Conquered by the Knight

OOC: Must have told someone to fill in for me... don't remember. Anyway, hey Doc, how you doing?

IC: Elizabeth didn't answer Romulus, he was too loyal to the king to be trusted, and her brother was now a traitor. He had broken a truce, Elizabeth's reputation was in doubt now that she had spent the night with Kalindor, and she KNEW it wasn't lady-like to feel the heat betweenher thighs everytime she looked at the slayer. She stared into the fire and listened to the men banter, wishing that she could be alone with Kalindor again, and wondering if he felt anything for her as well.

Aiden

After helping Lady Elizabeth from her horse, Aiden stood silently at attention, observing the exchange between Romulus and the mercenary known as "The Slayer". He had not heard of this man, but Sir Gelven had spoken briefly of his reputation as the two had assisted Lady Elizabeth from her steed.

Aiden's anger rose steadily at the mercenary's words. How dare he claim that the Dark Knight would conquer this land! That would not happen whilst even a single knight of the King still drew breath. Finally, he could hear no more.

"Do not listen to him Captain, he is not to be trusted!" he blurted. "He is nothing but a sellsword, he has no honor."

Elizabeth gasped at the unnoble outburst. Slandering the mercenary! How dare he! Elizabeth faced the man fully, her face flickering in the firelight, then her eyes softening and she looked at Kalindor.

"It this true?" She asked. Perhaps he was not in the hold of the Dark Knight after all... She smiled softly at Aiden and took his hand, he was comfort in the battle, always. She whispered to him about the girl in the cage, that they should set out to find her.

Aiden

Too late, Aiden realised what he had done, embarassing himself and his fellow knights before this outsider. Romulus glared at him for what seemed like an eternity, before finally dismissing him with an icy look. Aiden saluted his Captain curtly and turned to leave, his young face flushing red, but he was stopped by Lady Elizabeth's hand on his. Her smile helped settle his mind a little, and she led him several paces away.

Glancing briefly back at Romulus and the mercenary, she whispered to Aiden, telling him of the girl taken captive by the Dark Knight's men.

"She must be..." Aiden spoke loudly, but Elizabeth shushed him. He looked apologetically at her and matched her whisper. "She must be rescued," he said. "The Dark Knight's men are barely more than cutthroats and brigands. She cannot be left in the hands of those scum. Tell me where they are keeping her."

Romulus

OOC: Hey, Myst! How's it going?

IC: Despite his irritation with Aiden, Romulus felt pride in him as well. Aiden would grow to be a most formidable knight, assuming he lived that long. In fact, there was something all to familiar in him; Romulus had been much the same at his age.

Elizabeth's words cut through him. True, Romulus was the King's champion, but he took no joy in it. He had long since rejected any loyalty he might have once felt. Romulus fought and bled to keep his people safe, not for the man who sat on the throne.

And yet, he had left them at the King's orders. He had failed his people simply to impress some fattened trade representative. He was sickened by the shame of it.

Kalindor continued grinning at him. Gods, how he would love to wipe that smirk from his face. Romulus had killed men by the hundreds in battle, so many that he had stood on a mountain of their corpses when it was over. That had been justice; this man killed for nothing more than his own gain. And he took pride in it. Slayer, indeed.

Still, he was right about one thing. He knew the Dark Knight and his men. His knowledge would be helpful - provided he wasn't leading them into a trap.

Then, there were the strange looks he kept sharing with the Lady Elizabeth. Romulus had an idea what was happening here, and it wasn't something he really wanted to think about. Despite his feelings about her brother, he had always held the Lady in the highest regard.

Now, he didn't know what to think. It felt like everything he had always valued had been rendered worthless in a single day.

"Come," he muttered. "We must make plans. Whatever my feelings, the Dark Knight must be stopped."

Elizabeth

Lady Elizabeth walked with Aiden, periodically turning back to look at Kalindor when she saw a younger man sneaking in the shadows behind them.

"Show yourself, lad." She demanded. The yound man materialized and pledge his loyalty to her, not to her brother or the king, and this pleased her, but she was still suspicious. It seemed his only loyalties lie within himself, his vengence against the Dark Knight.

"Very well, Jason," she spoke calmly, "you will be my bodygaurd of sorts, if you'll agree. When battle against the Dark Knight rises, you shall have your pick of staying with me, or taking your vengence." She told him, and waited for his answer.

She turned back to Aiden. "I haven't a clue as to where the girl is, they took her and put her in a cage as Kalin-... the mercenary and I rode. I don't think the Dark Knight's army has traveled far, and they should be no more than a few days into the woods. But is it worth the risk?" She asked for Aiden's counsel.

OOC: Welcome rdh996... might you have a name we can call you by in real life? Doc, I'm glad you are well... should've seen the tangle I got myself into last night with Madame Pandora. And Talon... where art thou, love?

Troia Maslov

OOC: Hope you guys don't mind if I join in. =)

ICC:

She stood just beyond their vision, listening to the prattle of their voices as they argued... something about a Dark Knight and evil. Words about a king she owed no allegiance to.

Most days, she wouldn't likely have taken the time to stop and listen to them, even as curious as she was. There were things to be done at the camp and if they weren't completed when Marius expected, she knew she'd be beaten within an inch of her life. Alas, such was the lot that life had given her.

But today, Marius or no Marius, she was captivated by this little group of people. The Lady, a bit worse for the ware from whatever ill had befallen her, and yet still beautiful. A tiny sigh escaped her. There were times she'd dreamed of being a lady, perhaps all little girls did. But that was not a life that was open to her. No, Ladies and Knights, they didn't consort with gypies, much less the slave of one.

A shake of her head cleared that thought away. Thinking about such dreams only brought misery. Instead, she turned her eyes to the young knight who seemed to be speaking out of turn as he disagreed with one of the other men's talk of the Dark Knight. She couldn't help but give a soft laugh at how red his face turned as he realized what he'd done. He had a strange air of naivete and wordliness about him at the same time. Perhaps it was just his trade.

She didn't know why she did it, Marius would surely have her hide if she was much later, but she found herself inching a bit closer to where the man stood to get a better look, at him and the Lady. Her footsteps were silent as she moved through the trees.. silent until an unseen twig snapped beneath her foot...

Hearing a noise Jason looked for its sorce and found it in a slave girl who was just trying to hide behind a tent.
"You there show your self in the name of The Lady Elizibith."((sorry if i misspelled it)) The girl then slowly walked tword jason. "Forgive me sir i was just intreagued by what you are talking about." Jason could see she ment no harm so he put away his sword and askd teh girls name. "Troia" said the girl "What do want of me"
That is up to m'lady here.

Aiden

My hand fell to the dragon-etched hilt of my family sword as I spoke with total confidence.

"No risk is too great if you wish it, milady. My sword and my life are yours."

She smiled at my proud words as I continued. "The Dark Knight's men are too arrogant and overconfident to cover their tracks. Their foolishness should make them easy to trail. But...are you sure that you should accompany us on this mission? There shall be much peril, and I would not forgive myself if you were to come to any harm."

not taking my eyes off the girl i say to The Lady Elizibeth, "I agree with adien m'lady it will be 2 dangerous to let you go why dont you just let Adien and I and some of the guys under my command to go and get this girl you speak of.

Romulus

OOC: Doc, I'm glad you are well... should've seen the tangle I got myself into last night with Madame Pandora.

OOC: A "tangle," huh? Not sure exactly how to take that, but it does sound like something I should have seen! ;)

Okay. Scratch that! NOW I know what you're talking about! Yoiks!

IC: Romulus listened as Kalindor spoke of the Dark Knight and his minions. Although he could never bring myself to fully trust the man, he did respect the skill he had shown in battle. Kalindor relayed the information with military precision, broken only occasionally by one of his maddening smirks. Romulus controlled his urge to shake the mercenary until his head fell off, but only barely.

His attention was focused entirely on Kalindor, working out a plan of attack on the Dark Knight. Although the Lady Elizabeth and her safety were never far from his mind, Romulus trusted that she was in good hands. Aiden was obviously enamored with her, but that was nothing unusual. Every man in the kingdom had been charmed by her beauty at one time or another. Romulus knew the young knight would give his life in her defense, as would they all.

He cast a glance in her direction. She had taken Aiden aside, along with another young man... Jason, Romulus remembered him saying his name was Jason. So young! How had we come to this? Was he the only old man left to defend this land? An old man at 32. Gods.

Romulus turned back to Kalindor. They would be the ones who would have to take the greatest risks if this mission were to succeed. He only hoped that the looks Kalindor had exchanged with Elizabeth weren't part of some cruel game he was playing. For that, there could be no forgiveness.

Mercy

OOC: LOL, ok be gentle this is my first post in the SRP, going to slowly work my way into here hehe.
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Bright blue
Height: 5’10
About 22, fiery temper, out spoken regardless who she is speaking to. Rarely afraid of any man, she can pack a punch. Pretty, maybe even thought beautiful to some, only not to herself, pale skin. Is spoken about by many of the Knights who have never been able to seduce her, mainly because she is fiery.
Mercy is a nurse that travels with her Uncle; they tend to the wounded of the King. They are normally where ever the Knights are.

Mercy glared at the Knight as she tried to sew up the gash on his arm, “If you keep squirming I will not be able to close you up!”

The Knight gritted his teeth, “Be a bit more gentle and I will not squirm as much!”

She raised her hand and popped him in the back of his head, “Hush! Now sit still!” Ignoring the hard stare he gave her she pulled on the horsehair thread she used to sew up the wound.

“Mercy, ye be a beautiful woman, but ye have a temper like a wild cat! Leave the poor man be, I’ll finish him up!” The doctor gave the Knight a kind smile and gestured to Mercy. “My niece is a good nurse when she wants to be, we both are honored to be in the presence of the Holy Knights of our land!”

Mercy rolled her eyes and wiped her bloody hands on her apron, and then she turned her eyes to the Knight. He was young, though she had noticed that many of the King’s Knights were getting younger and younger. She frowned at him when she noticed his eyes trailing along the swell of her bodice. Dipping a washcloth into a bowl of water, she proceeded to clean another wound of the Knight. She could feel his eyes tracing her as she bent to dab at the gash on his left side. His muscles flexed, and he gritted his teeth again, she slightly smiled and pressed harder along the wound making him cry out in pain.

“Oh dear me, I am sorry!” She covered her mouth with her hand, and looked at him with wide eyes, doing all she could do to keep from laughing. That’ll teach him ! She thought to herself. Catching a glance from her Uncle his cheeks were red, he knew what she had done and did not look like he approved of it. She blushed sheepishly and begged forgiveness of the Knight. “I am so sorry can you forgive me M’Lord?” She knelt down to hide the smile playing across her face.

“Be more careful child!” Her Uncle spat, she nodded. “Maybe ye need a break, go out side get some fresh air.”

Mercy nodded and stole one more look at the Knight, he eyed her curiously, smiling she hurried out of the tent. Stretching and breathing in the cool air she pulled her hair out of her bun and let it fall around her shoulders. The dark waves falling to just above her breasts, she ran a hand through it and sighed loudly. The stench of blood filled her nostrils and she grimced, walking swiftly away from the tent she ignored the eyes of the other Knights on her.

“Bugger, seen me everyday for the last 5 years and you would think they had seen enough of me to go without staring!” she muttered to herself. Squinting her eyes she noticed a gathering of people ahead, “Well now, what is this?”

She moved a little closer and her eyes widen, it was Lady Elizabeth and she was alive!"Oh blessed be!” She breathed and hurried over to the group. “Milady!” She kneeled before the woman, her head bowed. “The Gods smile upon us to bring your return!”

Lady Elizabeth smiled kindly at her and motioned for her to stand, then returned to the Knight she was speaking to. Mercy looked him over, he was new, and she had never seen him before. Her bright eyes traced over his bloody armor, he was a bit taller then her, and looked to be well built. Her eyes caught his, and she slightly smiled, then she stepped away and spoke to the King’s head Knight.

“Sir Romulus, my Uncle and I have attended to the recent wounded ones. Is there another service do you ask of us for when we have finished?” She asked rubbing her apron over her blood stained hands.

Troia

How could she have been so stupid? She should never have stayed here to watch these people. The sun was already high into its arc of the sky and Marius would be searching for her soon. Curses, her curiosity and her dreams would be the death of her yet.

She stared at the man in front of her, Jason she'd thought was his name. He'd caught her off guard, so intent had she been on watching the other man, the one they called Aiden, and the Lady. Now she was stuck in quite a predicament.

"What does she have to say about any of this? I don't belong to her." She retorted to his answer that the lady would decide her fate. Despite years of being subjected to others deciding her fate, she still chaffed at the idea that another controlled her freedom. "Go rescue this girl they speak of and let me be. I have to be off home soon or..." She simply let the statement die on her lips as she turned to move away, though the glint of the sun caught on the armor of those around her.

It was such a beautiful sight.. so beautiful and yet in her mind it triggered the most horrid of sights she'd ever seen. Blood and death and fear so real that it practically brought her to her knees near the feet of the Lady and her Knight..

"So sad... so very sad.. all wasted..." She muttered softly to herself as she confronted an overwhelming urge to cry. Covering her face with her hands, she did just that. Weeping bitterly at the sight of destruction she'd seen. It was always this way when such visions came to her. Their despair seemed her own and it even more it seemed too much for her young shoulders to bear...

Jason walked over to troia when she started crying. "No you dont belong to her but your so obvisuly a slave and i cant say i like slavery as a matter of fact i hate it i think its the lowest of lows and since i like you im genna help you you as of now are under my care and free of being a slave and if your master comes looking for you ill get rid of him."

Torn from her tears by Jason's words, the young woman can't help but find herself laughing at his words as she slowly rises to her feet and dries the corner of her eyes.. though now her tears come from mirth instead of sadness, the vision's hold slowly losing it's grasp on her.

"You're teasing me aren't you?" She asks the guard as she shakes her head and brushes a bit of dirt from the colorful material of her skirt. "You may not agree with slavery, but it's legal and it's not as unlikely a thing to occur in this land as you might think. You can't protect me from the man who owns me, no one can. Legally I am his and there is nothing to be done about it for now." And with that, she turned her attention to Romulus, or so she thought she'd heard his name.. "Milord, if I may be so bold as to speak to you..."

And bold she was. Most women of her station would never think to speak to one who seemed so high in station. But she was not most women. Despite the life she'd endured, some bit of spirit remained in her always. She'd found much trouble with that spirit, but still it never died.

Walking towards Romulus, she stood their, looking up at the knight who towered a good foot taller than she. Her azure eyes dropped to his sword only briefly before she once more lifted her eyes and addressed him.

"You'll pardon me, Milord. But if you wish to avoid the devestation you've seen in the last days, you'll wish to head east, towards the mountains. I've a feeling someone there may need your help, and soon." She didn't care to expound on why she gave him this warning or how she knew what she did. She simply laid it in his hands leaving the decision as to whether to believe the ramblings of gypsy rabble or not to him.

Jason

jason was looking at the girl in shock how brazen she is in adressing the knight "m'lord ive been quite shure of your desisions in the past but going east as she says?? it means certian death.and if i may speak frealy i think we must hurry to get that girl that m'lady spoke of she must be going through hell as one of the females in the dark knights quarters he'll have here dead before long we must move fast if we are to help anyone."
Jason turns to troia "Now as you said i was teasing you but is there a way i can purchase you i am willing if your present master is." As soon as the words were spoken he hears a raspy cold voice screaming out the name "TROIA" followed by" WHEN I GET MY ANDS ON YOU I AM GENNA DESTROY WHAT LIFE YOU HAVE LEFT." At hearing that Jason looks at Troia to make the next move...

Romulus

“Sir Romulus, my Uncle and I have attended to the recent wounded ones. Is there another service do you ask of us for when we have finished?” Mercy asked, rubbing her apron over her blood stained hands.

He had been too busy with other matters to notice the young woman and her uncle, but their presence had been to everyone's benefit. There would be more wounded before this was over, that much was certain.

"You have our thanks, milady." She smiled, despite the carnage she had seen. No frail flower, this one. There was steel in her. Steel and fire. For a moment, Romulus allowed himself the luxury of admiring her.

Most women would have blushed or hidden their faces. She did neither. Her eyes fixed on his, and Romulus found to his amazement that his own face was growing hot.

"Rest, milady. We will surely have need of your services tomorrow." She nodded, a smile on her lips as she turned.

Before he could fully gather his wits, Romulus sensed the approach of yet another young woman. How did they all end up in their camp? At the same time?

He had never seen her before, but she seemed to know Jason. The young knight watched, amazed, as she addressed Romulus.

"You'll pardon me, Milord. But if you wish to avoid the devastation you've seen in the last days, you'll wish to head east, towards the mountains. I've a feeling someone there may need your help, and soon."

What was she speaking of? It was not their intent to "avoid devastation," but to avenge it! And who was this person who needed our help?

Jason stepped forward, embarassed by her audacity. Before Romulus could set him at ease, a scream pierced the camp. "Troia! When I get my hands on you I am gonna destroy what life you have left!"

Romulus suddenly felt the all-to-familiar surge of anger. Damn it, this is a military camp! Where are all these people coming from?

His sword was out before he knew it. One way or another, things were going to be set straight around here.

[Edited by doctor_insanus on 03-18-2001 at 01:37 PM]

"Sir Romulus" said I as I drew his own sword and watched most draw theirs as well"The person who shouted is coming out" Jason pointed to a section of the camp that was woods out of it came a band of jypses that were led by one ugly man. Troia as soon as she seen him turned white. I turned to Romeuls and caught his eye "im gessing that our girl here is that guys slave.

Troia

The site of Marius' appearance from the trees had indeed left Troia silent for the moment. Or more precisely, the anger in his eyes as he spotted her. There would certainly be hell to pay tonight. She'd broken far to many of her master's rules today.

"Oh gods... I've done it now..." The girl murmured under breath as she braced herself for what was to come.

"Don't look at me so brazenly, Devil's whore..." Marius muttered to her as he approached the spot where she stood, one large, beefy hand flying out to strike her squarely across the face.

The slap was enough to practically knock her from her feet, but she managed somehow to remain standing, though a hand did rise to cup her now tender cheek.

"You're forgiveness, Milord..." The man turned to bow gracefully in Romulus' direction as he addressed him with his thick accent. "I most humbly beg your forgiveness for the girl's rudeness. It seems I have not quite educated her properly. A thousand pardons for her impudence, Sir. I shall see to it that she never bothers you again, Milord." A flash of an anger in a look sent Troia's way before he stood once more to firmly lock his hand about the girl's arm. "Let us be off, My Dear."

"Sir," The one known as Jason interrupted Marius as he turned to drag the girl from cam. "Perhaps you would allow me to buy this troublesome girl off you. I'd compensate you fairly."

"No, no.." Marius waved a hand in a negative gesture with a false smile. "I could not in good conscience do such a thing. Besides, she is far to valuable to me. Now say your apologies, Troia and let us be off." His grip tightened around the girl's arm.

"My apologies, Milord, for addressing you and interrupting you camp." Came the choked words as she bowed in Romulus' direction, the fire that had once burned behind her blue eyes slowly ebbing away as she saw her own future in far to vivid details. No need for the visions for that, she knew only too well what was to come. And she knew there was no need trying to fight it. Standing once more, her chin lifted high, she looked the knight in the eyes once more with what dignity she had "To the east Milord.. or more deaths will follow.." She said softly before Marius slapped her once more and began to drag her away.

"Enough of your talk, girl.. wait 'til I have you back at camp." Marius snarled at her and once more began his journey towards the forest's edge, Troia in tow.

The way she had looked at him with those bright sapphire eyes had made him uncomfortable, a slight warmth passing over his face. Yet moments later he found himself glancing her way again, watching her as she approached the Captain. He studied her for several seconds, watching her move, before suddenly remembering his duty and quickly turning his attention back to Lady Elizabeth.
