Comments That Make Your Day

I mean, I can offer part two in a couple of months. If it ever turns into a book series ("Law & Disorder"?) you'll be the first to know.
I'll be happy with part two of 'Law and Disorder' :) Love that you're writing more of those two.

It's really, really appreciated when other authors take the time to read and comment. Thank you @THBGato and @Rob_Royale for these kind words on 'A Crack In The Glass':

THBGato: Elements of bildungsroman as well as travelogue here. Very vivid, sensitive and enjoyable, with a really hopeful ending.

Rob: This was a wonderful journey of self discovery. And pretty damn well written if I'm any judge. Well done.

If I could consistently approach the skill of these two authors, I'd be a happy man. And I don't mind admitting that I had to look up Bildungsroman, and now I know!

I rarely have comments of any kind to report, but today I got a long, intelligent one from, of all people, @Stacnash for my Naked. I'd just become aware of them a few days ago when a very negative comment was brought to AH (I THINK it was AH). Stacnash got no respect from us authors. So this was pretty interesting to me. They don't have a presence here in the forums, so this is what I posted as my own comment.

Well, gee,Stacnash, thanks! I heartily appreciate the time you spent commenting. I'd quibble with some of your minor points and would have to go back to the story to check on others, but your positives were so to the point (in my humble opinion) that I didn't mind. Attention is all, I guess.

In particular, thank you for this: "I’d be happy to read more of your stuff because there’s a wholly uncompromising nature to the way you write. I get the impression that you don’t really care about anything other than depicting your own fantasy on the page, but you’ve found a way for it to work with short-form content like this. You could end up as one of the most potent writers of strokers on the entire website."

Always nice to get a comment from another writer.

Eosphorus 1 day ago
I loved this. Great premise, enticing cast, endless possibilities. I particularly like how the ladies constitute a spectrum of female loveliness. Plus-sized to slender, for example. Well done, Rob.

A few more comments on The Hardwood Son: A Fairy Tale.

@Lumiere_Amie's comment took a long time to get through moderation:

And @Ghostwriter100 also recognised the Pinichio angle:

In the meantime I plugged my older voyeur story Pas de Trois over on Bluesky, and @Eosphorus checked it out and left these kind words:

... and over on Bluesky he added:

(I agree that the scene with the ballet dancer by herself at the end is what makes the story.)

Thanks, everyone, for reading and commenting!
I’m happy I made your day!

Sorry for the slow response. I don’t pop in here often.

Got a great comment from @ca2dc, although he (or she) probably didn't think it was glowing:
Fun story! While most will consider it impossible in real life. I married a “Lisa” who if buzzed enough, would definitely jump in 2nd, if her bestie went first. Pre-kids her limits were tied to the group dynamics, which led to some FUN times.

Story wise, enjoyed it, but you seem to have some self imposed limits that the fun. No anal. No swapping partners. No incest, siblings, etc. Not all should appear in every story, but your stories come across as “mildly spicy” by Lit standards as a result.

Regardless, you’ve got exceptional writing skills, so I’ll continue to follow. All the best.
I do love it when someone tells me that my "plausibly ridiculous" material is a helluva lot more plausible than I think.

And I love criticisms that come across as compliments to me. I aim for 'mildly spicy by Lit standards', so I'm glad to be told I am hitting the mark perfectly! And as for some of the limits I impose, sometimes they are a matter of taste (my own), but more often, I have characters set limits on themselves because it gives them more agency, and to me, makes them more real.

And finally, I love being told that someone will continue to read all my stuff, even if I am a namby-pamby, vanilla writer...

I posted a new story The Double Life in L/W today and received some wonderful comments. Thank you so much for making my day.

@statestreet
Boris and Natasha? Hoo boy! I guess a certain moose and squirrel duo can't be far away! And Mr. Big, in this case maybe Ms. Big, and Fearless Leader?

All cartoon references aside, a long story but fun to read. I hope there is a follow-up waiting in the wings. *****

@TheKidGoesWest

Thank you so.much for this absolute gift! Yuh absolutely nailed your premise but so much more importantly than that, you injected some life into this place. A real genuine story, in my LW?! Incredible. Please please please come back and gift us with another sometime. Keep up the outstanding work!

@Whackdoodle

5 stars!

A fahtastic take of the lives we live and the lies we tell. It’s about betrayal and redemption. Love and the work that has to happen to make it last.

Well done.

5 stars +. What a great rollercoaster ride! What was the name of that little mountain town where they had their Christmas reunion? Was it Hallmarkia? The bit about the salvaged Christmas Tree angel ornament was a killer piece of schmaltz. Someone sure knows their Rom Com Holiday Special presentations! And after his college graduation will the newly minted agent Rocky enter the lives of Boris and Natasha? Sure hope the three of them take down the evil Fearless Leader!

I love when people leave me comments saying they got off to my stories, or they can see themselves as one of my characters 🤩

A very subtle double-whammy from @NudistJayByrd on A Quiet Woman:
Probably my favorite thing you've written.
Thanks for reading and commenting, and for the implication that you've read my other stories too!

I reread the story last night because of this comment, and you know what? It's one of my favourites too. I say that about a lot of my stories, but this one in particular. I'm very happy with how Ginny turned out, and I think the writing is some of my best in subtle ways.

I have received a lot of harsh comments on my first submission Letting Go (It was in L/W). Now, after a few months, I got this today.

A bit sad, that some cannot see what this story is, a rite of passage back to good mental health, but the theme is rare on Lit. I have no questions on the story, just admiration for the talent (and courage) of the author.
Thank you @Lanmandragon

A heartfelt and discerning comment from @Nynah on 'A Crack in the Glass' - thank you Nynah for this. I wrote back to her in more detail, but the character and mother in question were based loosely on an old girlfriend of mine who was in that difficult situation. And people in this community who offer virtual hugs instead of slapdowns or dick pics are ALWAYS welcome (incidentally Nynah's own stories look like they're well worth the effort to read).

I echo everyone else's sentiments; this is a well-written and culturally mindful journey of self-discovery and introspection with sympathetic, likeable characters.

There was another aspect of the story that jumped out at me; the overly protective and religious parents. I imagine a lot of Helena's ideas of self-worth and her notion of what is considered "attractive" are a result of being raised by a parent who is needlessly smothering and restrictive. I'm glad there was some catharsis at the end with her mother, it was a really nice and hopeful note to end on. And as someone who grew up with a parent like that, if this particular aspect of the story was written from personal experience, I offer my sympathies and a virtual hug (if wanted).

Thank you for writing this, it was a pleasure to read, even if my eyes decided to spring leaks at the end.

Got this comment today from Anonymous on Cat Scratch Fever. Talk about making my day. Just wow. 🥰

You are amazing, I love all of your stories and characters. Would love for you to continue almost all of them, but I love how you make me feel every time I read one of your happy ending love stories. One thing that always does it for me that you could add even more of is how people react to seeing the main character as they blossom. The one thing I felt you teased me with was Michael’s reaction to seeing Mel in makeup for the first time 😢. Still was an amazing read and one of my favorites, I have come back to and reread three times. Thank you and can’t wait to read the next one, please keep them and me coming 😍.

@Nynah read Dungeon of Desire: Level 1 and left this gentle reminder that I really need to write the sequel:
D&D stories are a dime a dozen but this was a fun take on a well-worn genre. I'm intrigued by the implications of magic causing arousal in the user (or at least this particular elf's brand of magic); would make for very interesting interactions between wizards and/or sorcerers as well as anyone who happened to be around them. Theayala's snake and magical tattoos are also quite interesting to me (as well as Theayala herself, she's easily my favorite character so far).

I did also enjoy the reluctant/distrustful allies to lovers interactions between Xunaxa and Arivor, it's one of my favorite tropes in any genre. Funny how grave danger is sometimes the most potent aphrodisiac. Can't help but wonder if her weapon's name is a bit of foreshadowing as well. Looking forward to Level 2, should there be one!
Thanks for reading and commenting!

I've had some really nice comments on 'Mirror Twin', but this one from @bridgetrose takes the cake. Thank you Bridget, this is very kind of you and also extremely helpful for me as a male author trying to write about a female relationship and feeling big-time imposter syndrome! And thank you for your additional private comments too, which help me think about how similar future scenes might flow. I've also had some useful feedback in the comments from people wanting more visualisation of the ballet moves, so this has also been a good learning experience there as well.

"Oh my gosh... I am at a loss for words after reading this. I originally planned to "speed read", because I'm swamped. But once their stage performance began, I was mesmerized. This story is so aesthetic. It made me both cry and smile. And the sex scene was magnificent. So beautifully spelled out. These two girls are clearly soulmates. Wow. Just... what a beautiful piece of art this is. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece."

but I do see an issue with the way that she clearly hands out ratings
How do you know Stacnash is female? They don't have a profile here in the forums, nor do they give any personal details on the story side. You're not the only one that refers to Stacnash as "she," so I assume it was revealed somewhere?

She identified as a female during her short time here in the AH. Obviously, that doesn't mean that she really is one, although from my brief but memorable interaction with her, I would say that she is.

“Perhaps the best love story I have ever read. So beautifully crafted and well written; it was as if I was right there with the characters, living through their evolving emotions. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From I Wanna Mommy Fo’ Chwismus

Best ever? Not by a long shot but the comment did make my day.

Copy that. She reviewed one of my stories, favourably, and we exchanged a few PMs where I quizzed some of her comments - which revealed more about her peccadillos and biases than it did about the story. I came away more perplexed than anything else, as to the purpose of all of the rankings - I got a sense that she thought she was doing us all a great favour. She liked my Ruby character, so that was good enough for me.
