Conservation by Conservatism

People living in dense urban settings already have a smaller carbon footprint than people living out in the middle of nowhere.

The biggest thing you can do to reduce your carbon footprint is stop driving. If you live somewhere where you need to drive daily, hanging your laundry out to dry is pointless.
OTOH, if you need to drive daily (and I do), a small-engined car will get you along the freeway at the same speed as everyone else. So will an electric car, provided you don't need to refuel twice in the same day.

The only people impressed by a truck are the guys at the gun range. Nobody else gives a fuck. Really.

How exactly do people measure a carbon footprint to begin with? Like I only run the AC when its brutally hot and I wear sweaters when it gets cold. I don't turn on the lights unless I need to. While I'm not a vegan by any stretch I'm more likely to eat an apple and watermellon than a steak. And we can calculate that beef is very carbon and methane heavy. By comparison chickens are much lower. I'm not suggesting you give up steak and burgers cus I'm not gonna but something as simple as picking one day where you don't eat meat would likely do more than driving less.

Hate to tell y'all, but conservation is a big deal to the gun-totin' critter killin' crowd, because if you fuck up the critter environment, there won't be no more critters to shoot-n-kill.

One of the most reactionary men I ever knew was also the most hard-core recycler I ever met.

Part of it is Depression-era thinking, and the current crop of "humans" could stand to learn a thing or three about some of those principles.
This. Spot on. No one cares more about managing healthy animal populations than hunters.

Vegans don't have any clue past their cat and chia pet.

Just say NO! is not a viable strategy...

It's hard to see how burning down the ouse would benefit anybody other than an arsonist firefighter.

Someone needs a metaphor buddy...

When your save-the-planet roller skate meets my truck I walk away.

I also limit my driving to the necessary because I am cost-conscious.

Also, when you research it, your virtue-signaling wind-up battery car is more harmful to the environment than the symbolic "gas-guzzler" that you hate so much. Where the hell do you think those rare earth elements come from? and where do they go when you are done with them?

Anecdata! Seriously, Nixon's EPA was the high-water mark for conservative care about the environment.

Since Saint Reagan, the RWCJ has dedicated their party to dismantling the EPA, adopting the mantra "drill babby drill".
Not true. Leftist like you *VIRTUE SIGNAL* that republicans don't care about the environment or global warming, that we want to dismantle the EPA. That would be FALSE. The EPA is a shadow government all to it's own, a conglomerate of establishment critters each trying to outdo each other in an attempt to make our lives miserable. They make regulations that should only made viable by congressional legislative proceedings.

As far as "drill baby drill" the only effective way to convert to green energy is market pressure and technological advances.

that we want to dismantle the EPA
You don't?
That would be FALSE.
OK.

We should probably dismantle it, then.

that we want to dismantle the EPA. That would be FALSE.
Fine, we'll keep it.

You tried.

No, it's not.

Here's a thought: we could drive on dinosaur juice forever if we converted the merchant marine back to sail.

Vegans typically don't eat meat because of the treatment of animals at meat farms.

Every, literally EVERY, bit of consumer goods you buy was moved at some point by truck.

And here you are saying that trucks aren't important...

Locomotives are more efficient both cost wise and energy wise as freight per mile. But since rails don’t go everywhere things also get put on trucks.

Trucks and planes are typically faster door to door so the FedEx and Amazon model usually wins the delivery contracts.

So you agree that your statement about trucks being only a status symbol was about the stupidest thing you've ever said?

Plumbing the depths of stupidity, eh? Get a grip.

I was hanging my clothes on the line, because, I’m as green-conscious as the next guy. Now, am I doing this because I want to save the planet? Not really, it’s because I want to save money, but one of the side effects of this conservative proclivity is that I am consuming less energy and reducing my carbon footprint; no coercion involved, just common sense. One could even say, it’s common-sense conservatism. My money, my energy, my voluntarily reduced consumption. I’m not asking or demanding anyone else to sacrifice.

I am driven by self-interest.
My version of self-conservation makes a tangible difference.

If I were a Leftist, my energy would be directed, with zero carbon reduction (in fact, with all the printing, traveling, protesting, preaching the Gospel pf Gaia and lobbying politicians with cash, an increased carbon footprint, you know, like Greta Thurnberg and Al Gore), in order to be noticed and admired for your principled stance. A Leftist wants to save the planet, I’ll grant you that, no matter what the cost, but the cost must be borne by everybody by force, preferably the figurative gun to your head of involuntary government taxation (especially if they can purchase an indulgence from taxation due to some artificial circumstance, e.g., I’m just a humble student concerned for my future, I selflessly work for others not money, I am of the caring , concerned class, i.e., a self-identified ā€œminorityā€ that is oppressed by the taxation of the rich and powerful who never pay their fair share...,).

They are driven by virtue-signal.
Their vision of conservation just annoys the f*** out of everyone else.
There's flint and steel as well.:D

Its pretty obvious by the part about gun totting folks that the poster was talking a a F 250 not big rig.

Its not virtue signaling when its absolutely true. The Right consistently show just how little they give a shit.

No its not, you're on crack!! The right is just as concerned for a healthy planet as the left, we're just not willing to live in caves to appease these green initiative nutbags. When the left decides to include nuclear in their quest to save the planet then I'll take the nutbags seriously.

Then why every time a vote comes up for anything good for the planet they block it? Bush back in the day blocked California from enacting emissions reduction laws. He had good reason, nobody is going to make a car you can't sell in California but he could have had the entire country do it.

Trump was taking animals off the protected list. I'm sure they exist but you don't have a lot of libs that are climate change deniers. Why aren't we funding Green Energy at the federal level hard? That should be a top priority. I could go on and on but if we look at the actions of the Right they clearly give zero shits.

That's not true.
