Correlations Between the Physical and the Mental

I was going to post something profound, but then Killi derailed me with her talk of Hamilton books, and dammit, I want the new one to come out NOW.

Oh great, I'm wide awake at 3am and looking for something hot to read so I can go back to sleep and I turn to this thread hopefully and get... a woman distracted from her purple prose by the Laurel Hamilton books. :/ Ranks a Rot, RunRox!

Sowwy. Really. No, I am. Damn... Now I want to go re-read Incubus Dreams. Wonder if it'd wake C up if I turned on my light? ;)

Not to derail further from profound conversation, but.... :D

Were you as disappointed as I with the last Meredith Gentry novel?? I never thought I could be disappointed that a book contains nothing but meaningless sex. :( So disappointing. Where was the plot? *cries on your shoulder*

I hope the next one has more character development.

Also... not to scare you, but... *whispers* I heard she's only going to write one or two more Blake novels. :( :( !!!!!!!!

I was.. it didn't go anywhere at all. I thought she was going to cover that ball in the Seelie Court, but no.. it was all crapola that happened in the day before she was supposed to go. That irked me. But I got a lot of drool time in on Doyle and Frost, so I got over it quickly. ;)

 I thought Merry was the limited series.. she's always said she meant to end Merry, but that Anita would probably go on for quite some time.

Say it ain't so!

Sadly hijacked

Hmm... This might be kind of fun.

Richard is a hunk but his attitude pisses me off bigtime so I won't be letting him near my ass.

OK, JC is in charge, due to his seniority. He's not sadistic enough for my tastes but maybe after all these millenea, he can learn a few tricks. ;)

I like the big kittycats a lot, they're kind of deranged-damaged like me, so I'll be one of the pard, I think. I also kind of like Anita's dominant cat lover-pard leader. I agree, being a swan would suck. So would being one of the rat people. If I were a rat changeling I'd gross myself out!

What you said about the recent Meredith book (those are her fairy series, right?) was similar to what I felt about the latest Blake book. I did not like the last one at all, because the first two thirds was all one big boring relationship problem after the other. Very little of the crime-fighting violence and guilt-ridden pervo sex that made the the other books so hot. I think Laural Hamilton needs to bring back Edward. Now he's an interesting character! Just my type of psychopath. ;)

First of all, and I say this to TaintedB AND Sunfox,.... I can't believe I'm helping to hijack my own thread. I should be shot!!

Course, only with non-silver bullets. :D

I think JC would be sadist enough for me. I am not high on the SM end of BDSM, I fall more into the D/s catergory. But I am a little bit of a masochist. I would let him poke his pointy fangs into me while he poked in something larger, that's for sure. :D

I agree, Richard needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe she'll write it into the next novel!

hmmm what is his name... the Pard leader... I would check a book but I'm too lazy to move from my comp... I know it starts with an "M" though. Doesn't it?

Edward is a great character! But on a side-note... I would not let him within 100 miles of my bedroom. If you're looking for sadist, perhaps you've found your man.

Damn, I can't decide if I'd rather be pack or pard... Hey here's an idea.... Why not BOTH!! (well, if Anita can pull it off, maybe I can too.)

Well hun, I just checked her official site long and hard and couldn't find any mention of either series ending... What I heard, I heard from a friend who works at Borders and also reads Hamilton (I used to work at Borders too. Oh gawd that was fun!) There is an Anita novel coming out early 2006 tentatively titled "Danse Macrabe" however.

Let's just hope it ain't so. If it happens, I will splurge on the icecream for the three of us. *sighs*

I can't remember where I read it.. might have been her site if they have the text of interviews. But it was during an interview.. she said Merry had a finite ending. She'll either be Queen or dead. ;) But Anita is meant to be a long running series. Hopefully that will be the case.

I worked at Borders too! *laughs* Been five years or so ago now, but yeah. I used up my house account on books like crazy.

And for the record... I'm a JC fan. Richard is wishy washy and annoys me.. Micah's too... nice for me..

Edward makes me hot, but I love blondes, and I love dangerous men. :D

T, I just remembered his name. :)

Yeah, that's it! Nice name. :) Although he is not as controlling as I prefer, his basic personality (the calm strength) reminds me of a dominant I have extremely fond memories of.

(makes a note of your Borders connection). How useful! Guess who will get my "when is this coming out?" and "is that in print?" questions from now on. ;)

Edward is a blonde? I had forgotten that. I am not partial to hair color, but my stupid imagination refuses to see him blonde. It paints it black.

*laughs* I don't work there anymore, but when I did, I wore out the computers looking up and ordering my favorite books. I kinda miss it.. it was a nice place to work, really.

*nods* Anita refers to him several times as a typical WASP.. blonde hair, blue eyes, the works. Which fits more, in my mind... dark haired/dark eyed people just are not as cold looking as a frigid pair of blue eyes can be. ;) But I love blonds.. probably because I am dark-haired and dark eyed. Contrast is sexah.

C is a blond, with blue-green eyes. ;)

Hello... I haven't experienced much D/s behavior in real life, however even in a vanilla context (sex or not) I find that anytime the back of my neck is put into a strong grip or bitten I immediately enter "submissive" mode (regardless of how I was feeling before hand or where my attentions were before it happened.) It occurs in both sexual and non-sexual situations, the difference just seems to be the extent of my reaction.

For instance, if a boyfriend reaches under my hair in public to rub/massage the back of my neck, I immediately turn into an obliging pussycat. So far none of them have been observant enough to take advantage of the fact (lol, thank god) but it happens nonetheless.

At the opposite side of the spectrum, rough neck bitting in the bedroom turns me practically orgasmic. I believe it is the closest I have come to entering that "subspace" I have seen mentioned in some threads. Absolutely all I can focus on is the pleasure rushing through my body, my eyes close, and at times I have even lost conscious control of my limbs... they just kind of flop around while I whimper in pleasure. (So I've been told... I don't recall anything but the feeling I was experiencing, LOL.)
This is how a mother animal carries her young. Ever picked up a kitten by the back of its neck, or a puppy? They will go completely limp. And, when mother wants to scold the young, she usually bites them on the back of their neck, too.

Now, for the hard question...where you maybe brought up with or spent a lot of time with a family of kittens or puppies, when you were very young?

i've always been that good stud. You can cockblock all you wish. i'm secure in the knowledge you don't stand a snowball's chance in hell with my partner ... http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/363868/2cool2.gif

BOT, i personally enjoy most things about a woman's hair, to include the wild ones that tickle your nose while you spoon. If i feel sadistic, i can always clamp teeth on the one or two stray hairs and "nod my head." That sharp prick of pain in the right person's scalp can send them reeling before they know what hit them.

Feel a little agitated, but don't like your current control level? You know what i mean ... that live wire feeling looking for an outlet. Instead of bending over the coffee table shoving chips and salsa in your mouth, put your partner on her knees between yours (or off to the side if you prefer an uninterrupted view) while you sit comfortably. Simply raking your fingers through your partner's hair can lessen that "agitation" until you regain control. If your partner purrs (like most will), it's like owning a cat with fuck benefits. Something you're watching pisses you off? Clamp your hand in that hair and yank. Save wear and tear on the furniture and the walls. She can grow more hair.

Now, let's go way out in the deep end, as in performing a service as a PYL for your partner. We can start small and add a hairbrush to the scenario. 100 strokes a night for a head of glossy hair as the old adage says does wonders for everyone involved. If you wish to think of the act in a wicked way, think of it as grooming a horse you intend to ride (or have ridden) hard. Add the element of "i've scratched your back, now, i intend to whip it with the same instrument," and you've got mindfuck possibilities galore.

i recently added dyeing hair using henna to my repertoire. i can't describe the satisfaction of a job well done at the end of this 90-120 minute exercise. From the smallest adjustment of the subject's head to do what you wish, to the requirement said partner does exactly what you wish to accomplish the task, for however long you wish; i can't offer many other non-genital experiences to match, save a pedicure/manicure (and i prefer the receiving end of nail pampering).

Now THIS..I can sympathize with...There have been days when the only thing that has saved "innocent" bystanders, is my ability to pet My Pearl...
*grin* I have (in my time) Dyed hair..Washed hair.. and all those fun things..
Pearl has wonderful, thick, black, hair and I could sit and run my fingers through it for hours. Especially since it has such a salutory effect on her. {Though I prefer her to lie beside me on the couch with her head in my lap...I save kneeling for ...other things.

*grin*
A quick favorite...
To step up behind, sliding your hand up her back so that the hair slides between your fingers.
Till the heel of your hand reaches the nape of her neck.
Then, when you make a fist, you do so slowly, so that you pull a tension on the hair that carries with it a feeling of irresistable solidity.
Firmly pull her back into you.
The right arm slides under hers and up.
And as you use the hair in your fist to turn her head slightly. And to tip it to the side. The finger tips of your other hand caress the front of her throat..
This puts that wonderful spot, where the curve of the shoulder meets the neck, in exactly the right spot so that you can take just as much time as you wish..
Let your breath wash warm across her skin.
Perhaps light flicks of you tongue.
Delicately scrape the skin with your teeth.
Then when you decide to finally bite....Your teeth should close on that spot ever so slowly..
Ideally it should impart to her a feeling of inevitability. She should feel completely helpless at that moment.
One of the reasons for the right arm being where it is...Done right ..And you get to suport her during her orgasm.... Just from the hair and the bite.

i forgot the easiest one

It's a simple spoon position for sleeping.
  • Extend your low side arms above your heads.
  • Cup the back of your partner's lower hand with your palm, fingers interlaced or not, your choice.
  • Put your chin at the base of your partner's nape.
  • Wrap your body behind your partner.
  • Follow the contours of your partner's lower leg with yours from behind.
  • Slip your upper leg between your partner's legs to clamp that lower leg with the inside, or back of your upper knee.
  • Wrap your upper arm around, or just beneath your partner's rib cage.
  • Slip your forearm under your partner's bent upper and forearm.
  • Flex your wrist back and clamp your partner's wrist with your upperhand.
  • Keep those hands at throat, or cleavage/chest level depending on your preference.
  • Then adjust until you've molded your partner into the curve of your body.
Your partner gets that "safe and secure" feeling. You get the perfectly molded heated pillow. Serta and the rest of the bed making companies have yet to beat (pun intended) this one.

I just remembered my actual problem with that novel. Hamilton is one of those authors who "develops" her characters. A lot of authors don't do that, they present the character as complex, but "fixed" as as the plot develops around them, explore how that specific personality responds to the events that happen. But Anita has, throughout this series, grown and changed so much, that a lot of the erotic charge I used to get out of her emotional conflicts about and difficulties with sex are gone. Now sex is not a big deal for her, and the power issues which were so hot in the earlier books (JC trying to control her and her resisting that control) are pretty much gone. So we get her trying to learn how to be a good dom to Nathenial, which, while it may be of interest to some people, wasn't exactly what addicted me to those books in the first place. :/

Perhaps the author will invent a new set of sexual-emotional difficulties for Anita which will make her seem more like the sexy conflicted submissive she was in the first few books, but I get the feeling that the territory Anita's going to explore in the future is going to be more of what we saw in the last book: either going into her dominant side through solving her dependents' emotional issues and/or becoming increasingly vanilla and egalatarian with the partners who once had control over her.

How is this a hard question?

Yes, I grew up with litters of kittens all over the place (no dogs, ever.) I think I feel more from it than kittens feel when their mothers bite them, but I can understand the similarities. Maybe I'm just an animal at heart.

Someone, please, start a Hamilton thread so we can stop hijacking mine! ;)

I too miss the more submissive Anita. But I loooove the way Hamilton's characters are dynamic not static. And although I miss her submissive side, I think I like her even more as a Dominant character. I mean, she was obviously meant to develop into one. And I find the Anita books getting hotter as they go by... I disagree that she is getting increasingly vanilla. In fact, she's getting kinkier. ;) The D/s undertones in the series are what initially attracted me, and I was thrilled when she added outright BDSM to it.

Who can forget all those scenes of Raina making her pornos and snuff films. Oh god, that violent, non-consentual stuff pushes all the right buttons for me!

Basically, I think Hamilton is doing a good job adding/subtracting/mixing-up the characters to keep readers drooling for more. I wish I could LIVE in her world. Don't you?

Wow, my writing quality really diminishes when I'm tired... sorry about that, lol.

If the partner enjoys an overwhelming sense of control (and protection,) sounds like a good cuppa tea. If the partner likes a little space when not conscious, the act becomes a strait jacket. What happens following the 10 minute/two hour doze might not fall in the realm of desired possibilities either.

And why the 10 minute/2 hour doze usually falls closer to the 10 minute end of the scale. If i guessed, i'd average it out to about 45 minutes. She's either wiggled just right and turned the MTV dream into a fuck infested kaledioscope, or (like after gorging at a Chinese buffet) my hunger awakens me.

Sigh ... i do so love a 3AM make-the-bed-and-everything-else-squeal fuck. i don't even need to reach completion. That early morning cardio beats the hell out of long ago o'darkthirty PT sessions any day of the week.

The nape of the neck thing works for me, and so does the hair brushing. But in general, I'm really weird about being touched. I don't like it. It bothers me more some times than others; today I'd probably take off the toucher's arm if they tried it. A hugger person would probably die.
