guy, my buddy, my pal.
My stories are all in the T/I category.
I dont know what world you live in, but outside of the occasional "long lost relative we found out we were related by doing 23andme", pretty much every story in the T/I category is unrealistic.
It's fantasy. Suspend your disbelief. At least its not the millionth iteration of "help me step bro, I'm stuck in this space that is obviously large enough to get out of without having you pound me into the carpet"

“This shouldn’t be in Romance. 1*”

Decided after mulling it over today, to do something I haven’t done before: I deleted those comments, which were identical to each other, all posted as anonymous, off my stories where they had been posted all in one go, overnight.

Like - I can put my stories in whatever category I want, but also, I think the musings about two people living, working and enjoying themselves in a long build up of two novel’s worth of material which is mostly (in my view) The Notebook sort of level of stories probably is definitely in the Romance category, right?

(and to be clear: I am not saying my writing is as good as The Notebook, only that it is also Romance!)

I would not delete them. I'm not ashamed that someone downvotes my story simply because he disagrees with it.

Absolutely 100%. There are quite a number of snobs in the romance genre that get very upset if you stray from the template: read their template. They are extremely judgmental. Fuck them. I've been lambasted in this forum over this very topic. You have a story that the plot (and even the eroticism) is based squarely on the attraction and emotions between two people in a relationship. Don't ever let anyone tell you that that does not belong in romance. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.

I hope that it's better than The Notebook. The Notebook SUCKS! (vomit!)

And I applaud that, but when it was on every single one of my stories, it became less about freedom of speech and more about railroading me into changing my own freedom of speech. So they’re gone - maybe they will repost them! And I’ll reconsider my views again then.

Appreciate this point of view, I was worried in my own head I was overthinking it.

To each their own! I hope you get a chance to read my work, and if so, I look forward to hearing your views (for better or worse!) - I must also get round to reading some of yours. I fear the “to read on Lit” pile grows ever bigger by the day…!

I got a 1 word comment on one of my oldest, but most read story.

Nasty

That's it. No idea if that's good or bad. I don't even think it's a nasty story; pretty tame by Lit standards I think. IDK, it made me laugh when I saw it though.

Normally, two star scores are associated with bombing. But Anon read two of my LW stories yesterday and gave me detailed reasoning as to why he was only giving 2 stars. Most of his comments relate to aspects that I regard as features rather than bugs (ie, yes, the stories were written like that deliberately, but he just didn't like them). But I do appreciate that somebody goes to the effort of explaining why they're marking hard, and then reading another story just to be sure that he doesn't like my work. It takes effort: it's authentic. Looking forward to him reading the whole catalogue.

2-stars. The story had more of a fantasy vibe than fiction. It was like a long dream sequence. It’s hard to reconcile the supposed intelligence of the group with the idiotic actions they take. I mean really, none of these geniuses thought it would be a good idea to get fertility testing before swapping? That detail seemed artificially contrived and kinda shifted this into a fantasy story early on. Also, the marriages don’t seem to be that loving given how nonchalant Lily’s attitude was about it “ending in tears.”

All of the emotions are too muted which gave it the dreamlike vibe. Jim doesn’t respond at all after finding out his wife gave Steve anal and eagerly sucked his dick. Both of which, she didn’t do for him. Steve walking out and slamming the door as his display of anger after finding out his has been made the ultimate cuckold made me laugh. You see, the most natural emotion for a man is anger. Boiling hot anger. It’s part of our innate protective nature. An intrinsic quality left behind from our ancestors. Again, the passivity of the male characters gave into the dreamlike vibe. The writing was good, I just didn’t care for the story.

2-stars. Too much liberal academia to be enjoyable. Terminating a pregnancy without discussing it with your husband is a good way to destroy a marriage. The wife was a piece of shit for doing that and despite the words, that will never be forgotten. These two idiots deserve each other if for no other reason than to not taint the rest of decent society. The whole COVID fear had me laughing my ass off.

I imagine it was said like:

*Breathlessly sexy* Oh, Statius, baby, that was nasty... You naughty, naughty thing.

Yeah okay, sure. Typos happen. But what did you think of the STORY? 🙄

WTF is "reddinging slightly"?

I suspect you meant "reddening slightly", which should be what any normal straight female would experience in this situation.

Just call me an SGN*, it's my mission in life to whine about "other people's" grammar & spelling mistakes 😁😉

A related question, if I may. I know a lot of us, particularly those with feminine pen names, have initially received a number of 'comments' which were the verbal equivalent of dick pics. (Why? No, on second thought, I don't want to know. Pitiful at best.)

My question isn’t about those sordid communications. Rather, has anybody else received real, straight-up comments on your stories, comments which are actually high praise, but written like a first-person POV porn script? Detailed description of how hard/wet they are, orgasm counts, toys used, lube brand, etc? I mean, I’m flattered and positive feedback is always nice, but how is one supposed to react to those?

Not to diminish the experience of women who get these thinly disguised unwanted advances at all... but occasionally us guys get some awkward comments too.

Like, dude, I'm glad you liked the story. But I don't need to know your creepy thoughts about your daughter 😬
