Confederate Flag

It was a war of two competing empires in one nation, the industrial empire and the plantation slavery empire. The south always needed more land because it was damaging soil fertility with poorly adapted European farming. The north needed growing markets. The industrial north won, for a while. Now it's running out of fossil fuels. All empires end.

No. Had that been the basis, economics would have been the weapons of choice instead of facing off across some irrelevant blood soaked farmer's field to commit heinous offenses against their brothers and neighbors.

The one and only issue was that the southern states believed the Federal Government was acting in a tyrannical way similar to England 100 years prior. And, if the Colonies could cut the ties from what they believed to be an oppressive government to form a new country, and get away with it, so could the Confederacy.

They were wrong. They were wrong logistically because the Northern States weren't thousands of miles away across the ocean. They were wrong socially because the people both North and South were against them. And they were wrong politically because the shared and common ideology that the people held was stronger than the beliefs of the administrative class attempting to sunder the nation through force. This resulted in the South not having the capacity and resources to prosecute a successful war in their attempt at succession.

They misjudged the people, the politics, and their supply lines. This is what led to their defeat. It wasn't slavery, or the poor land use technology, or anything else. It was a determination to perpetuate a way of life that DC and the rest of the nation were against.

Strangely enough, the rest of the world is in exactly the same place in regards to the US economic and social engines. Their governments want to perpetuate their way of life despite the people and reality being against it.

What's really funny is, every now and then the deplorables say our push to take down those statues is "what the Nazis did". Not only is that not true, but it's literally illegal in Germany to do anything analogous to those statues!
Austria is like Germany but a bit more conservative and were a bit less impacted by WWII.

Housekeeping reminder: if you make the deplorables' heads explode, YOU are responsible for mopping up.
We can all imagine Rob striding through the public square armed with arguments so incandescent that lesser minds detonate on contact. It is a pleasant fantasy, no doubt. The difficulty is that self-applause has never been accepted as evidence of intellectual triumph. A simple review of my reply leaves no doubt about whose head exploded...as Houston weeps and your ill-placed toadyism burns.

The actual Confederate Flag was less memorable than the battle flag the Ku Klux Klan likes so much.

They were fighting for a new country that was founded on "great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery—subordination to the superior race—is his natural and normal condition." This was what Alexander Stephens claimed the new country was founded on.

No they weren't. Jeebus your lack of knowledge about history is worse than your lack of knowledge about civics.

So if enough people claim a flag is offensive and declare what it 'really' stands for, we should ban it?

Interesting implications.

The original Confederate flag was too similar to the Union flag. It was easily misidentified in battle. A better flag might have evolved with a few more decades. I'm still waiting for a better Union flag. It looks unbalanced and asymmetrical. But it could be worse, as many state flags show.

The last confederate flag waived in the Cival war was a white rag for surrender. That should be known for what they were seditious traitors that surrendered.

Yes Karen, we understand you're feeling oppressed and need to lash out at everyone instead of phoning your mental health counselor for a 2nd appointment this week.

The second one looked like a surrender flag with a more familiar design in a corner.

I personally find this(Battle) flag to be a symbol of treason. It of course is racist and it is revolting to see.Why is it on racist women's swimwear? Given what the Confederacy fought for, it is impossible to defend it morally. Here is a quote by Jefferson Davis-"[Slavery] was established by decree of Almighty God…it is sanctioned in the Bible, in both Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation." I mean, the Texas Declaration of Secession mentions slavery 21 times and mentions taxes zero times, as the war wasn't fought over Tariffs or Taxes or States Rights, but was fought over slavery. To add to insult, that flag was in the Capitol Building on January 6th, 2021.
You left wing lunies, have nothing more than dream up shit?

I have a master's degree in history. I was quoting long dead racists because they said it was about slavery. They didn't whitewash(no pun intended) history back then, they literally just said "Slavery was good because the Bible says so and that the white race was superior."

Yeah, no. He asked you to remember which party the Klan supported in the past three elections, and you simply ignored the question. To quote another Lit deplorable, "Why? WE KNOW WHY!!!!111!!!"

So if enough people claim a flag is offensive and declare what it 'really' stands for, we should ban it?

No one here called for banning it. I, for one, think the racists ought to be allowed to show their true colors so everyone else knows.

I think Abe pardoned them all

Evidently you went to some defunct college for your master degree.

Your college should revoke your degree then because YOU SUCK at it.

Yes. Which, according to modern progressive theory, absolved them all from whatever libelous label anyone today wants to pin on them.

And yet...

The Jefferson Davis quote is real. That flag really was all over the place in the Capitol on January 6. Just what are you saying he got wrong?
