Comments That Make Your Day

In the first post where I wrote about you, I wasn't talking to you at all. You had no presence here whatsoever, nor did I have any notion that you might read it, - the post you wrote in reply was your first post ever (on that account, at least) You were just some random commenter, one of many many out there. I was actually criticizing @MediocreAuthor, for giving importance to some random person who took it upon herself to review and rank us. MediocreAuthor is someone who has repeatedly shown herself as a nice person and someone who has become a cherished member of the community and that is why my post was a critique aimed at her for letting herself be swayed by praise and flattery from a completely random person and show such excitement for this review and ranking "project". It was a somewhat angry post from me, but it was directed to her, not to you as, once again, you had zero presence and importance here.

Why did it irk me so much? Because in the stuff she linked, you came off as incredibly arrogant and later even disdainful, putting yourself obviously above the authors you wanted to review. The way you replied here with much more disdain than I actually showed, the way you argued with NTH, and especially the way you disdainfully commented on Wanda's story and the way you keep mocking people like 8letters in that other thread, told me all I needed to know. And you wanted to review our stories and rank us, all without having any presence or credibility here, without writing a single story or doing anything that would give you at least an ounce of credibility. Now, commenters have colorful attitudes all the time, they write comments with plenty of attitude and disdain just as often as they comment in a polite and constructive way, and that is certainly nothing new. I have never deleted a comment and I usually ignore the ones with attitude, so I WAS only trying to berate MediocreAuthor for putting herself in that position, while you were just some random nickname I have never seen before. She maybe had a reason to be cross with me, even if I criticized her for a good reason, but still, she was the one who could have done it.
(I apologize for pulling you back into this, but I do feel that it's on topic).

You were chiding me? Lol I honestly had no idea.

Well since you bring it up, I will politely disagree with you. This thread is called "Comments that make you day" and Stacnash's comment, absolutely did make my day.

1) It was a glowing review ☺️
2) It was a detailed review😀
3) I knew it came from someone who has no problem leaving a negative review (that means something to me... I, as a rule, don't leave negative comments. So if I hated a story, I am unlikely to tell the creator. That's just me being polite. But I get a special thrill from getting a compliment from a person who I know is willing to be rude. It means that they're being honest). 🥳

Then, when I replied to Stacnash's comment (as I do with every comment) she hit me up with a PM explaining the logic behind her decision to criticize me for the diacritics. That gave me the opportunity to explain my thought process. When I did this, she changed her opinion(!) and apologized(!) Both of those things surprised me, and really made my day.

You seem to think that I was giving a special place to Stacnash, but in reality, I was just excited to get an honest, positive opinion from a person whom had no qualms about criticizing stories.

I wouldn't have cared if it was Stacnash or Plactash or Qvacgash or whoever the fuck.... The comment made my day, and shame on you for criticizing my excitement. ;) (even though I was too dense to even realize you were cross with me).

NOW! I apologize for keeping this thread off topic even longer. And I'll try to steer it back properly. (AS, if you wanna discuss more with me, we can just PM it)

I've got an anonymous troll commenting on some of my more popular stories, letting me know that in his opinion all the women are bitches and every premise is stupid BS.

He's been commenting for about a week now, and I'm hoping he finds another outlet for his bile fairly soon.
He's back...

I've gotten nine comments from him just today, on all my top rated stories. All of them weird and nasty, referring to all my FC as bitches and the MC's as wimps, while telling me I'm a terrible author.

He comments rapid fire, one after the other. So, I'm wondering how much he's even read to be able to form such hostile opinions of my work.

I wondered if anyone else has been hounded by this annoying little troll.

Very personal feedback

I read your conclusion to Like the Devil With a Deal, and absolutely loved what you did with it. Spector's writing is excellent, but edgy. I couldn't get it out of my head for a while, and your closure was everything I needed.
Kudos to you for your literary skills.

I'd hate to block the anonymous comments, because a lot of them are pretty nice.

This idiot has actually gone back and replaced some of his earlier nasty comments that I deleted.

I wish some people would get a life.

In the interest of getting the thread back on track, my Nude Day piece involved poetry. It tickled me when an anon commenter wrote a poem.

"Cum-wrinkled pages of old dirty mags
engraved in memory.
Long out of first passionate years I
let my fingers do the looking.

Came for the poetry
the sex a bonus.
Quinque stellae."

I thought that was pretty nifty. "Came for the poetry / the sex a bonus." I don't think any of the doggerel I wrote in the actual piece has such a good and multi-faceted line. Way to go, Anon!

Just happened to look back at the first comment I ever got on Literotica, back in 2012:

"Thanks a lot for this story!! What you mentioned at the beginning concerning "slow-moving talky introspective stuff" is nothing to excuse for, it's a nice contrast to most stories in which there's not anything "slow-moving talky introspective" to be found AT ALL. Liked your style, too, amusing passages,.... Great!" - anon

I wasn't at all sure whether Literotica was going to be welcoming to my kind of story, and it was great to get that encouragement as my first reader interaction here.

Inspired by this, I just looked at my first-ever comment too:

Liked It

Very descriptive and well written. I see possibilities for another chapter or chapters that include confrontations with the characters' significant others.

I don't remember being particularly chuffed by that, lol. I probably thought it was presumptuous for them to suggest I do a sequel (and I didn't, though the same characters show up in other stories).

Thanks, @trigudis!

I know everybody gets those "please continue this story" comments and usually they're best ignored, but it actually worked out for me on that first one.

The first comment I ever received got deleted.

It was an old man complaining that he would never read anything I wrote, ever... because I mistook "shudder" for "shutter". His comment seemed unnecessarily mean for a first comment, however in his defense, it was in the very first sentence. 😅

But in my defense, how often are you required to write either of those words in normal life? haha (and spell check was no help)

It's just a mystery how many people are willing to give editorial advice in the comments and so few on the Editor's Forum.

From my only foray into EH:

Unforgettable
Very beautifully written in a style not often found today. On this site, my interest in the stories doesn't usually last until the final paragraph, but I couldn't stop reading this. Sensual, poetic, and classic. Unforgettable. (Anon.)

My first comment was a pretty generic "great, write more" but the second I really liked:

Holy crap, that was so good on so many levels. Having done the “ try to conceive” thing you captured the experience of hot sex bring a chore. And the dialog rang so true. You brought these people to life in such an erotic tale. Damn, that was fun to read. Please write more.

I was really proud of that. It sounds like a mean spirited joke to say that I wrote what I knew and what I knew was boring obligatory sex but... I'm really good at writing bad sex! ^___^

How on Earth do you go back and see list of all your comments to find that? I've been wanting to know how to just read my comments for a while now.

As far as I know, there is no way to see a complete list of all comments on your stories. But if you go to your Control Panel, and look at the list of your stories, you'll see, on the top left, an icon that looks like a comic book speech balloon. Click on that and you'll get all the story' comments. If you go to the first story you published, you can find the first comment on it.Screen Shot 2023-08-10 at 7.47.51 AM.png

It always amazes me that with a +10K story with a rating above 4.6 some anal anon finds one misused word or a phrase that may be slightly off and they just feel the need to nail you.

You almost feel like commenting back something like, "Why can't you just enjoy the story and not get so anal?". I never do because I think that after their high-handed comment, they're gone and will never see any response. Besides, it's a waste of my time, and that's what the "Delete" button is for.

A comment that made my day... confusing.

Left on my 750 word short story A Fleeting Glimpse, a semi-autobiographical tale of a young man with an unrequited crush on the girl next door:

Man up!

My manhood is quite intact, but I appreciate the encouragement I suppose.

The funny part is they added it to Favorites. But it looks like they may have 1 Bombed it because the rating dropped.

So I'm honestly not sure what they thought about it lol.

Clearly, he was conflicted. Ahhh, the duality of man!

On the finale of The Light Between The Trees

"Small item that occurred to me at the hair salon yesterday: Raven’s head had been shaved before the fires, but 6 months later has hair to her shoulders. My stylist said that hair generally grows at about 13 mm (0.5 in) a month, and hair needs to be at least 5 cm (2 in) before hair extensions can be installed."

The perils of not consulting subject matter experts when researching the story. But I guess nice that she was discussing my story with her stylist?
