D&D(Give it a read, at least)

Nope, as I said, I think I'm just going to stand by and watch on this one.

Of course I care Khad! Unfortunately, its in my nature!

Eh, maybe I'll play a character with a small role.
Or perhaps Snork'll need a hand with a recurring NPC or something.

I'm about to head out for a character development session for the Star Wars tabletop game I'm in. Never done one of these before, should be interestin. I'll be back late (around 1 am or so probably, east coast time), but I will be back.

And like I said, I'll definitely help you with your character.

okay, SD, if i'm a wizard, im going to need to sacrifice strength and charisma for wits and intelegence, right?

Wisdom doesn't matter, Intelligence does.

Dex is good in that a high score raises your AC. Which is a good thing!

wisdom must be good for something for a wizard though....

okay, high int, high dex, and high uh.... i knew i was thinking of something else. here..... oh well. lol i'll probably have it blantantly explained to me later when my char dies! LOL. unless SD the safety net catches me?

Wisdom doesn't affect your spellcasting at all man.

If you were a cleric, you'd need wisdom, but not as a wizard.

If you have a constitution bonus, you have more hp. Always a good thing too.

Hey Android1966,

There's still time to join up - :)

This actually is Morgoth's game/campaign/thread but I am guest Dm'ing it for him until he is ready to take it on.

A quick synopsis of where everyone is.

All the party members know each other.
You all were working for a Caravan Owner who has come to a frontier town with his goods.
He will be around for a couple of weeks - buying and selling goods to take back on his return journey.
In the mean time you have been discharged from his service until you are required to journey back with him so you own time is you own.

The party has been approached by a leading clergy man who is concerned (along with the council of Elders) about the potential mistreatment, sale and abuse of slaves.

You have been quested with finding out who is responsible for the procurement of these 'Slinkes' and where they are being sold.

If you can provide evidence of the source and the sales you will all be paid 5000gp (shared between you)

You are all staying at a comfortable but sleazy inn, you all have rooms and you all have equipment.

As soon as there are enough players I 'll start the game.

----------------------------

Khadger.

So you want to be a Wizard eh ;)

Prime requiste for a Wizard is Intelligence.
If your intelligence score is 16 or higher your character is entitled to 10% experience bonus on any experience gained (basically you advance quicker)

In addition may I suggest that you concentrate on these other abilities too

Dexterity as this will improve your own base Armor Class - i.e. If you have a high Dexterity, (for an MU the higher the better) you can dodge blows making you harder to hit hence better Base AC.

In addtion Constitution is another good ability worth investing points in as it gives you extra health points or Hit point as you progress each level.

Strength is not important at all for an MU, Magic Users shouldn't really engage in hand to hand combat unless really necessary, they are more like a rear guard :)

Wisdom is worth some consideration, keeping around 12 -14 - Wisdom affect how well you can defend against certain magical spells and attacks, like Hold Person , Charm Suggestion etc.

Charisma is not too important either, most Magic Users don't tend to be sociable animals anyway :) I guess thats because they all divert their Charisma points into intelligence.

okay, i have 100 points, right?
so....

22 Int
22 Dex
22 Con
15 Wis
5 Chais
14 Str

? maybe i could just eliminate Charis entirely, but how does that look?

I don't think so Khadger But Nice Attempt

Another very quick Snork Tutorial- pens ready .... good then I'll begin ;)

Ok,
You have 100 point to allocate over 7 abilities.

(With guidance and tuition from the Supreme Dungeon Master E. Gary Gygax) that enables you to have a 14 score on all abilities

Normally player roll 3 six sided dice to determine the ability scores which means potentially you could have a number between 3 and 18 for each ability

Some DM's say count 1 and 2's as 3's which means your abilities can range from 9 to 18 but that's an aside.

The average dice roll (probabilty wise from 3 six sided dice being rolled) is between 9 AND 12 but there is no guarantee that you will get all high or all low numbers.

The maximum score any character can have is 18 - unless you are a Dwarf in which case you can have a 19 Constitution. (Dwarves are cool, as I think I mentioned somewhere earlier, I had one once with a blue Mohican hair style :) )

I digress.

I would suggest you arrange your scores something like this

STR 10
INT 18
WIS 16
DEX 18
CON 18
CHA 8
COM 12

Now there are other considerations - for limitations see my page
http://www.geocities.com/snorkmaiden_usa/Players/character_race_tables.html

Remember you need to choose the race and sex of your character and they have ability score max and minimums

well i'm apparently either elven, half elven, or human.... so i'll go with either elven or half elven, and i'll take your reccomandations :D i didn't know there were seven, thought there were six, whats com?

Com = Comeliness,

That's your outward appearance and affects how people react when they see you. A comeliness of 12 is about average, which attracts normal reactions. 3 would be uncommonly ugly, hideous to look at whilst 18 would be like Me, well nearly like Me. :)

Elven is Good, but remember you will lose 1 point of Constitution but Gain 1 point of Dexterity making you a speedy prestidigator :) woooo see those fingers whirl :) - You do get a Lvl Limitation of 11 but that is like years and years away so I wouldn't worry about that.

Do you need to know anything about Elves ? - I'll get a list of spells ready for you too. and don't worry I won't make you roll to check to see if you actually learn or know them, (like I do when I am DM'ing in real life :) )

I'll have to see if I can find some of my old college pics of me DM'ing :) I used to wear black leather pants, teeshirts and a black baseball cap with bat wings and eyes stitched onto it.

I commanded GREAT respect ;) <LOL>

addenedum..

I can describe the basic 1st Edition Elves but there are other Elves in 3E (I will not allow PC to play Drow Elves, for one Drow Elves don't fair well outside dungeons, they are totally Bad Ass and not liked by most races including other elves, although I guess Orcs don't mind getting it on with them :)

I may call on my good (new) friend Spectral Dragon to illusidate on the additional races, as necessary if he is willing :)

yeah SD is a good guy.

so i'm your average looking elf then? not the hypnotizingly good loking... i mean no.... *grins* okay, i've got a couple questions, if i have more dex, then i get mroe AC, right? which is more important than say one con point?

oh, and i also didn't get that "speedy prestidigator " comment.

also, this level 11 limit worries me. how high is a high level? i don't want to be stuck down low just because i'm an elf!

Pretty close :)

Paladins must have at least these minimum scores

Strength 12
Intelligence of 9
Wisdom of 13
Constitution of 9
Charisma of 17

Both Strength and Wisdom must be 15 or higher to gain the 10%
XP bonus

I am happy to have a paladin in the party, although it is a tough cookie to role play :)

Its great to have you on board :)

I expect a fantastically Paladinous name BTW :) and none of this Cuthbert of the Cudgel stuff ;)

I guess your just a run off the mill Elf ;) with respect to your looks, thats not a disadvantage actually. You don't stand out in a crowd, which makes you less conspicuous. (Every cloud as they say)

Prestidigitaor is basically fancy talk for a magician or conjuror
and hence the magic term 'Hey Presto' I think (my latin is crap) it means 'Quick of Hands' or 'Quick of Fingers' - sort of like 'slight of hand'

+1 Dex is MUCH better to have over the -1 Con Good Trade for a Magic User. :)

Lvl 11is a good level - you won't acheive that in this thread for a long time yet so you character has plenty of life time ;)

but what level can you get up to?

oh, and thanks for the AP distrobution help. i apprieciate it.

*tugs on Snorks guest DM'n robes and whines*
buttt snorrrrkkkkkkkk, there ISN'T any comeliness in thirddddd editionnnnnnn

lol

okay races:

elves, half elves
half orcs
gnomes
dwarves
humans
halflings

most of the races modify your stats a little. like dwarves have more constitution and less charisma (+2,-2 to be exact).

they also have other little quirks, such as people with elven blood being resistant to enchantment and charm effects and most of those races having low light or infravision.

another side note. Snork, you may be pleased to learn that Prestidigitation has been made into a Cantrip (0th level spell).

Thank you for your input Spectral, it is greatly appreciated.

( I wasn't sure if comeliness was a 3rd Ed ability, it doesn't have a whole lot of use but can be used to modify reactions which I think is sometime quite relevant. For example if a thief fails to pick pockets and turns out to be a real stunner :) that can invoke a different reaction than to say a half-orc with zip comeliness. Also it is useful when combined with charisma for bartering for supplies etc. Also since there was 100 points to allocate I wasn't going to let people have five 18 scores ;)

Snork

If you want to keep it thats cool. Or give them around 70 to work with for 5 stats. Personally, I hate super characters. Sacrifice baby! : )

um.... so 22 pints each thing like i had thougt would be good is actually some kind of superchar? whoops. sorry, didn't know.

i agree, supers are no fun. i'll keep it the way it is i guess. or whatever lol
