It's definitely spelled with an "i", not an "a." Not "definately."

the synonym for "scoundrel" is spelled rogue, not rouge. the first is a form of scoundrel; the latter is a shade of red.

What about affect vs. effect?!?!?!??!?!!

So confusing!

Anyone have a good trick to remember the difference. It's more than a little important in my chosen field.....

"When you affect a situation, you have an effect on it"

"affectation" is something you do. Effect is something that happens as a result.
 
I used to know a trick for remembering the difference between effect and affect, but forgot. Oops. :eek:

In a psychiatric setting, your "affect" is the way you "present" yourself to the clinicians and a "flat" one can get you more meds.
 
Yes, being two words to begin with, it gets the apostrophe. Takes precedence over a possessive.
